“Such a great place! I'd recommend a visit...”
Reviewed 2 September 2010

We have just returned from our second holiday at the Royal Son Bou. We went last year in June for 7 nights and booked to go back as soon as the 2010 prices were published! This time we went for 10 nights All Inclusive, and it was just perfect. Our children aged 6 and nearly 4 loved being in the main pool and would have stayed there all day, every day if I let them! It was lovely to have Kikoland on our doorstep and my children used it a few times, mainly at the end of the day when it was quieter. The activities they have on offer and play equipment is truly excellent. This hotel is very popular with other European nationalities, there are not many British there, but I feel that adds to the holiday feel and was good for our children to experience other languages around them. My daughter's favourite part of the day was seeing and joining in with the Mini Disco/Royal Fiesta with Kiko and his mates. Even after 10 nights she didnt tire of it, and as grown ups it is just lovely to see all the kiddies enjoying themselves. I emailed them a week before we went asking for a refurbished apartment and they obliged. I am sure they always try to meet any requests you have. All Inclusive, although a lot of money, was well worth it, it made the holiday even more relaxing and gave the kids greater independence. My son just loved climbing up on the bar stool to request his OJ or ice cream whenever the mood took him. The food cannot be faulted, even the desserts were delicious! The beach is lovely with shallow water for quite a way out, but during our visit the sea was quite rough and not great for swimming with little ones. Great for jumping waves though! The only slight downside to our whole holiday was the beds and pillows are much harder than at home, but I'm pretty sure this is the case wherever you go. We had an excellent holiday at the Royal Son Bou and would recommend it to EVERYONE!!

Superb hotel in a superb location only 20mins from Mahon airport.

Our 2-bedroom apartment had been very recently refurnished and the quality of the fittings and fixtures were top notch. It was extremely clean and comfortable. The maid visited every day replacing any used towels, making the beds etc. The bed linen was replaced every 3 days.

Our apartment overlooked Kikoland, the childrens activity area, where our youngest (6yrs) spent most of her holiday. The Kikoland staff were superb: so many nationalities including Central America and all spoke fluent English, Spanish, French, German, etc.

The two on-site restaurants served very good quality and variety of food to cater for the many nationalities of guests (mainly Spanish with Germans, Belgian, Italian and British). The restaurants catered for children with their own low-level serving areas along with plastic plates, beakers and cutlery.

The two pools (main and kiddies) are of a decent size. Apparently the main pool is the second largest in Menorca. The reserving of sunbeds is not allowed so there is no need to get up at the crack of dawn (or earlier if you're German!) with your towels. There are more than enough beds at both pools for everyone throughout the day.

The beach which is approx 200metres away via a private tunnel is wonderful - lovely sand, clear water and safe. It does get busy at the weekends as many locals visit it.

There are a good number of restaurants nearby that provide good quality food.

The evening entertainment in the hotel finished at approx. 10.30pm and was of good quality. A good quiet night's sleep was guaranteed! In fact we spoke to an english elderly couple and asked why they were there and one of their reasons was because they knew they would get a peaceful night's sleep and not be woken by the 18-30 crowd coming back in at 3am!

If you've got young children this place is perfect, they will not be bored and Mum & Dad will be able to relax.

I spent 5 days with my 2 year old and 9 month old children. I had the best time with them thanks to the facilities, services and staff of Royal Son Bou. The place is magnificent, both the hotel and location (great beach !!).
I can only say that, for first time in my life, I repeat vacation spot next year without any doubt.

First of all I would like to thank Royal Son Bou for their great management team! They have the best genuine unpretentious service I have ever experienced! Their animation team for the kids were super talented and hardworking! They love their jobs and they genuinely shine! Special mention to Nicky and Diana! They have a big open court play area called Kikoland where kids go and play. They also have a court beside it where parents can play volleyball, tennis, football, etc. They also have archery, aerobics, and aqua aerobics every 4pm at the pool! Everynight they have mini disco for the kids at 8pm and shows at 9.30pm for the guests in general. Their shows are better and wonderful!!!

Anyways, it is best to travel there especially when you have children. They will never get bored! Our food is inclusive breakfast and dinner, and for 2 weeks it was never a bore! Their food is so tasty and they have lots of choices! They have chefs on the job who cooks your pasta or fish. La Basilica was our favorite restaurant because of the location and the scenery.

