Balneo Hotel Zsori Thermal & Wellness
Ranked #1 of 2 Hotels in Mezokovesd
Reviewed 29 August 2013

We stayed 3 nights in Balneo Hotel with my Mom over the long weekend of the national holiday of 20th of August. The hotel is about 10 minutes drive from Mezőkövesd centre, we took the public bus, which is very cheap and runs quite often to the holiday village of Zsori, where the hotel is situated. The hotel was quite busy all the time but we had a fantastic quiet room on the second floor facing the entrance driveway of the hotel. The room was spotless, brand new furnitures, extra comfy bed, amazing shower and even a balcony for every room that you can enjoy. The area of the hotel was also quiet, if you are not keen on using the aircon at night, you could leave the balcony door open.
The guests were quite mixed at the time we stayed, mainly elderly couples and families with kids/youngsters, some young couples. Most of the guests were Hungarian.
I have to highlight the cleanliness of the rooms and the excellent quality of the food offered for dinner. The cleaning lady asked us if we wanted any cleaning or anything for the room the first day as she found us in the room during cleaning time.
The restaurant is situated by the pool with an adequate number of tables to sit outside. We sit mainly outside although the last night we had to spend inside and it was quite hot and humid in the corner where we found a table. I don't think any aircon was working as the doors were open.
Breakfast was nothing special, continental choice, cereals, jams, 2 choice of scrambled eggs, variety of breads, sausages, salads, 3 choices of juices but a large choice of hot drinks from vending machines. Dinner was on the other hand excellent quality with an adequiate choice of dishes to choose from. Nice salads but I was missing the range of sides as most of the nights there were only 2-3 choices, like potato croquettes or rice, but at least not the ordinary chips.
The reastaurant experience could have been 5 star if only the lack of staff wouldn't let it down. Most of the evenings we were struggling to order drinks as the waiters were so overloaded and disorganised. They were very-very polite and smiley but you could see they are struggling to get everything done and there was no specific drink waiter who could go around and take the orders. During our last dinner we managed to order and get our drinks 10 minutes later when we were having our last bits of our desserts. I think in a 4 star hotel there should be more emphasis on restaurant service and staff should be more organised and should be more people at peek periods especially considering that there are only a few restaurant in the area where you can dine out. Restaurant drink prices were I think acceptable considering 4*, you can choose really expensive but also average priced drinks as well.
Reception staff was again nothing special, the gentleman who finished our checking-in didn't even bother to tell us about the free entry tickets to the Matyo museum. On our last night when the TV broke (no signal) and we went down for dinner I wanted to report the problem to reception, but the lady there just told quite rudely that they know about it, there's a central problem and the specialists are on it. Unfortunately they didn't manage to repare it until the next day when we checked out. Anyway TV was not the utmost service we wanted but it would have been nice to watch it as we finished with dinner too late to sit out on the balcony.
Spa facilities were okay, but considering the almost full house it seemed too tiny for all those people. We were lucky if we could find an empty sunbed at 8:30 in the morning when we came down to have breakfast as most of the people woke up probably at 6 to rush down and put their towels on the sunbeds which stayed then empty for the rest of the day, as people spent the whole day in the pool. But again it's only the selfishness of people. The ice cabin and one of the other cabins were not working but I could try out the sauna and the steam cabin and my Mom enjoyed very much the salt cabin. It's a shame that it's just way too small when there is a full house. But there's the thermal and pleasure beach just 200 meters away with acceptable entrance fee so you can relax outside the hotel as we did 3 out of 4 days. We didn't try any massage but checking out the prices at the thermal beach we found the beach a bit cheaper even after paying the entrance fee, the sauna world fee and for the massage not to mention that you can use all the facilities for almost the same price as a massage costs in the hotel.

Overall it's a great hotel, nice restaurant staff, excellent cleanliness and dinner, and great spa facilities but not at busy times.

Room Tip: Second floor facing the entrance driveway was nice, quiet although not the best view.

Connected to New Year's Eve a few days we were in this hotel. Full house, which was noticeably difficult was the leadership and staff (had to wait for our room, there was no new towels and bathrobes in the room, sometimes cleaning problems, difficulties and poor food supply, dirty tablecloths, etc). Entering the hotel, the guest receives a strong smell of food, given that the restaurant is the food storage island with one unit of the reception and the lobby. That's just icing on the cake to eat in the restaurant guests bathrobe, because the restaurant has direct access to the pool space. The hotel is a few years old, but still looks older. This applies in particular to the wellness area, which is a bit devastated. The spa is very small anyway and guest rooms, many regarding. The kitchen is of mediocre quality. The staff tries to be helpful, I think the main problem is the management and organization. In any case, this hotel does not deserve more than three star, the services provided are high compared to the prices. The choice recommended to take this into consideration.

