This Inn was recommended by a friend.

Welcome reception, bar service, drinks and prices good.

Dinner good, service good.

Breakfast OK, coffee poor.

We stayed in room 3.

Room very poor, 1 light not working, wardrobe door hing broken and hanging off, bed side radio alarm dirty, noiose from adjoining room.

Bathroom outside wall very damp, as was floor around toilet and shower.

I discussed the situation with the chap in charge and showed him the relevant issues.

I left a completed comments sheet with the guy in charge when we checked out and again discussed the issues with him.

This was 4 weeks ago and we have had no response from the Inn.

Very poor.

Room Tip: Not room 3.

stayed for 4 nights in late October, Food choice is very good with a specials board for extra choice - smoked trout and liver dishes superb! Room was large and roomy with a large bathroom too. Staff were all attentive and helpful. Great to be in the country, but only a short drive to Dorchester & Weymouth if you want shops, or Lyme Regis & West Bay as a start to your coastal exploration. Would stay here again.

We had a meal on the Sunday night and it was nice pub grub but we sat near the bar and the locals were so rowdy we couldn't hear each other talk!! Had to eventually be asked to move!! I understand locals are a big part of trade but it's best to not let them run the pub!!! Not once were they asked to keep the noise down whilst shouting and swearing!!

My husband, myself and 6yr old daughter stayed at The Poachers Inn for just one night at the beginning of November. We had an Executive family room which was very large and perfect for the 3 of us. We loved the fact it was in the middle of nowhere and was oh so quiet and peaceful.

We just had B&B, though ate in the lovely restaurant in the evening, which in hindsight probably worked out more expensive, we should have taken the Dinner, B&B offer. Staff were very pleasant and the food lovely. We would probably stay here again, and would love to come back in the Summer months when the outdoor pool is open!

Room Tip: Room 12 was perfect for a family of 3!

My husband and I have been visiting the Poachers Inn for the last 5 years taking advantage of the Dinner, Bed and Breakfast offer. The reason why we keep returning is simple - we are never disappointed. The staff are friendly and courteous and are customer service personified. We ask for the same room each time we visit, which is accommodated and it is tastefully decorated and maintained. The highlight for us is the food. The menu is varied with 'Specials' available each day too. The food is cooked to order and is sourced from local producers which is excellent news for the nearby economy.
The Inn is located in a small village which is easily accessible by car. We use it as a base for our trips the nearby National Trust properties. Monkey World, Bovington Tank Museum, Swanage Steam Railway and the coast. If you prefer not to use your car then there are several walks that start from the doorstep and allow you to experience the lovely local scenery. You can then return to the Inn for a well deserved drink and a chat with the locals
We have already reserved our room for next year.

All in all this was a good experience- lovely food, both dinner and breakfast, in a lovely old inn. The room was very comfortable- oak panelled, lovely comfortable bed, Jacuzzi in the bathroom , its own enclosed balcony overlooking the swimming pool. It was of course not in use in October but this would be a fun place to stay in summer. The welcome was a bit off- we arrived early having travelled by train from London and taxi from Dorchester, to be told 'you are early!' in a curt tone. Otherwise cannot fault the staff who helped us book a local taxi to and from the Badger Watching at Old Henley Farm in Buckland Newton. They also let us stay on later than the 11am check out time. This inn is only convenient for the badger watching- which was amazing- if you are with car. I would probably not stay here again as it was a special treat and outside my normal budget for a B&B, and also there was a lot of noise from the room above, which would be hard to avoid in an old building like this, but was disturbing nonetheless.

Took a while to find it and far larger hotel than you think. In the summer it must be packed as has a large swimming pool which even in September had local families using, Rooms basically comfortable, lovely bathrooms with ample room. We had a family gathering there and it suited all age groups and the restaurant meals were good. No cell phone coverage which made communications with family members a touch tricky but wifi was available. Would recommend.

Room Tip: if you want peace and quiet ask for a room away from the pool
