We were in Normandy region driving between Mont St. Michel and Bayeux for our D-Day tour and we made a point to find this restaurant specifically because of its great reviews on Trip Advisor! Our French-speaking son went into a semi-dark restaurant, after we noticed a couple inside. He explained that we had sought them out because we had heard great things and inquired if they were open? The lights came on, outside light was lit, wood put on the fire and smiles and graciousness greeted us from the moment we arrived! We were there on our Thanksgiving, so we intended it to be a treat for all of us and it certainly was! My husband nad I shared the steak for 2, which as described in all the reviews was cooked over the fire we were seated beside. Our son had a shish-ka-bob (can't remember its French name) also cooked in front of us! The meat was delicious, flavorful, and tender. The appetizer provided was a pastry wrapped piece of meat which was delicious! Also accompanying the meal was a roasted tomato and a beautifully layered potato au gratin. The wine recommended suited us perfectly! Our only regret was that we didn't get a chance to try a dessert, because we were too well-fed! For the entire time we were there, we were the only customers in the place. I truly believe they may have been closed, but opened for us! Awards and recognition for exemplary cooking hung on the walls--as did a photo of the place taken maybe 100 years ago. I highly recommend you go out of the way, re-route your trip and FIND this little place. You won't be sorry!

We were recommended this restaurant by our French host - and it turned out to be quite a gem.
Greeted at the entrance by the chef.....little amuse-bouche (bite sized tasters) to start...good choices on the menu....brochettes and steaks cooked on the fire in the restaurant....fabulous desserts.....and a lovely selection of cheeses. If you're staying anywhere near Bayeux, I would recommend a trip out in to the country to this restaurant.

Found this from Trip Advisor and thought we would give it a try, so booked by phone for lunch. Having located it, we had a very warm welcome from the Chef and his wife and it has great atmosphere as well as very good cooking. The steaks are cooked on the log fire in front of you and be careful if you do not like them too underdone ! The Rognons de Veau were superb and the sorbets home made. Well recommended- especially as it was on our way back to Cherbourg for the evening boat to Poole. A good find

On a cold and rainy Saturday night in the fall, we had a delicious dinner in the warm and cozy dining room of this little restaurant in the tiny village. A fire in the fireplace, terrific wine, a warm and friendly staff -- and delicious food on top of all that. It was a memorable evening. Most of the other diners that night seemed to be local French people.

As like other reviewers on this site La Grignotiere was recommended by Dean, our innkeeper at LaBeauconniere. Dean assured us our dining experience would be something we soon would not forget. With directions in hand we found our way to this tiny restautant tucked aaway in the french countryside. We entered and were greeted by the waiter who although could not speak english was able to communucate with us just fine. We were seated at a table right next to the fireplace. Of the 10 or so tables in the restaurant the only other one occupied was of a party of 4. We ordered a bottle of wine had pleasant conversation with the other guests and took in the atmosphere of this great restaurant. Our dinner was very good, we ordered the goat cheese salad and the oyster and mushroom compote. Our steak which was cooked to perfection in front of us on the open wood fireplace was perfect as well. Along with the desserts our entire dining experience was just great. Along with the other major sitseeing attractions in this area be sure to include La Grignotiere. This is a dining experience that is very french, and very good. if you're in the area don't miss this place.
