We stayed here one night to break our drive. The appearance of the hotel building is uninspiring. However, everything else about it is good, from the welcoming staff to the free wi-fi in rooms to the exceptional restaurant. It was a pleasant surprise to find such a high quality restaurant here in the middle of nowhere!

Despite the interior design of the rooms not quite hitting the mark, the room was none the less clean and light. The showers smelt of sulphur, as is the case in many places in Iceland. The rooms were spacious, the food was tasty and there were good views from the hotel.

We really liked this hotel. The setting was not as scenic as some we stayed in and we only stayed one night but fely very relaxed there . Service was friendly but not fussy and the evening meal was the best we had in Iceland. Breakfast was fantastic too. Rooms were stylish and clean. Only complaint was in common with most other hotels in Iceland - the curtains didn't keep the light out at night.

The food in the hotel's restaurant is supposed to be good. We cannot tell as my wife and I arrived at 7:30pm and - before checking in - we first went went for a hamburger in the adjacent cafeteria annex supermarket annex petrol station as the hotel's website said advance reservations were needed from September to May. After we had finished that burger and checked in at the hotel, we saw there wasn't any problem to have dinner without advance reservations. The next morning, we even felt greater regret when we saw the huge breakfast buffet. Regarding the room we had: everything turned out to be fine. Quiet, large twin beds, ample space for suitcases, nice bathroom and lots of parking space.

I had a slight problem on arrival in this hotel. I'd booked (and paid) for a twin and a double for single occupancy - but when the receptionist realised I was on my own she put me in a single room - which was a really grim, unwelcoming room. I then asked for what I'd actually booked and was eventually put into a twin room in the new block which was a much nicer room.
My adolescent children really struggled with the smell of sulphur in the shower (made both of them gag) - to the extent that they refused to use the shower on the second day. However, up the hill behing the hotel is a really nice swimming pool which has a hot tub - and the showers there don't smell of sulphur. Problem solved!
From this hotel we went white water rafting with Hestasport (about half a mile up the road) - which is the best fun ever!
The food in this hotel was fantastic - really well-prepared fresh food - with the best scallops I have ever tasted.
