They say the best things happen by accident and that is what happened when I stumbled upon this delightful home located far from the noise and clutter that we as city-goers become accustomed to.
Sharanya is a great place to sit back, catch up on some reading, listen to music, walk around discovering Auroville or just spend quality time with family and friends.
We had not been on holiday as a family for very long and so we decided we should go somewhere over the Pongal holidays. Auroville, owing to its proximity to Chennai made for the perfect escape.
Shiv Saran, the warm owner of Sharanya, though in Mumbai, made all the necessary arrangements while the friendly caretaker, Ishwar Singh, went out of his way to make us comfortable -whether that meant cycling down to get eggs for breakfast or making us his delicious tea, whenever we asked.
The rooms are spacious and tastefully done with nice views of the garden. The house itself is beautiful with gorgeous woodwork, the furniture and artefacts only add to the elegance.
Sharanya with its calm and tranquil surrounding, is the ideal place to reconnect with oneself and enjoy the peace and quiet.
For those who enjoy a laid-back holiday, Sharanya is the place to go to. We had a memorable visit and will certainly go back!
The Villa is definitely a treasured find. The property is in the middle of a vast and well kept orchard garden property. The house itself is an architectural masterpiece tying in the traditional with modern concepts. I would highly recommend it to a extended family or a group to stay in, while still maintaining some privacy for those quiet moments. It is 10 minutes to the Aurobindo ashram, but relatively far (20 min drive) from the city. Most definitely a rural traditional getaway with modern facilities.
The caretaker/gardener has great attention to detail. Dinner/ Lunch/Breakfast can be arranged with sufficient notice. The food is simple but delicious. I would not recommend this place for someone looking for the typical resort distraction. It is a great fit for a quiet contemplative group looking to unwind and rediscover each other's company.
++Great value for money for an extended family (3 couples + kids+driver)
++Recommend getting your own transport (they have driver lodging facilities as well!)
++Great host with excellent response and spot on advice
++Beautiful traditional/modern Kerala architecture. Huge rooms!! Biggest I've seen in any resort anywhere!
We traveled as a group of 8 with two children in Dec 2014. Stay was very comfortable with spacious rooms each of which have attached bathrooms and air-conditioners. Helper/Cook is available for breakfast included in the package and together with the watchman, they served with a smile. Convenient transport to and from the city is available. Garden and area around the villa are serene and need to be experienced.
Area is somewhat secluded so have to be careful to finish all aspects of day tours and any shopping before returning. Also, area experiences power cuts from time to time. Stability of wi-fi connection could be improved. Another aspect to note is that beaches are somewhat far by...
Overall, Highly recommended for anyone travelling as a relatively large group and want to be away from the hustle and bustle of urban life!
