“Quiet comfort on the Rhine”
Reviewed 20 March 2013 via mobile

This is a hotel and dining room that you should not miss. Located 5 kilometers from central Schaffhausen it's access is easy by car or taxi. Our dining guest even walked back to her apartmentbin central Schaffhausen! One really feels one is in a traditional Swiss German inn. The dinner is relatively costly but everything evens out with the sumptuous breakfast included in the reasonable price of the room. The staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

This hotel has a classic german-swiss design. Looks great from outside, just next to the Rhein.
The feeling is really good there. The hotel is clean, the room has a nice classic design and big bathroom.
The breakfast selection is too wide, but the food quality compensate it. You must try the cheese. Really good.
The place is quiet, I felt harmony there.
The staff is really kind there.

i have stayed in this hotel several time for business meetings. Rooms are with high standards and their restaurant is suberb. Food quality is the best I have met in Schaffhausen area. Hotel is located about 5km away from Schaffhausen city next to the Rhein river. Beautiful scenery surroundings. Price per night is quite high, but good quality. Free parking outside.

Wonderful location, dedicated staff, delicious food (go for the water cress & Crab soup - we did twice!), dreadful duvets (some artificial foam). We enjoyed it but cut our stay short since a wedding party planned to stop at midnight went on "unexpectedly" to 3.06 am followed by the kitchen staff cleaning up and neighbouring guests continuing the party until well past 4 in the morning. The owner was surprised the party went on so late as a different stop time had been agreed and he kindly cancelled our bill for that night.

In summer it's a pleasure to sit on the bank of the Rhein and watch the traffic while slowly eating delicious food.

Room Tip: Go for a river side room for the utmost quiet.

This is really a charming hotel -- an old mill on the Rhine, transformed into an intimate hotel with original details and a lot of character. It's a great combination of traditional details with modern amenities and conveniences. The service at the hotel is outstanding -- the staff really pay attention to the details and seem to genuinely enjoy what they do.

As we were at the hotel for a training seminar, we had all our meals at the restaurant, and the food was outstanding! I would recommend going to the restaurant even if you're not staying at the hotel. Breakfast doesn't have a big selection, but the quality of everything is the best. Cheeses, cold cuts, breads, even the wild honey -- everything was fantastic. Lunch and dinner were great as well, with very high quality trout, beef, veal, rabbit, prawns etc. Everything seemed super fresh and was deliciously prepared.

The only reason I don't give the hotel the top rating is the mattress felt very old -- not too soft, but as if it was used to the point of losing it's ability to support. Also there are minor issues, such as the towels being rough and the toiletries being of low quality. I would still absolutely recommend going to the Alte Rheinmuhle though, and am looking forward to going back!

A real nice transformation of an old mill into a romantic first class hote with all modern comfort.
All rooms are different with a touch of history. Nice, well equiped bathrooms.
Very clean. Excellent and friendly staff, speaking several languages.
Exquisite restaurant with view over the Rhine. Fine food and wines, perfect service.

Room Tip: try on of the suites...

I have been there twice on business and i found the staff at reception very helpful and courteouos always willing to help as well as the room spacious and comfortable. There is WIfi available in lobby, restaurant as well as in rooms.
The location is unbelievable literarly on the Rhein river which offers a prime location for evening dinner or morning breakfast. Overall I found the hotel very quiet and relaxing. I beleive it is a good alternative to other major chains if you are in the area. It is about 4 miles away so a 10 minute drive from Schaffausen main industrial estate.
Note that sometimes GPS do not recognize the Swiss post code they give you so you have to enter their German postcode that they will give you if you call. It seems that the town is half on Germany and half in Switzerland!
Also the food for Dinner and breakfast is very good and the atmosphere relaxed and very cosi, even if you are dinning by yourself.
Overall a great hotel whether you go on holidya or business in the area. Pricewise it is comparable to any other Swiss hotel for the same category but offers a personalized service and you truly feel welcome.
