“Wow again... the best place to relax and have fun...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

We were there in the 2nd week of June for 4 days and this was our second time here. It was drizzling for 2 days and usual climate. Its a kind of its own. we stayed in wood house 1 for 2 days and wood house 3 for last 2 days. Few things which makes us come back are Eco-life, the suites, service(overall) and Manager Umapathy for his service and kindness. He was always there with plans to keep us busy with fun as we wished. The restaurant and house keeping staff's were to polite and always with a smile which we hardly find now a days in any star hotels. every day we take our cycles and go around the resort. Nice and clean private beach. its a good place for photoheads.. awesome view of fishing at beach, gardens, rooms and many more. please dont miss the curd in hotel. food was good and more of organic stuff. they had some good collection of DVD's too. last before we check out was the the tour to other suites in resort by Umapathy. he took us to tower house, artisian and Chetinadu house, they were mind blowing. Thanks for the Dune and all.
Arasu

Room Tip: Advise for honeymooners please dont miss to stay in tower house, one of its kind in the south India...

We travelled as a couple, 3rd weekend of May 2014. It was a very pleasant stay. We stayed in the silver room. All rooms are unique and quirky.

Good one but if silent, isolated and dimly lit places make you gloomy then rethink.

Pros:
- Big and very nice property (good nature resort)
- Good food
- Close to the main road (500 meters from main road and through badly lit approach road)
- Has a beach
- Good Swimming pool
- Courteous & warm staff
- Cycles to move around the resort is a nice idea
- Nice entertainment options (pottery, meditation, yoga, milking the cow, temple visit)
- They provide mobile phones for intercom. So you can reach the reception, manager or service irrespective of wherever you are in the resort (its a big resort).

Cons:
- Rooms and resort dimly lit
- Cycles provided by resort could have been better
- Price seemed higher to me
- It feels very isolated in the night
- Far from the city (approx 18 kms)
- No Television in the rooms (they proivde personal DVD players as an option)
- few more entertainment options would have been better.

Suggestions for people visiting:
- Carry a torch
- Ask for a room tour as rooms are unique (possible only if they are not occupied)

Room Tip: Silver room is for couples. Garden view room is closest to the restaurant. A/C standard room &...

The first thing you notice as soon as you enter the resort is the friendliness of the manager, Mr. Umapathy. He made us feel welcome and ensured that our stay was comfortable. We happened to check in at around 2:30 PM, having driven down from Bangalore, so we headed straight for lunch.

The first thing you notice as soon as you enter the restaurant are the flies! Hundreds of them, in spite of all the electric insect traps. Put me off my food, since I spent more time swatting them away rather than eating. The menu (a la carte) is also extremely limited to say the least, especially if you are a veggie. Choice of only two side dishes for rotis or only two rice items (Biriyani or Fried Rice). Even these are not what you'd expect from a place like this. The food here was the most disappointing part of the stay, so after that first lunch, we went to other places in the town for better fare. The complimentary buffet breakfast is slightly better in variety, with more items being available. But then again, the flies are in attendance too.

We stayed at The Art Deco House, being a group of seven (two families). The suite is very well maintained with a rustic design. It would have been better if the common living room was also air conditioned. It was very hot when we visited, so we spent most of the time cooped in the large rooms with the AC on full force. If the living room was AC too, we would have had a better time. Since this is a garden resort, with lots of shrubbery around, expect insects and lizards in your room. It wasn't too much of a problem, but it might put some people off.

The private beach that is its major USP is quite a walk away from the rooms, so do not expect that you will get there in minutes. I felt that other beach side resorts in Pondy are much better in this respect. The beach itself is pretty clean, as you would expect, and well maintained. The swimming pool is also good.

The resort provides bicycles for all rooms (we had four for ourselves) but these are tough to ride. Not very well maintained, the kids were complaining a lot, but they didn't get off them just the same!

All in all, I felt other resorts offer better value for money, if you are looking for a family outing. But if you want solitude, no distractions and a place to simply relax without too much activity, then this is a good place to visit. If you are not too particular about food, that is.

Dune Eco is a nice secluded place some distance from the hustle and bustle of Pondicherry to allow you some quiet private time. The USP is the peace you find here, and with it come the associated drawbacks like limited choices in other areas like dining and entertainment. Therefore it's ideal for a very short unwinding vacation.
The rooms are well maintained, but leave some room for improvement, especially the outdoor furniture. The Hotel tries to improve the experience of the guests by having some inclusive activities which can attract you depending on your taste.
It has a small clean beach adjoining where you can go for a dip.

Room Tip: The Flex room is well lit and has better privacy.

This was my first trip to Dune resort and overall it was a good stay. I will echo the problem with lizards as some other reviewers have mentioned; however, it does not completely wash away the great work everyone at Dune puts in. In particular, the manager Umapathy is very knowledgeable and strives very hard to make sure everything is being done to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

We were 6 adults and 3 kids and had taken the pool house and family house. Both the places were very good. I for one do like the rustic homes. I do think that they can add some more lighting in the houses and in general to the overall property as after dark it gets difficult to walk out. They can also keep some torchlight's in the rooms for the guests.

We never had any issue with the room service, be it for food or any other requests and all the people we interacted with were very courteous and professional especially Raja and Nayak (the guy from Orissa). The food at the organic restaurant was good but can be improved a little. On our last day, Uma recommended a wonderful restaurant Villa Shanti and we had a great time there as well. All in all kudos to the Dune team and to Uma and his people. With a little more effort (and lizard fumigation), this can become an excellent resort.

We had a great stay, the rooms are great, comfy, the manager is very obliging, makes the guest feel at home, complimentary breakfast was really good, wide varieties of food. The resort as such is very relaxing , free from WIfi( only in the restuarant the guest can use the internet with their password) no cable TV, which makes family time priority and all the activities like pottery making, yoga, meditation are amazing. we felt very rejuvenitated after 7 days stay. Of course it is worth the money spent. I highly recommend this resort.

We stayed here for 2 nights, the first day we stayed at the bamboo house (Non AC) and the season being peak summer, the non AC rooms can be very hot. On the second day we requested to be moved to an AC room, which luckily for us was available for that day.
All the rooms get bicycles, but quite a few of them were not well maintained. Restaurant offers a good variety of dishes, but are very expensive, given that only breakfast is complimentary.
The entire staff were very courteous and the hospitality was good.
The common areas and the lanes leading to the rooms can be better illuminated as they are pretty dark and the rooms are quite far from the restaurant and reception.
Overall a very good experience.
