This hotel is in the middle of Bunclody and very convenient to Bunclody Golf Club. It is good value for what it offers but it is not luxurious or memorable in any way. Dinner was excellent, breakfast was ok, nothing special. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast room is nicely located on the 4th floor although the service area is quite small and restricted. Bedrooms are quite basic.

Prices where not VAT inclusive only to see them in final bill, photos not accurate and some removed, check in time different and again this was changed, was left sitting in lobby for two hours, staff had the same read of script line for everybody that came in after me,there was a mountain of bags,No Wifi not working, cheap TV That was tiny with 3 channels and speaker was distorted,no iron,NO SMOKING THREATS everywhere,Food,The roast beef was like a slipper you could not cut it,meal times not good enough for family groups, when i went to complain all i got was another scripted reply which was down right ignorant.
Who ever want the photos i have them which i will be forwarding to the carlton group.
I alot with my work and stay in hotels and this has been the worst experience ive ever had.

Room Tip: Dont believe what you see on website all dressed up like a holiday from hell brochure

Stayed at this hotel on a two night stay while touring the Emarld Isle, got a good rate check website for offers they can be quite good and close enough to rosslare for return ferry.

I found the Recption staff to be very friendly and imformative, The bedrooms are a little dated but clean and spacious enought for a two night stay.

The leisure area was ample but needs a bit of a make over this makes it feel a little dirty but it was wear and tear rather than cleaning in my view.

We ate in the restaurant on the first night where they are doing a special meal for two and wine €50 per couple, the food and service whhere not four star standard but five. We tried to book again for the next night but it was full booked untill 9.45 so we dissapointly declined although I understand why it was full. So We ate in the Bar, it was an american style menu, which was a bit bizzar as the only thing ressembling America was the menu, any way, we orded and ate the food was of a good standard and we were happy untill we tried to get dessert and a coffee, the service staff seemed to turn off there was enough of them but seemed to think people only wanted starter and main then forget about you, 40 minutes later we were asked do you want dessert by then we decided against and asked for bill, 20 minutes later we were asked again do we want dessert I explained we wanted the bill, so it arrived 10 minutes later, I felt poor end to a nice evening. I was a little annoyed so I asked at reception if the was a manager available when i was prompltly told the hotel does not operate with managers at night and the General Manager was off for the weekend, strange I thought but left it as I was only going to explain about long delay for dessert and bill but it was not that important.

Breakfast nice selection, fiendly staff

Overall I would recomend this Hotel but feel if there were managers in the evening or the day manager worked at night it would help bring the standard that little bit better which would have made our overall experience perfect

I will recomend though in the future for Staff Food and value

Room Tip: Book the Restaurant on arrival well worth the visit

Excellent hotel, nice clean modern rooms, good furnishings, free WiFi, clean bathrooms and towels provided. Very comfortable bed, didn't want to get up in the morning! We were served breakfast in their bistro/ bar, full cooked Irish breakfast done to order, fresh tea and toast topped up regularly, very friendly staff. Cereals and juices etc were also on offer in a continental style buffet, lovely room to eat in! Reception staff all friendly and helpful, and as we regularly return to our hotels after doors are closed we had no problem getting in, the porter was great, we rang the bell, he greeted us and took our room numbers etc, all round a good showing from this hotel, highly recommended.

Having had 2 recent stays in this hotel while visiting the wonderful golf facility in Bunclody, I hasten to advise fellow golfers to be very aware when booking this hotel that it is not what it might appear, especially when it comes to room allocations
The overall experience suggests that this hotel is overloaded due to the success of the Golf Club, and is struggling to keep pace with the demand.
In short, stay anywhere else you can find a bed !!

We won a spa weekend so headed down to Bunclody. The hotel was easy to find and had loads of accessible parking. The rooms were comfortable, however, they did not have any smoking rooms available and that meant going downstairs to the main doors which was an inconvenience. The hotel has a spa and indoor pool, bar and restaurant onsite which was super convenient. There is a beautiful golf course across the road and pubs and restaurants in town within easy walking distance. The staff were helpful and courteous throughout our stay, and we had no problem getting an early check in.

Room Tip: There was a bit of noise from other guests in the hallway which we heard from our room in the mornin...

