Had read up all the reviews on Trip Advisor before going, thus was looking forward to the place.. Honestly on reaching we were very scared initially coz it was very remotely located and totally pitch dark.. But later on reaching and meeting the owners wife realised its not at all a hotel / resort but its actually a home stay.. a old British kind of home.. EXCELLENT LOCATION ... U feel that u R staying rite in the midst of woods with only birds for company,, ofcourse the owners have many dogs(Which bark quite a bit), horses and cows too. Just below our room there was a stream flowing which we could enjoy all by ourselves.. I cannot forget to mention the absolutely delicious Italian fare which they serve.. my kids enjoyed every morsel.. I however also must caution that do not expect huge hotel kind of rooms(V had taken a suite But it was quite small) .. I also felt that too many cloth decorations hamper the cleanliness point.. But the LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION out does all other minor defects.. V Loved the place. :)

We visited this place around first week of august 2013. On arriving we were well greeted and shown our booked cottage.. We did find our cottage bit small considering the amount it cost, but since it was raining and we did not come by our private vehicle..we decided to stay on..(This place is around 12-13 km from city)..we definitely loved the surroundings..Don't go by the name..its a resort with 3 cottages.. very artistically designed and maintained...extensive greenery on a patch of hilly land...we had booked a package including breakfast and dinner for 2...we arrived around 11-12 AM..host was nice enough to offer us breakfast off the regular hours..no one disturbs you..unless you want to...Then was the best part..dinner!!!! we had heard a lot about it and were all set to go for it..We were server full 7 course Italian-French.. and we loved it!! best was chicken sizzler(never expected it in package deal :-))..though my friend would vote for pizza and apple cake with cream...post having this dinner, we were glad we stayed on!

Though some people may have reservations as i do regarding..a big spider on the wall..a snail, sucking your blood..when you sit out in garden.. few similar creatures sliding on your rock table..when your are having drinks outside... But this is what it is to live in nature..off beat your regular neat..safe homes! :-)

ive been to akshays place couple of times. very private, practically in natures belly and the most authentic European culinary one can savour. as they do not take walk/ins one needs to make reservations atleast 24hrs prior. i recommend this place.

Superb property...nestled in orchards n away from maddening rush of people in Nainital.. this is your perfect break if you are looking to spend some time close to nature, away from touristy traps.. there is a lot to do & see around..

Akshay & his staff is warm & welcoming and churns out amazing Italian & continental cuisines...

They also entertain group lunches if you inform them like 24 hrs in advance, do get in touch with Akshay to fix up your lunch!

Run by Akshay, this is one of the better off beat destinations to stay around Nainital.

It lies on Kathgodam Almora Road and best way to reach here is via Bhimtal. The Owner, Akshay is fine person and helped us book a cab from kathgodam station.

As soon as you enter the resort you are greeted by huge Bell Flower tree which is quite a sight.

It is a well maintained property with flowers, gardens, open areas a small, natural splash pool, Start gazing deck & lounge with music system.

It also has covered eating/relaxing area to spend evening time.

Food was definitely good and they could whip up a lot of cuisines - however we stuck to only Indian ones.

Staff is very courteous and extra helpful.

We were looking forward to meet Akshay but it did not happen :)

They have dogs and are a pet friendly place. In case you are not fond of the pets, you might take their barking as slight disturbance in a very peaceful environment.

Room Tip: Room farthest from the main building is good. Offers privacy n almost no disturbance :)

I have been meeting to write this review. Unfortunately got caught up, We were staying in the vicinity and per chance happened to meet Akhsay who owns and heads up Garden Valley Resort. he invited us to his Hotel and promised us a 7 course meal if we intimated him in advance,
We took him up and landed at his resort for Italian and Mexican food. We had our reservation on the authenticity of the food....but were we proven wrong!!!!.
Akshay is a trained chef with experiences across the world. He whipped up the most amazing Italian meal I had ever. Each course was prepared with genuine passion and by the time dessert came along we were gasping for breathe but nevertheless gorged on the chocolate cake
The soup, salad, quiche and the grilled fish were exquisite. He had made some fajitas for my son; which were brilliant too.
The ambiance is dreamy too; with mountains and a riot of flowers and a stream running closeby. We could not stay there and we honestly did not check the accommodations but with food like this being served...I guess it becomes inconsequential.
I would also like to complement Akshay on his hospitality. He ensured that we enjoyed the food without being too obtrusive at the same time was around to share in the conversations.
Uttarakhand is really far from Mumbai but it is definitely in my radar for a longer stop at Garden Valley Resort.
I absolutely recommend anyone traveling to Uttarakhand to stop-over for pure gourmet pleasure

Room Tip: Not applicable as we just had a meal

We stayed here as 2 families with 2 little children. The place is tucked away on a hill slope. The good part first. It is truly beautiful. It is so green and they have a lovely little garden. But the best part of our stay was the food. I have never met anyone so passionate about serving excellent food to their guests as Askhay, our host. Every meal was a gourmet delight. Every meal was at least a 3 course affair. And the taste can beat any five star restaurant hands down. Nanital is just 15 minutes away.
Now the Not so Good Part. We rented 2 cottages. The New cottage was truly lovely. The old one was not particularly of my liking. Its bathroom was bad. There was an issue of big spider emerging at night but next day our host Akshay assured us they were harmless. They were coming up with new cottages at that time.
Otherwise a good getaway. My advise would be to eat all meals here and just enjoy the Nature here.
