My g/f and I saw the offer from Tompsons for self catering accom for £2 pppn at Son Bou so we took this up, got the week we wanted and the flight was with Monarch so we were ready to go on our first self catering holiday.

The complex was called San Jaime in the resort of Son Bou which if you've ever been to any Spanish resort the bars and restaurants are all the same you've ever seen and are part and parcel of spanish holidays, very acceptable. We took a small amount of food out with us so we could eat when we wanted to when we arrived. We were in zone 4 room 71 bottom floor with just one floor above. The resort was very quiet due to shortly ending season. Nobody above us so it was very quiet some families nearby but generally this was a quiet location and fronted the nature conservation area across the road. Nearby was the supermercado and the bakery and the Restaurant where they had nghtly entertainment which was mainly copycat groups but they were all very good and a mostly enjoyable way to spend your evening with food if you wanted

The room was cleaned every other day with fresh bedding and towels. No complaints there. Everything worked in the apartment and we were very pleased with the space available. ANTS - yes they can be a problem but we made the problem by leaving an empty biscuit wrapping out overnight and come morning they were all over it. Keep food away and they don't bother you.

We really enjoyed this holiday, it was exceptionally cheap £185 in total we paid, can't complain about that. We'd definately go again at that price. The beach is fantastic, long and lovely white sand and exceptionally clear water. It costs 6 euro for a sunbed, but you can get used to lying on the sand.

Sunbeds by the pools in zones 3 & 5 were free but the ones at zone 4 you had to pay for. We tended to go to the beach every day, which was a 10 min walk from zone 3 and a 15 min walk from zone 5.

There were plenty of places to go and eat in and most of the prices were the same in all of them. We went to La Compostella which is really nice inside, the food was fantastic and didn't cost any more than any of the other cafes or restaurants around.

Definitely would go back there and fantastice place for families.

Arrived on the 4th of september not sure what to expect as it was a late booking and read some reviews. I think it is one of the best places i have been on holiday.
We have a 3 yr old little girl and i think the resort has everything you could ask for with young children from pools to fair ground rides . The beach is lovely and so shallow for children to play in.

The apartments are basic but very clean and have everything you need for a self catering holiday.

Also at the Pool bar in the evening they have a kids disco which starts at 8.20 and it gets all the kids on the stage having a wonderful time.

I cant wait to go back next year !!!!

We stayed at this hotel in may 2007 and loved it. Your guarenteed a great holiday mainly for famlies. the weather was fantastic. When we arrived we were greated by a lovely spanish women who quickly got us to our room and was very helpful with showing us the way.

The rooms are lovely and clean. we stayed in zone 4 with the mushroom in the pool. the rooms are basic but have every thing you need to cook and clean if you needed although they do a wonderful job every when they cleaned every 2 days and replaced all the towels. the rooms are comfortable and have a fan in the rooms if u get too hot.

the pools are clean and although we never used the pool in our zone we did use the one in zone 3 which was nice and very well presented.

For entertainment the complex would offer us entertainment till 11pm we never really went but was given good reports on it being really enjoyable. The best entertainment was in the town which was about 15 min slow walk from us. there they have the most amazing bar called copacabanna which the staff is very helpful and would turn the world to help you. on the evening the waiters go round on roller blades and are a great laugh. they have nightly live entertainment which is mainly tribute bands but is still a great night out, and dont worry about the kids they are also kept entertained here as well with a great selection of kids fruit cocktails and drinks for keeping busy have a kids only band where they invite them on stage in groups to sing.

in the town you have alot of food stores and supermarkets for groceries. there is a wide selection of eateries and resturants. for value i would advise the resturant just up from the fragrance shop, the staff are very well mannered and keen to help.

the beach is gorgeous. the coconut sand and crystal clear ocean is just the start, its a wonderful place to relax where its not too loud to just sit back relax on the loungers (they do charge 12 euros, but well worth it) and listen to the sea crashing on the sand. it is very clean and well kept with wonderful selection of bars and snack bars on the beach just help make that relaxing moment extra special. My 3 year old Daughter love it and never wanted to leave.

They do have a waterslide inbetween zone 3 and 4 but is seperate from the complex and charges 12 euros for a wrist band which you can then use it throughout your stay. the slide is owned by a british couple and does vary on opening through out the year.

overall the holiday, location, and the apartments i give 10 out of 10 and am ready to go back.

Have just got back from a week in Menorca, staying at the San Jaime apts. The apartment was above the standard we expected considering the price we paid. We stayed in Zone 4 which was only a 20 minute walk to the resort centre, and that was with a 20 month old walking all the way. Towel changed 4 times in a week and apartment cleaned twice. The beach is fantastic for a little one. Would recommend this resort and accomodation to any-one with young children.

We stayed in Zone 5 with our 3 children (all under 5). The walk to the beach, which took anything between 20 and 25 minutes, soon got too much for our 3 year old twins. Zone 5 is certainly quieter than zone 3 but I would recommend that you request zone 3 if your children are under 7 years old. Zone 3 had a stage and offered more evening entertainment than zone 5 which had a mini disco that only lasted about 20 minutes (but the kids loved it). Kristina who organised the entertainment was wonderful and the children just adored her. Beware of the British abroad who queued from 8.30 for the sunbeds to be unlocked at 9.30 just so they could put their towels out and disappear again until lunchtime. There were only around 25 sunbeds available around the zone 5 pool to cover approx 300 guests hence why some people queued!!! Zone 3 had many more sunbeds available. Apartments were very clean although quite basic and towels were changed every other day and linen twice per week. If you are looking for budget accommodation then I don't think you'll get much better than this, but beware, eating and drinking in Son Bou is quite expensive so take plenty of cash.
