Beautifully prepared food in river front cafe. Good value for money - excellent choice of daily combinations. Viable wine list.

We ordered an honest menu at €16.80 and got 8 whopping oysters as our first course, and fresh fish as the main course. We drank a half-bottle of a reasonably priced (€9) Cuvée Clerville Blanc wine. Sète as a town seems to be past its prime, but there are still plenty of fish restaurants along the canals, open even off season. La Calanque ("calanca" means "cove" in Occitan) has large windows, and we sat at the sunny end, which was fine (in March of course!). Some people braved it outside.

We should have realized that as it was the only restaurant serving lunch at 4 pm it was a bad sign...the waiter was appauling, took forever to serve us, never asked how the meal was or if we wanted more drinks. When we placed the order we asked for mains, then asked for starters, he ripped the paper off his note pad and through it on the floor in disgust!!!!! Terrible attitude, he is lucky the serivce charge is compulsory in France or we would not have given one.

As for the food, disgusting...my calamari had too much batter and was tasteless, as for the main, we opted for the Grilled Fish platter for two....we waited one hour for this to come out, awful, worst food we have had in our lives...most of the fish were dry, the octupus I had to spit out it had a terrible taste, the tuna was OK ish.... As for the sauces, we daren't touch then, they looked as though they had been used before and placed back in the fridge uncovered so they had a crust on top of them.

The waiter seemed surprised when he asked if the meal was nice and I told him it was terrible! He didn't seem to care...then to make matters worse, when the bill came he had charged us for too many drinks....

If you are in Sete and this seems the only place open, please....go to McDonalds!!!!

A good place to experience some of the traditional seafoods of Sete, very reasonably priced. Our meals were excellent and the service was very good. The weather was a little cool when we visited, so we appreciated being able to sit indoors, but next to very large windows overlooking the canal and the busy activity on the sidewalk -- so it was still like being outside.
