“Nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2013

Only stayed here one night so can't really give it 5*. Room no.4 was spacious, clean & quiet. Nice breakfast, friendly staff and beautiful property with a swimming pool and nice patio areas with cute stream out the back. Would def stay again.

Stayed here for two nights. Had a front room overlooking road, room lovely, separate shower/bath, plenty of tea/coffee/milk and hot chocolate. (don't you just hate it when they only give you 4 milks and expect payment for any more?) Breakfast good although only served between 08.30-09.30. only 6 channels on tv. Only downside was not feeling comfortable opening window at night as it was not restricted opening. Would defiantly go again but would request an upstairs or back room.

Room Tip: off of front road.

We spent a weekend in the Poachers, the staff were very friendly, our room was lovely and overlooked the pool with its own balcony so we could keep an eye on our son in the pool whilst relaxing. The food was not fantastic but good value and the breakfast was very nice. We will definitely be returning.

This is my first ever review - my wife and I are not ones to complain. However on this occasion I feel we must comment on the meal we experienced at the Poachers Inn last evening. We both started with the Flat Cap Mushroom which was OK, apart from too much balsamic vinegar. We chose our main meal from the "specials" - Mediterranean Chicken/Salad with Herb and Potato Mash. Very little chicken pieces, raw beetroot (so hard mine jumped off the plate when I tried to cut it), no potato mash but a couple of halved baby new potatoes (sauteed). When we mentioned the lack of mash the young waiter said sorry and offered to get some mash but as we were half way through the meal we didn't bother. He said he would mention the problem to the kitchen. There was no other form of apology but we did notice the menu board had been changed when we were leaving. We paid £10.95p each for the main meal which seems extreme for what was a plate of green leaved salad. Also dowsed in too much balsamic vinegar.

This trip was a trial run for a proposed meal with friends later in July as a special birthday celebration - we have found somewhere different!!!

Located on the B3143 just north of Dorchester, the village of Piddletrenthide is tiny and quiet but conveniently located for exploring Dorchester and the surrounding area. As noted by another reviewer, although it advertises a "riverside" garden, it's more of a stream. However, the garden is a pleasant enough place to spend some time and there is a (heated) swimming pool available if you're feeling brave.

The room itself was spacious and clean, with loads of storage space. The bed was huge, comfortable and slightly on the soft side. The en-suite shower was hot and powerful, and the room had all the usual amenities (hair drier, tea/coffee making kit, TV with some Sky channels). There is no wifi to the rooms.

The cooked breakfast was good - a choice of full english, eggs on toast or kippers. I didn't try the kippers, but the full english was very nice with good quality sausages and bacon. There was also a choice of cereals, fruit, juices etc. However, there is only a one hour slot (08:30-09:30) and it can get busy. Half board is also available, and the restaurant is not bad (see separate review).

Service was warm and welcoming, and very helpful. Pets are welcome here. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this B&B.

Room Tip: There is parking available at the rear of the pub, as well as over the road at the front.

We stayed here for four nights - executive room (21) was large and very comfortable, en-suite was also a good size with bath & separate shower. The staff were friendly too! The weather wasn't warm enough to uncover pool but it looked a lovely area etc with tables/chairs dotted around the terrace areas. There was an interesting walk to the back of hotel, an old Saxon road which led up to the delightful Church the whole location is steeped in history. Also, (twice) we travelled down to West Bay,Bridport to meet some friends and toured jurassic coast up to Lyme Regis. We ate an evening meal on two nights, delicious food - curry was very good made by chef from a family recipe!

We stayed here two years ago, again for a visit to the 'Badger-Watch' a couple of miles up the road. Again we weren't disappointed. A warm welcome, an early dinner was arranged for us to be able to get to the Badgers on time. very nice meal, comfortable and clean room. Good beer.
