The "College of the Holy Spirit" is the guesthouse of the "Cathedral of the Isles" (of the Scottish Episcopal Church), the smallest cathedral in Great Britain. It is located in Millport on the Isle of Great Cumbrae. The island can be easily accessed by ferry from Largs, then a short connecting bus ride to Millport followed by a short walk up the hill to the cathedral.
The Cathedral and guesthouse were built in Victorian times (early 1850s) - originally as a seminary for the training of priests. The buildings are architecturally highly notable (and listed as category A), but also lack some of the comforts and conveniences of modern buildings. The guesthouse itself has a mixture of rooms, all of which are rather spartan, but with reasonably comfortable beds. Some rooms have recently installed en suite facilities. The single-glazed Victorian windows do make the bedrooms rather cold in winter, although the heating is good. It should be remembered that this is a guesthouse of a working church, not a luxury hotel!
The majority of persons staying here are probably church groups, but B&B accommodation is available. Overall, a very characterful and welcoming place, but do not expect the latest standards of luxury.
