The hotel has outdated decor some charming but mostly dingy and dirty. The room we stayed in had slanted floors, it feels like the hotel is falling in on itself. We upgraded to a more expensive room and that bathroom had a bad musty smell. You will aslo be charged for every little thing, even the coffee you are offered when getting to the hotel. We were not told we would be charged for breakfast because we upgraded at a discount. I would not recommend this hotel.

Hey before I get into this review about les Apotres let me just say I loved this random place. Sure it aint the Ritz and yes it is stuck in a 60s time warp. But for charm, value for money and pure good old fashioned fun you won't get better. We stopped off en route down to CH and had little or no expectation. But when the Manager saw us, realised we had driven a fair few kms he took us straight to the bar for two cool beers. Good start...He then helped us up to our room climbing the stairs like a mountain goat despite being well in to his 60s. Our chambre (liking the O level French there?) was typically French. Wall paper depicting a Spring scene complete with daffodills, a balcony with three flags that was vastly improved when I added a Union Jack to the French, EU and Italian ones. And a strange ensuite bathroom complete with dripping tap. It was all there...Dinner was fine. Good choice. Locals loved it and people regularly turned away as they were full even on a Sunday night. We stuck boringly to pizza. La Maison pizzas though got thumbs up. Locals very friendly and thanks to Jean a truck driver who shared his Bordeaux with two Roast Beefs... Retired and kept the windows open at the front of the hotel. Nice breeze but noisy. Liked the refuse truck outside ar 0530 but that is life. No aircon so windows open equals noise....But that is part of the charm which was more than made up by the fact that the breakfast waiter made us two cracking cups of coffee at 0615 despite looking as if he'd had two hours kip. Overall loved it and if you want a stop off check this place out as it deserves a medal for being what it is - charming. GO TEAM GB.

Note: this a a rating of the restaurant, not of the hotel.

The restaurant offers a selection of very nice, tasteful menus at a reasonable price, including a good cheese offering and a very wide range of desert options. Seating is a the front with a good view over the central square of Contrexeville. The only negative remark is about the service: all tables were served by all staff and they didn't keep proper track of the phase of each table, resulting in duplicate or forgotten services.
