My family and I often visit Vori as my husbands parents live there.
We always make time to eat at Alekos as the food is quite simply outstanding.
The food is served on tables covered with crisp white cloths,in a beautiful flower and fruit filled courtyard which looks magical in candlelight.
The menu is packed with traditional Cretan cuisine including a range of seafood ( the Kalamari is divine!) we had fillet steak on our last visit and it was cooked to perfection. Add to this a bottle or two of delicious red wine and you like us could have the perfect evening...
Aleko and his wife are always very welcoming and it is always a pleasure to see them.

We turned off the main road on our way to Phaistos, following the sign for the taverna, and easily found this splendid place. A warm welcome from the owners, excellent homemade and often homegrown food, in a lovely garden with flowers and fruiting trees. We are recommending it to all our friends and family.

You will always receive a warm welcome from Alekos and his wife Sabina. A friend introduced us to this hidden secret in Vori. Excellent Cretan food was served to our table covered with bright white damask tablecloth. The "Special of the Day" were "Fresh Manitaria" (Mushrooms) baked in the pan with fresh parsley and garlic. Absolutely stunning ! Also the "Tsatziki" and the "Patates Tiganites" (French Fries) we can really recommend, just amazing. They also offer other Greek and Cretan main courses on the menu, like Biftekia (Meat Balls filled with Feta Cheese) Brisola (Entrecôte) and last but not least the fabulous Chicken Sate. There is also a winelist with a nice variety of Cretan and Greek wines. This charming place should get more attention, because it is not so easy to find. It is located in the village of Vori, near the Ethnological Musem (worth to visit!) and behind a little church. Look for signs "Alekos Taverna". You enter the taverna through a garden full of herbs, grenadine and lemon trees. We'll go back for sure!