We stayed with our 2 boys, 4 and 6 years old and for 2 weeks, we really had a great time with great people and great food! Did I say great too much! :-)

Very clean resort, just 5 minutes walk to the beach and to the small center with bars, restaurants, shops and supermarkets.
Absolutely friendly staff, especially to the children. The whole resort is focussed to young children, approx. from 1 to 7 years. Ingenious "Kikoland" for the kids.
Food was very good, corresponds to the hotel category. We recommend the "basilica" restaurant (openair and much better holiday-like atmosphere) - and offers very good pasta!
We were very lucky with the room, had an renovated, 1-bedroom-appartement (in Block F) on top floor with beatiful view over the resort and sea including sunset. The renovated rooms are very nice refurbished, with 2 flatsreen-TV's, new bathroom and small kitchenette.

The Royal Son Bou is absolutely recommended for families with young children, in conjunction with the short flight, small airport with short ways and not very long transfer (20 minutes from airport to Son Bou).

We are a family of four, parents in 30s, children aged 6 and 3, living in the East of England. We stayed late May 2010 for 2 weeks, including the half term week, following a strong recommendation from friends.

The hotel was at capacity the whole time but there was plenty of space, no problems getting a deck chair or service.

We have stayed in many 4 star aparthotels in recent years and this was as good as any of them, even better for the children. Amazed it doesn't have 4 stars.

The kids have a great play area (bouncy castle, fort etc), large heated children's pool, cuddly characters that come out every now and again and a really good mini disco. The beach is very close with soft light yellow sand. As the beach is so long, it is open to the wind so not ideal swimming for children (which can be found in smaller bays such as Binibequer).

Rooms, service and entertainment are what you would expect from a 4 star aparthotel.

The only downsides - the minidisco was so popular it was difficult to get a table near the stage to watch your children. Arriving a little early sorted this out. The kid's club is good but not as bomb proof secure as say a UK nursery (grown ups can open the door which makes it easy for children to slip out underneath legs unnoticed) - leaving our kids in a club while on holiday isn't really our thing so this didn't matter.

No tummy upsets. We liked both restaurants (good 4 star standard quality), no tummy upsets.

Son Bou is a nice resort with a few shops, restaurants and a chemist. We were all inclusive so can't comment on the restaurants. We had a hire car and really enjoyed exploring - Menorca is a lovely, peaceful and pretty island. Tip - the ancient village 10 minutes from Son Bou is a hidden gem. 3000 years old and very impressive. Not much fun for the kids though!

We will return.

Just back from our fifth holiday to Menorca, but the first time to the Royal Son Bou, and it was by far one of the best hotels i have stayed in, well above the 3* it has.

The two bedroom apartments are really spacious, nicely furnished, with flat screen TV's in lounge area, and main bedroom, nice ensuite bathroom off the main bedroom, with bath, and shower over, and a brilliant kids bathroom off the corridor, with a low sink just the right height for little people. There are even soap dispensers on the showers filled with shower gel, and a half decent hairdryer.

The hotel overall is of a very good standard, and spotlessly clean in all the areas, the staff are really friendly and nothing is too much trouble for anyone. Reception will answer any questions you have, they all speak great english, as well as german, spanish, and I am sure other languages as well.

There is a mix of nationalities staying, and I would say the english were in the minority, but this didnt bother us in the slightest, everyone got on well, and all the children mixed in at the kids blub which has brilliant facilities and excellent staff.

All Inclusive is well worth it, the food was excellent and a massive choice at every meal time, with two restaurants to choose from as well, you can even have one dinner at one, and go to the other later for something else if you want. The low level kids buffet is a great idea and really encourages the kids to look after themselves a bit and try new things. The drinks included were also very good, from cava, gordon's gin, smirnoff etc to the house spirits, beer, soft drinks and bottled water. Only one disappointment was there was no dark rum. Ice cream for the kids, and sandwiches and cakes served between the main meal times if you wanted (we couldnt manage it though).

In all a great hotel, none of us wanted to leave, my children (10 & 7) loved it, not a place for couples, but it is called a family club, so expect lots of families and lots of children, however at no time did we feel it was crowded.

Go, enjoy, you will love it, we cant wait to go back
