“In bad shape”

Ranjit Vilas Palace
Reviewed 18 February 2014

About 30 miles from Rajkot is the small town of Wankaner. On the hill overlooking the town the local royal family built a palace completed in the 1940s. It's in bad shape. The central clock tower is crumbling. Panes of glass are broken in the clock. Scaffolding has been erected but I didn't see anyone working. Pigeons have roosted and their droppings surround the palace. The watchman was possibly wearing the filthiest clothes I've seen. This place is seriously run down. Until the place gets fixed up I don't know if it's worth the excursion from Rajkot. The town offers little else of interest to a tourist.
