“priceless views!”
Reviewed 19 August 2011

if you want to get rid of the busy streets and eternal crowd after enjoying costa del sol's shimmering sun, this place is surely a haven of tranquility, charm and romance.... overlooking the mountains while having your dinner and welcoming the sun the next day with the smell of fresh gardens.... do i need really to say more?...

It´s a fantastic charming hotel localed less than 5 minutes drive from the motorway., and 35 minutes from Malaga´s airport. Its between Benamocarra and Velez, two typical Spanishvillages with plenty of bars and restaurants. The hotel is in the countrysite and it´s a real hidden gem. It ´s new, and it looks like a Spanish Cortijo, a paradise for a get away.
The reception area is full of charm with plenty of seating to live the atmosphere. They have a selection of national and international papers for their guests,
ROOMS
The have standard and superior rooms. We stayed in a superior room (12) (it worths the extra), four posters bed, lovely decoration, corner room with several balconeys and views over the countryside, even the bathroom has a window to enjoy the views while having a shower. The perfect romantic suite.
STAFF
Very nice staff in the reception, they speak languages so this is a bonus. The guests are a mix between Spanish and European. Very helpful maids.
SERVICES
The hotel has a beautiful pool, with plenty of sunbeds, and it´s so quiet, it´s really lovely.
Plenty of free parking space in the hotel. If staying here better hire a car, because it´s in the countryside.
BARS
The hotel has a bar, with a good selection of drinks, very reasonable prices
RESTAURANT
The restaurant offers high quality food at good prices. It has a terrace, very nice to have a romantic dinner.
Breakfast was included in the price, Buffet style, plenty of choice (orange juice, coffee, pastries...)
THE AREA
-Staying here, you must go to Nerja (the most beautiful town in Málaga, only 20 minutes ion the motorway) and visit the Balcon the Europa.
-El Ingenio Shopping Center is 5 minutes drive from the hotel, lots of shops, bars and cinemas (even a Dunnes Stores and a Bookworld).
-Make sure you go to Torre del Mar, the coastal side of this village. Go to the promenade and eat in one of the lots of fish bars in the area, very good prices. El Yate and La Cueva very popular there. For an Icecream Neptuno, right at the beachfront is a bonus with homemade icecreams and cakes.

If you are looking for a nice hotel, full of charm, to live the real Spain, this is the place.

Located at the top of a hill, the hotel is very nicely structured, all rooms being different. The beds are very comfortable. The pool area and the garden are magnificent.

The hotel is a magnificent well run property in a supurb peaceful location with easy access to the beaches and restaurants. Excellent friendly front of house staff. Breakfast is wonderful with a very good selection that suits everyone's taste. On the downside however we would not recommend the restaurant anymore. The hotel no longer operates it and the meal that we had after the restaurant had been taken over by outside caterers was a complete disaster. Even the bread rolls served at dinner were the rolls from breakfast, hard and stale. One of our meals was completely inedible. When we complained all we got was a shrug of the shoulders. There was no point in complaining to the hotel as they no longer had any say. An extraordinary situation, I don't know how this will work out for the hotel. It's a terrible shame, we felt like idiots.

We have often stopped for Coffee at the charming Hotel Cortijo Bravo (we live some 15 minutes away) but tonight was the first time we had eaten there. As it was our Wedding Anniversary we hoped for a good experience and were not disappointed.

We called in this morning to reserve a table and were given the option of sitting either inside or out on the attractive terrace - we chose the latter.

On arrival this evening we first stopped for a drink in the bar. Service was somewhat slow but we eventually got our order. After enjoying a delicious G+T (Larios Gin of course) we entered the restaurant where the solitary waiter seemed rather surprised to find he had a booking! However, he soon sorted out our table and gave us the menus before asking what we wanted to drink; we hadn´t been offered a Wine List so plumped for a bottle of House Rosé that was actually delicious and not bad value at €12 a bottle.

The menu was small but had some interesting options; we had seen a previous TA review that said meat dishes were better than fish but still decided to plump for main couse fish dishes. I also chose fish for my starter - Salmon Tartare with Shallots and Pickles whilst Hubby opted for the Homemade Paté; both dishes were superb (and enormous!) and I can honestly say that my Salmon dish was the best Starter I have ever had! Hubbys Paté was equally delicious and was served with both thin slivers of white Bread and small pieces of Ginger Cake - Ginger Cake + Paté proving to be a marriage made in Heaven!

Both main course dishes were delicious - Hubby had Hake with a Champagne Sauce whilst I had Cod with Ratatouille; both main courses were considerably smaller than the Starters but beautifully cooked and presented.

As we were both feeling over full by the end of our main courses we refused Dessert but both had Coffee whilst I finished with a Brandy.

Service was somewhat hit and miss throughout the meal - especially as there were only 3 tables occupied - but the food quality, pleasant attitude of the waiter and final bill (under €80 for the 2 of us) more than made us for this.

All in all a most enjoyable evening that we hope to repeat soon.

By the way a previous poster states that Velez Malaga is not worth exploring. I have to strongly disagree with this - although the outskirts are pretty ugly with numerous apartment blocks the old town centre is absolutely charming and the climb up to the Church and Castle fascinating.

This was our 3rd visit to this beautiful hotel - it was for a double birthday celebration. Sadly it was a real dissapointment due to the lack of staff . There were many problems from no chef to cook breakfast to nobody answering the telephone for room service . I could go on but its too depressing !!!! The most important thing to mention is the wonderful staff that were available ; SERGIO & ALESSANDRO & RICARDO !!!! they are all very kind, helpful, hardworking people . A lso CHRISTINA & PATRICIA on reception thank you all for doing your best under very difficult circumstances. We understand from the manager that due to the recession the hotel owners have made serious cutbacks to staff ! BUT HOW CAN YOU RUN A HOTEL WITHOUT SUFFICIENT STAFF! There was only ever ONE waiter working at any time - this is not acceptable in a 20 room hotel!!! I must add that the recession has affected lots of businesses and people including my family who worked hard and looked forward to their holiday to receive this very poor lack of service due to staff cutbacks - UNBELEIVABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do hope the owners read this review and rectify the staff problem as this is a fantastic hotel and could hopefully be as wonderful as it was on previous visits !

small hotel, andalusian style with a contemporary twist, very tastefullly decorated in tone of mushroom and taupe throughout. large bed and a beautiful chaise longue in the bedroom. Had a lovely balcony with fantastic views over the hills. great toiletries. very good breakfast with fresh fruits and juice, nice puff pastries. rural location, a bit in the middle of nowhere. Velez Malaga town close but not worth visiting and beach about 15-20 min by car. A wedding or party nearby spoiled one night till early hours of the morning. staff friendly. Internet access virtually impossible during all our stay. Would I return, Yes.

Room Tip: ask for a room with balcony
