“A perfect place to experience Pondicherry”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2014

If you want spend some quality time with your family and friends, this is the place to be. The heritage villa is a very private one with only 3 rooms, one lounge with classic furniture and a small Courtyard. We occupied 2 of the rooms (Jasmine and Frangipani), so the villa was almost ours. The property is very well maintained, clean and it is located bang in the heart of French quarters, only few minutes of walk to the promenade. The stuffs were very cordial and helping. Complimentary breakfast was also good (it include Croissants, Pain au chocolat, Omelets, Bread and butter, Fruit juice, cut fruits and Tea/Coffee).
Though they do not serve any lunch /dinner there are many restaurants around.
Also there is no dedicated parking lot for the villa, but cars can be parked on the road in front of the entrance of the villa.
I would certainly recommend this hotel.

After researching the best option to stay in heritage hotels or guest houses (there are plenty in Pondy and tough to select one!) we selected this Guest House. We are 2 couples visiting Pondy over Republic Day weekend and had a great time.

Pros :

• Great Location, just 2 minutes’ walk from the beach. Very easily traceable, as it’s just next to the Main SBI Branch.
• Rooms: Big rooms, bigger bathrooms. If you get Hibiscus by luck, its bathroom is so big and beautiful. Rooms are clean, with lots of wooden furniture, a television and study Table.
• Privacy: This guest House has only 3 rooms. So if you are visiting in a group of 4 to 6 people, you can enjoy at fullest.
• Service: Babulal & Annapurna do a good job keeping the guest happy.

Cons :

• They provide only breakfast. No lunch and dinner. We didn’t have an issue over that but for people who wants to stay here for long duration might find it little bothering going out for meals every time.

In the middle of the heritage town, Villa Christophe is a very good guest house. The rooms are interestingly designed, I stayed in Jasmine (it has a bed on the loft). They served a simple breakfast and the staff was very helpful. Overall a great experience!

Room Tip: If you are a solo traveller, stay in Jasmine!

We got here a little late - around 8PM at night so things had quietened down in the French quarter by then. The housekeeper Babulal was waiting for us and upon escorting us inside, we were charmed by the place! It's not a huge place, but its so well done and of course you get the feeling of peace and space when you stare at the lovely courtyard with its 2 tall trees!
This villa is spat bang in the middle of the French quarter - so its possible to walk all over or rent a cycle for 100 bucks a day (the villa will arrange one if you ask for it at breakfast time, but you will have to give your original ID proof) to roam around. Beach Road is a street away and so is the shopping district on the other side of the canal. One has fantastic eateries all around the Villa. Local taxi drivers may not know this place and often confuse it with Villa Shanti (nearby), but ask them for Surcouf Street (after the canal towards the Beach Road) or State Bank of India on Surcouf Street.
Once the sun goes down, you can try all you like shutting the door and windows, but the mosquitoes manage to get in - so carry a repellent for sure. We stayed at the Hibiscus Room - nice room and bathroom! The Villa only provides breakfast (decent spread - toast, fruits, butter/jam, croissants), not lunch and dinner, so one is happily forced to try local restaurants!
Babulal the caretaker and Annapurna, the manager do a fine job of keeping the resident happy. Annapurna is full of local knowledge and will do her bit to help you book places you want to go to or suggest places to see!
Note: If you are driving down to Pondicherry, you will be parking your car on the road in front of the villa. Mornings are busy and one might not find parking easily, but one will always find space in the evening.

Room Tip: Go for Hibiscus!

When we checked into this hotel, we checked into a 3 room home where each room had a different style and character. We choose the room with the split level. Since only 6 guests stay at a time the villa is very private and quiet.

Its in the main french quarter with access to lots of dining options

Once again at Pondicherry, I am sitting in a run down hotel, thinking of shifting my stay to a better accommodation. I call up a few Villas in White Town but they all say they are running full for the weekend. Finally I get a a ring back from one of the Villa's, I am happy and thank my stars.

The Villa:
Villa Christophe is located in the white town and its hardly half a km to the promenade. The locations is peaceful and the building has a marked impression of the french architecture. Parking is not reserved and you can park in front of the villa. Its not a crowded street.
The interior of the villa has a huge common room with books and chairs. There is a courtyard at the back which is open and you have the kitchenette there.

The Room:
3 rooms are their which are tastefully done. The 'Jasmine' to my observation would be the most demanded room by guests. The rooms are spacious and the structure intimidating. Don't feel frightened closing doors 3 times taller than you with bolts to be latched using two hands :)
The bathrooms are generously spacious and the rain shower was excellent. However the only downside that I can recall of the rooms is that it needs a bit of cleaning. There were cobwebs in some places but considering the fact that the ceilings are 3 times than a normal home, cleaning is a tough affair!

The Food n Service:
Life is simple so was the breakfast. Yet the same old bread, jam and omlette breakfast is quite enchanting when you stare at an open shady courtyard leaving all the hustle n bustle of your city life behind. We sat for an hour at the breakfast table and Martin topped it up with a good brew!

Overall:
Good place to stay, right in Whitetown. Enjoyed every moment and would definitely come back for the Jasmine room :)

Room Tip: If you are a couple choose the Jasmine room. With a kid along the Jasmine can be bit cramped.

The rooms were good and were very well managed by Babu and Martin. Those people never made us feel that we were far off from home. The french style place and the amazing breakfast that Babulal served was great. And when we were unable to get a bike on rent Martin borrowed us his bike to travel around.. The backyard is also good and place is must visit for all those looking to enjoy in the heart of Puducherry.

Room Tip: Enjoy the place and evening walk !!