Where to start with this 'weekend from hell'

Let's start at the beginning.......

Myself, my 8 month pregnant wife and our two year old toddler decide to book a last minute Easter weekend for our anniversary. We also realise its the last chance we will ever have to spend with our little boy on our own.

I look on the web and find a deal break for 2 nights B&B and 1 evening meal. The hotel rates itself as 4* and looked very good. So I book a DOUBLE ROOM

Friday 6th April

we arrive and are shown to a dirty twin room. My two year old picks up coins from under the bed (obviously not cleaned). I open the wardrobe and there is scribble all over the door, black mould on the window sill, stains on the carpet, dated room

I contact reception whom advise that she will change the bed for a double bed.

The room attendant arrives and proceeds to put a double duvet over the single bed. My eight month pregnant wife rings reception and is told she booked a twin( this conversation escalates to a point where the receptionist tells my wife she will not fall in between the bed as this is how all European hotels work, and advises my wife to lie on one side)

An hour later we are finally told that to have the double bed we booked we would have to move to a room facing a concrete wall without a 'view'.

I point out that because of our toddler and heavily pregnant wife, we will spend more time in the room than usual. I'm told that there is no other option

It's now 4pm and none of us have eaten since breakfast. I enquire about our dinner in the restaurant. I am informed that actually our dinner is not in the restaurant it's in the 'bistro' (Bar). I point out that the advert leads one to believe that dinner is in the restaurant and does not mention the bar

We have dinner in the bistro the decor is shabby with broken furniture and shabby fittings and dirty environment and are told that our wine and beer choices are not available, my son has pasta off the kids menu. Stickers and awards all over the hotel identify food awards. My son chokes on a piece of plastic in his microwave pasta, we complain and wait 20 mins with no reply. Eventually we get up to leave and approach the bar manager whom advises that

All pasta and various dishes are bought ready made in and heated in a microwave and it was an issue for the suppliers, he then tries to proceed to charge us for the pasta, but does not after complaint.

When we return to our room the onlyore semblance to 4* stars are the 4 fuzzy stations on the broken tv. We call reception again and are visited by the receptionist whom informs us that in order for the broken remote control ( with no seal on the bare batteries ) to work we had to stand directly in front of the tv and perform a manual adjustment to the buttons on the tv and remote

With the tv not working we go to sleep earlier than we would at home,

We are woken up at 1am by the elderly couple next door.........they turn there tv for a while and then sit in bed talking, our little boy wakes up with the tv. the walls are so paper thin we can hear them chatting until 3am, they never raised a voice but we could hear them talk, sniff, cough, go to the loo etc

The next morning we 'foolishly' go swimming in the freezing cold pool ( the attendant informs us that the pool temperature is being reheated by 1degree a day and will be back to optimum by Monday. We are given 3 hand towels to dry ourselves, the shower area smelled of urine and the facilities are filthy.

We attend breakfast at 10.25 and que for 20 mins. Eventually we enter the dining room to find more empty tables than full, all empty tables are piled with dirty dishes we find a table and clean it ourselves.

There are no pastries, no milk, no fruit, no coffee, the staff are zombiefied and slow to lay our table it takes 30 mins to get a cup for our coffee and eventually get milk for our cereal

We return to our room to go out we are told that due to the plastic in our sons food we will be accommodated in the main restaurant that evening, the food was lovely and restaurant manager very attentive and we enjoyed a lovely meal

We returned to our room and as we are preparing for bed our toddler playing with his tractor catches his pyjamas on a nail hanging out of the wall at ground level

I take a sower and the water fitting falls off the tap

That night we are awoken by a new couple next door merely occupying there room

Next morning we go swimming and due to no attendant being present we wait to get out to request towels to get dry,my pregnant wife toddler and myself wait 25 mins in the cold pool for the staff member to return with 3 hand towels. He informs me he had to go to the laundry as they
had to wash towels themselves,

Our weekend break to spend with our son was shocking, my pregnant wife is more tired than before we left.

I have never complained or posted a complaint, but I feel seriously perturbed by this trading standard issue we were mislead from start to finish. The final indignity was that i had to labour my concerns with reception on checkout and was eventually given no charge for my stay. This was only agreed to because of other guests being present

No way four star, poor poor poor