Balneo hotel is situated in a small town with the name that is difficult to spell - MEZOKOVEZD.
I didn't expect too much from staying there. But I was mistaken. Small town but very good hotel and his 4 Stars are deserved.
Regret to say that I stayed there only one night. It was transit hotel for us and we came at 10 PM and departured at 9 AM. That's why I couldn't enjoy nice outdoor and indoor swimming pools. But nevertheless it was good room for small money especially in comparison with Vienna.
The room was very good with balcony. I liked bed with orthopedic mattress. You don't hear the noise from the street, the district is quiet. There was hair dryer and even scales (it was good thing for ladies who like to start the day from stepping on its platform:). The fridge was full with beer, alcohol, juice etc but as you may guess prices for all that were high.
Now breakfast...forget the scales and everything:)
There was smiling chief who prepared omlette in front of you and you could chose different topping: mushrooms, bacon, sausages, cheese etc. Of course I could not resist temptation. Special thanks to chief .")..
There was also milk porridge (semolina) , very tasty cakes, even melon (quite unexpected in October). I liked everything and regretted that I couldn't stay there for two more days.
If you enjoy quite and calm atmosphere and friendly staff, go to this hotel and you won't regret!

I've stayed 5 nights at the Balneo at a business trip. The hotel is pretty new, the rooms are pretty roomy and the bathroom is nice. Plenty of hot water and the AC would work very well – and believe me that is not that easy to find in that region. The restaurant was pretty good, they had a buffet every night that wouldn’t change much but tasted good. There’s a restaurant next door that I was told it means ‘Rose’ in English, that is very good. The service staff is nice and helpful. They had a very nice pool inside and another one outside. The only downsize is the location – it is in the middle of nowhere although it was very convenient to me because my business was in Mezokovesd, but I know I am an exception because there’s not really much in Mezokovesd. Other than that, great hotel and I would definitively stay there again.

Room Tip: When I was there they didn't have Wi-Fi available on the rooms, it was cable only. They had wi-f...

We have spent a weekend here with my friends. Since we were 3 of us, we have received a 'corner room', because it is bigger, and the extra bed has its own place.
In overall we really liked the WELLNESS SECTION: 4 pools, 2 of them thermal, from one of them you can swim outside. They also have 3 different saunas, steam cabin, salt cave and an ice machine (you can bring ice to the sauna from it). There were enough sunbeds, and we could also find them easily in the garden to have sunbath.
THE BREAKFAST and DINNER was delicious, with big variety: about 7 different mean courses for dinner. The only minor problem was they have not filled the food again about 1 hour before the end of the dinner/breakfast. There has been live music on Saturday as well: it did not brother me, but my friends did not like it, it was rather for middle-aged people.
Our ROOM was a bit overdated, and dark, with no nice view. I was here 3 years ago as well, when the hotel was very new, and I had a great room at that time. It is very visible on the corridors and I guess at some rooms that the hotel needs a slight renovation.
SERVICE, STAFF: all the waiters have been very polite and hard-working. The staff was always very helpful, and polite, smiling most of the time. The only thing we did not like: the room-maid came 9 o'clock in the morning to check the mini bar consumption !?!?! It is partly our fault, since we did not hang the 'Do not disturb' plate out.
To summarize, it is a nice, middle-sized hotel with great wellness and food; ideal for families, friends, couples as well.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room (last one on the corridor), since it is bigger. And also ask for pool-view.

We booked this hotel last minute because we had one last day to spend in Hungary and we wanted to be not too far from Budapest. It was Friday so we expected to be busy but not so disorganised! Most of the guests staying there were locals who looked rather wealthy so I guess that according to their standards their hotel is rather good.
The price included half board which was awful!!! there was terrible live music, dinner was only served until 9pm and when we got there at 8.20pm most of the food was gone, all the table were dirty but the waiters were too busy to do anything about it. Breakfast was just the same!
Also as people were smoking everywhere (even if it was forbidden in certain floors) the smell was unberable.
Room was okay, with a good sized shower but it looked out of the 80s.
The Spa was overcrowded and nothing special. Pity we spent our last day here!

Room Tip: just don't stay here
