We have always enjoyed a visit to MacArthur Glen, and our favourite cafe - Thornton’s. We were so disappointed ( and frankly amazed) to find it closed today. As a previous contributor said - what on earth are you thinking of closing such a well loved, always busy cafe?
Thornton’s cafe is unique in this area. We love the real chocolate sprinkles, the free chocolate with your drink etc. Not everyone wishes to have a full meal during their visit, coffee and cake is perfect. Surely there are other available sites in your centre for a restaurant.
Sadly we will not be making such frequent visits now that Thornton’s cafe has been closed.

Firstly - Many thanks for your review Joan, we do value all customer feedback and we are sorry to hear your disappointment of the closure of the Thornton's café and store.

McArthurGlen have worked very closely with Thornton's over the last 20 years in many of our centres, and have developed a loyal customer base here at East Midlands, one which we are proud of. As an organisation we plan to continue to have an ongoing relationship with Thorntons.

Speaking specifically about East Midlands - customer feedback over recent years has strongly indicated that the centre has not evolved its food and hospitality offer, and there is an immediate need for more casual dining restaurants and as a result less coffee shops / fast food and more healthy options. As you will be aware we already have 4 different coffee shops across the centre, a plethora of fast food kiosks, yet we have one restaurant - Pizza Express. This offer is not sustainable in a small centre such as ours. Customers are frequently requesting more restaurants, particularly as the centres trading hours continually evolve - trading later into the evening on a more regular basis that we did several years ago.

For your info - we do have several coffee shops around the centre and some exciting new brands coming over the next 6 months, and would love to hear your feedback in due course.

Thanks, EMDO

Love east Midlands outlet, it's always so busy but can find so many bargains. We always go to the nike, Adidas shop and next. There is something for everyone here. The food court as a wide range of different places where you can eat and not badly priced and there is a small play area for young children. There is a very big car park with plenty of disabled and parent toddler spaces. The only downfall there is only 2 sets of loos, so someone who suffers with crohns disease like my self who needs to go to the loo regularly it's very hard as you have to keep going back to the middle of the shopping centre to get to the loo. But they are very clean. Staff are very friendly and there is never any litter on the ground that I have seen.

Good afternoon Leanne N, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We always love to hear from our customers after their shopping trip and we’re pleased to hear you had a pleasant time visiting recently. We do have two separate toilet blocks located within the centre that were newly refurbished in 2016 with further toilet facilities inside Starbucks, Costa, Pizza Express and bb’s.

We have an exciting few months ahead of us with new brands being introduced, which will hopefully add to your shopping experience. Thanks, EMDO

Lovely sunny February day. Normally would visit in the week as weekends can be very busy, especially if you don’t arrive reasonably early. Good selection of outlets and with a food hall, along with the usual coffee outlets.

Thank Stephen F

We usually come here just to visit a specific shop but always browse. There are bargains to be had, but also some discounts that aren’t worth the trip, such as the Cadbury’s shop selling 5 packs of Fry’s chocolate creams for £3.19 when you can buy packs of three for £1 in several high street shops. There are a couple of coffee places, which always seem heaving, a (fast) food court and a pizza restaurant if you wish to stop off before, during or after your shopping trip. You can easily waste a few hours here but, if it’s purely a shopping experience you’re after, head for Nottingham or Derby as there’s a lot more there.

Thank Sam R

I am disappointed that Thornton’s Cafe is closing on Sunday and the gift shop next door will be closing in a few months. In their place will be a Wagamama. Seriously MacArthur Glen, what are you thinking?
