We had a really lovely week – plus an extra two nights due to the volcanic ash – in this delightful hotel. We booked their special all-in walking package which included excellent homemade three course meals, picnics, and travel to the start or from the finish of walks (sometimes avoiding a long trek uphill at the end).

Lovely breakfasts and very personal service – including meeting my wife’s request for a pot of Earl Grey tea when we returned - with excellent instructions and guidance on the different walks, and a map thrown in. The staff were really helpful too – allowing us to use their internet to book buses, hotels etc when our flight was cancelled. Definitely, no need for a travel company with service this good! We highly recommend this for a very special Alpujarras experience.

stayed for a week on a half board basis as we were not sure of what was available in the local area, big mistake. astonished to have no choice for starter or main course and that on most nights the postres came stright off a supermarket shelf in the shape of creme caramel or mousse.

cannot disagree with comments about staff etc but would not choose the half board option if i were to return to the hotel in future.

When you choose our half board option you have a set menu for dinner; but you can ask for an alternative dish if you don't like what's on offer. If you don't have half board you can choose what you want from the dinner menu but it costs 3 Euros more. These options are explained on the web site or when you make a reservation.
Our creme caramels have been hand made in our hotel kitchens for at least fifteen years. The chocolate mousse has been made here continually for the past eight years and is the original recipe of a Dutch friend's grandmother. Both desserts are extremely popular and by no means have either seen a supermarket shelf.

Living in southern Spain we arranged to visit the Alhambra and then on to find snow in the Alpujarras. the Hotel was booked principally because of the very high quality of the customer reviews, we were not disappointed.
The cold nights made the scent and warmth of the log fire in the lounge special, very tasty home cooked food, too much for most of us! was wonderful, Wendy even had a birthday cake made for me, that is typical of the the care and attention we received, nothing was too much trouble.
Its a very interesting area to explore, on foot, on horse back or as in our case a 4 X 4, It was my 69 th birthday
I will certainly go back in the spring, there is so much to see and do there through out the changing seasons.

We didn’t have any plans to stay in this town, much less at this hotel, during our weeklong village-to-village walk in Las Alpujarras. On our third day, though, we realized we’d over-estimated the distance we could cover and arrived in Berchules in a heavy downpour and without a reservation. Fortunately, there were rooms available, but Wendy, the owner, explained with deep regret that they had only two single rooms available. Under our bedraggled circumstances, we reluctantly decided to take the single rooms.

It is a tribute to the wonderful atmosphere of the hotel that, despite the fact that we were on the back of the hotel, without the sweeping views and terraces that all the doubles have, we had a great time. The detailed information for walkers is terrific, the family owners are wonderfully helpful, and the food and drink are plentiful and great. Everything was reasonably priced.

Because we had single rooms, we ending up spending a lot of time in the public area of the hotel. There’s a fireplace, sofas, tables and chairs, as well as sunny, comfortable outside tables and chairs. We enjoyed meeting other travelers, almost all walkers or cyclists, and joined others for dinner one night.

Wendy and her family really went out of their way to ensure that we enjoyed ourselves. We ended up spending three nights there, made spectacular day hikes from their hotel, and could easily have spent a week there. We highly recommend the Hotel Los Berchules as a very comfortable hotel with exceptional service in an ideal location to explore the region.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome by Wendy, Alejandro, Sammy the dog and all the staff. Nothing was ever too much trouble no matter what time you wanted anything. The rooms are spotless, the meals superb with some really delicious homemade preserves at breakfast. The whole hotel is very professionally run and everyone involved is so helpful. The company of the dog on walks is delightful! This hotel is an absolute gem and we were so impressed that already we have made plans for a return visit.
