Captains is no where near as bad as some of these reviews. Yes the hotel needs a bit of work but it does have many positives alongside some negatives.

Postives

*The view - wow - especially when you sit down to breakfast.
*The front desk staff - Kostas, Kristos and Andreas are the nicest people i have ever met at a hotel. They couldnt do enough and went above and beyond - they are a real credit to the hotel and felt like friends by the end of the 2 weeks. Also we had a problem with the shower leaking on our first day and they sorted it straight away.
*Its clean
*Good bathroom and shower - something i wasnt expecting in Greece!
*Great location and easy walk into town - yes its a bit of a walk uphill on the way back but its no real hassle, besides it burns some calories!!
*Always car park spaces

Negatives

* Food - it wasnt terrible as some people say but it is more catered to the Eastern Europeans (who were fine btw!) some nights it was good, other nights food was pretty bad. We ate out a fair bit, but there is enough to eat and i have had worse in other all inclusives. I didnt drink the spirits as I stuck to wine (which was good!)
* Balcony - We could hardly see outside from the balcony as there was a huge overgrowth (this was cut down on our last day - typical!)
* You have to pay extra for the Air Con and you will need it in July/Aug/Sept. Which i thought was a bit out of order on top of what you have already paid. On the plus side the units were great and not some rubbish you get in some hotels and the room chilled down straight away.

Overall would i stay here again? Yes, but i wouldnt stay All Inclusive. If you dont want to pay a lot but you are ok to stay in a typical 3 star and dont expect anymore then its fine and i would recommend it!
We had a fabulous holiday on this magnificent island! Thanks again especially to Costas and Kristos - hope to see you soon!!!

As you might know most of the hotels in Greece are not quite as high quality as other parts of the world, so don't be expecting luxury here!

We booked this holiday as we were traveling wit our Teenage kids and one of my Daughters Friends, they had there own room next to us and was pretty much the same standard as ours.
The rooms are pretty much worn out and in need of a refit, the rooms were clean though and had a fridge and sort of wardrobe ! actually that needed replacing but it was clean!!

The location for the Captains was high up the hill pretty much at the top of the the hill just off the main Argassi strip, if you have any Teenagers that want to get served in clubs and bars then this is place, its not as mad a Laganas but its pretty busy.
The food in the hotel was definitely catering for the Eastern Europeans, which was fine but not the normal English Bacon and Sausages that I like!
What I would say though is that the cost of Eating out in the last few years has definitely dropped on the island of Zante, 2 years ago was stayed at the Aqua mania in kalamaki and it was expensive to eat out there. but now you could get a decent fry up for 5 Euros with Tea and enough food to keep you going all day. The Cafe just down the road called 24/7 Cafe had free wifi and you could feed a family of 5 with Milkshakes and a great dinner for about £25-30 Euros.

The beer was good and so were the little snacks at the pool bar open in between the restaurant opening, you could get a toastie and chips, its a better bet than the lunch time buffet in my opinion. The local spirits served wouldn't get you drunk if you drank a bottle of them but I am not that worried about spirits.

I think the hotel is a good base and central location, cheap to taxi to the beaches or Laganas (18-20 Euros for either) we had a great time and enjoyed the local bars and cafes too.
For what we paid it was worth the trip and we had a good laugh.

PS the walk up the hill will burn off the burgers in town :)

I was at Captains week and what was great was the food. But as for the rooms does not match the category ***. Air conditioning was included but did not work. The room was mold in the fridge and the bathroom was awful, again, mold and dirt that anyone clear up what is year long.

After reading mixed reviews on here we decided to go and see for ourselves. we have just got back and i have to say it was brilliant, even though it was the end of season the staff were still working hard to make sure everything was running smoothly. the food was good and always lots of choice, the drinks are local but hey your in a Greek country.. eat Greek, and drink Greek!!! The facilities were good, also the fact that you can eat and drink in any of the 3 hotels ( captain, commodore and admiral) gives you a change of scenery if you want. the views from our hotel were stunning. the hotel is quite during the day but local places quite close. took the local road train to zante good fun and only 5 euro, local beaches aren't brill but there is a free bus to st Nicholas beach every day just up the road, but be warned you are stuck there all day until 5pm till the bus returns!!!! overall a good holiday for 3* and weather was fantastic .

Room Tip: choose a room with a pool view ..

Quite basic, a bit run-down but clean. Food repetitive but OK. Very few staff in evidence which in a way was an advantage if like us you tire of over-attentive, tip seeking staff on all-inclusive packages.

Hired a car for the week. Nothing to do at the hotel during the day and the local beach isn't very nice.

Swimming pool looked murky but the hotel was due to close for the Winter soon after our departure.

It was cheap but there are better places locally for around the same money.

The island is beautiful and the people we met were lovely. Will be going back to Zakynthos but not staying here.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Captains hotel for a week all inclusive in September. Most of the reviews on here don't do it justice. When we arrived it was almost 9pm, and although food finishes at 9 we were still asked if we wanted anything. Most staff were friendly (the man behind the bar in the Commodore was great), although some in the Captains were more abrupt! One of the best qualities about this hotel is their cleanliness, the staff were always cleaning the dining areas and rooms were always clean. The location is fantastic, although located up a steep hill this allowed for brilliant sea views. The best pool is definitely at the commodore, but both complexes are linked so any facilities you want to use at either hotel you can (also including the Admiral, which was busier so we didnt tend to visit much). Some of the things that let the hotel down include the food, which was quite repetitive (although i always found somehting I liked - and the puddings are fantastic!). Another down point was some of the other people at the hotel, most of whom were eastern european and quite rowdy. Rooms were basic, the shower was impossible but for the price we paid, I was very pleased. Overall we had a brilliant holiday, and we were both very sad to leave!

Room Tip: Best rooms are sea view, ours was in the corner on the top floor which was perfect!

I spent a week all inclusive in this hotel this July.It was an "ultra last minute" journey for me. I selected this hotel from among 4 other hotels 2 days before the start -- with the help of TripAdvisor ! It turned out to be a good choice. This is a good hotel with wonderful view to the sea, to the bay.Every rooms overlook to the sea.
The beach is a bit far:it is approximately 500 metres far from the hotel downhill. After swimming we had to go up to the hotel uphill, but it was not that bad.The hotel has got own swimming-pool and a terras for sunbathing. The stuff, especially, the receptionists were very kind and helpful. We arrived almost at 10 p.m.Yet they kept the dinning-room open (which normally closes at 9) in case we would like to eat something. The rooms were clean and cosy.No luxury, but adequate. There are airconditioning in every room, which were useful in the 35°Celsius heat-wave we had.The meals were tasty, varied and delicious.(I've put on some weight !) Every evening we admire the view of the bay from our balcony. There was only one little problem: there was no luggage room to put our luggage in on the last day after checking-out / before going to the airport. We had to leave our luggage in front of the receptionist's desk (this is the local custom). But I have to admit, the public safety is better here than in certain other places I have already been before.
