We stayed two night at this place. Friendly owner and staff. It is wonderfully located in the old French quarter of town and hence a great place to explore Pondicherry. The room was very spacious and clean. The bathroom could do with an update, but was clean and still better than many others in India. Breakfast included croissants and baguettes! Generally great value.

Room Tip: Several different rooms - even the small ones are nice and very spacious.

The Perfect holiday it was to Pondicherry .
Both of us wanted to get away from the buzz of the city life and get some fresh air and peace of mind .A friend of his was all praises about "Colonial Heritage" ,I being very particular checked up on Trip advisor and saw such great reviews about the place and the photos were honestly so nice that i was tempted to give in .We booked a Le Studio room .I did not think the room would be as good as I had imagined but it over exceeded our expectations,
The room was huge and so pretty and cozy .
There were these idols of gods and goddesses ,beautiful paintings and pretty decors which gave it a homely feeling .
There was a balcony where we enjoyed our breakfasts .
Well its one’s personal wish on where to enjoy theBreakfast as you can have it at the main reception area or your own personal space.

The guest house is huge and there s greenery all around .
Its just perfect if you want some peace and time all for yourselves.
The owner Madam Sabine and the caretaker Sangeetha are very helpful when approached.
Mr .Cherry helped us out with a guide map telling us the spots we should be visiting and what time would be best .They even called up someone who they knew, who rents bikes and got him to bring the bike over to the guest house.
The location of the guest house is also perfect .
Located on Rue Rolland street in the french colony .Close to the Promenade Bayside and all the good restaurants .

Every day after dinner we would ride up to the bayside where BTW vehicles are not allowed after a point i.e in the time frame 6:00pm to 7:30 am.Yeah I know right Lame is what you would be thinking .That was my reaction when I heard about this but once you you pay a visit , You will know that it was a good decision made by the Police .
The restaurants around the guest that I would suggest are:

Le Club
Le Space(For getting drunk ;) )
Le Deluxe
Villa Shanthi
Rendezvous
Le Vietnam (Not sure about this one so much)
Le cafe ( On the Promenade bay side , 24*7 cafe :) )

On your way to auroville , make sure you go to Tantos ,,Its a pizza place ,Pretty good thin pizzas .I sadly ordered Mixed Ravioli and Seafood risotto .It sucked :( .Risotto did not suck ..Was ok..The Calamari, Prawns and biso Fish were well cooked but the Ravioli is a mess .Do not order it .

The desserts are super yummy ..Do not miss the Chocolate Mousse.
We ended up having 2 chocolate mousse ,1 Chocolate cake (Huge),One expresso which is served with a chocolate . :)

On Nehru street ,Do visit Choco la .Hot chocloate and Moksha are what we had.Pretty good :)
We were so hungry after shopping that we ate a restaurant mentioned by cherry at the Guest house. It was really good and cheap. We had south Indian Food and it was super yum.Good service too.

It was a 3 day trip and we loved it and we wanted to stay more. There was nothing more to do but the Guest house was so comfortable and we did not feel like we were staying at a hotel .
It was Diwali time .They invited us to burst crackers with them .Very friendly people who are not in any way intrusive .
I would suggest this place as one among the best to stay at Pondi .
Snoopy Madame Sabines dog is another highlight who comes every evening .A very cute and trained dog.I will definitely pay a visit another time and would suggest you all to stay at this place.

Hope this helps.. :)

Room Tip: Le Studio would be perfect ! For a family La coloniale would be ideal :) Excellent room :D

We went to Pondicherry to take 4 days off from work - sort of an extended weekend break. All we needed was a clean and quite place in a location close to ashram and beach and Coloniale was just perfect!

Great location in the colonial french quarter - very short walks to beach, ashram and the main shopping streets..

Food:
- Breakfast in the guesthouse was simple and adequate. The croissant was good and the coffee excellent.
- Very nice restaurants just a stones throw away.. We tried Madame Shanthes (good), Le Vietnam(good) and Bamboo restaurant (not good), Don Giovanni (good)..

Room: we stayed in Le Jumelle I and it was a very clean spacious room with a high four poster bed, stained glass windows and a bright bathroom with a ceiling fan.. we had our own spacious balcony over looking the tiny garden where we enjoyed our breakfasts and did our reading there..

Service: We weren't really thinking of interacting with other guests or the hosts and so for us the non intrusive service was just perfect!

Improvements: The Ravi Varma copies and other Indian drawings were a good touch. But being Tamilians, the worn out Kolu dolls weren't really a pretty picture. Traditionally broken and damaged dolls are never displayed so it wasn't pleasant at all for us.

We stayed in here during our short trip to pondicherry and it was worth the value. After a lot of research in trip advisor, I finalised this homestay and i was happy about it. Comfortable rooms and friendly staff. Very nice breakfast (continental). Rooms were spacious and clean and absolutely nothing to complain about. The locality is calm and peaceful. Its very near to the promenade beach side and just 20 mins drive to paradise beach. Definitely would recommend this.

If you like old world charms, quaint and quiet, and spotlessly clean yet reasonably priced hotels you will love this. It has been more than half a year since I have been here but I plan a visit almost every year (I have stayed here twice). The only downside is that there is no room service and the breakfast is way too basic and small. But there are some amazing restaurants on Pondy so this will not bother you much. This hotel is magic and the beach is about five minutes away. You will need to book way in advance!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the balcony (1st or 2nd floor room)

The ambience is excellent and the location is perfect, but there is room for improvement when it comes to service.
The main problem that we faced was power cut (one phase was not working they said) and that too in the middle of the night. It was then that we realized that there is no generator backup. We were shifted to another room where there was power supply. The same thing happened the next day at noon and we sweated it out in the room when we desperately wanted to sleep. If they charge Rs 2900/- per day then some investment should be made to install at least an inverter.
The second thing that annoyed me was that when we were all ready to check out they said that they don’t accept card payment. I found this very odd. The customer has to go looking for an ATM at the last minute.
The breakfast was OK but the same items repeated every day makes it monotonous.
Appreciate the antique items kept in the rooms.

Room Tip: First floor rooms are the best

The reviews on Tripadvisor aren´t wrong about this place. Sabine (and Snoopy!) greeted us when we arrived and showed us to the rooms. Sabine has really put her stamp on this place, and spent much time and patience into turning it into something very unique and special. I think we may have been the only non-French staying here, but this was no problem. Rooms very different, spacious, well kept, beautifully clean and nicely decorated with an individual touch and personal service from the proprietrix. She makes you feel like you are a valued guest. My relatives were ill during our stay, and she was very concerned, asking after them, nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was just like you get in France - fresh buttery croissant, crispy baguette, jam, butter, tea and coffee. It was declicous but to be honest I had had enough by the fourth morning, so we ate out at another place for breakfast. The location of the guesthouse is great, in the middle of the French quarter, close to the sea. You really must get to the promenade after sunset, they close off the street for traffic and the whole of Pondy is wandering up and down the seafront. It´s a very special atmosphere. I would definitely stay here again. Chapeau Sabine!
