We stayed in hotel on 10th June 2013 for one night. Location of the hotel is very good at mall road
and this is only plus point of the hotel.they are not at all professionals as if they are knowing that in peak season tourist will come to them what ever be their services.Room was spacious but not very clean,Bathroom was Big but very unclean, leaking cistern, no exhaust fan, spider web on the ventilator.
Worst part on them which compelled to wright here was there is no service at all in the hotel after 10 pm they even disconnected the room intercom service also , i had to walk downstairs two floors twice or thrice to ask for milk hot water but only staff available was a Choukidar with the NO for everything. You have to dine till 9.30 only and we are the person who like to wander at mall road till late night. After paying 4500/- bugs for a night no service after 10 pm ?Not justified. Only good thing was the waiter who made arrangements for my drinks and dinner was good but again hasty to go home at 10pm.

Pro of the hotel:
1. Excellent location- on the mall road and near the bus stand.
2. It s on the zoo road .
3. boating booking center is just in front of it.
4. credit card accepted.

Cons:
1, Toilet was little stinky,

We got an amazing room, right on top floor (sort of like a terrace) of the hotel. The room was airy, with lots of windows and a private balcony and surprisingly super clean and large bathroom. Both room AND bathroom had beautiful view of the lake (bathroom had a huge window overlooking the lake). The staff was simple and nice. The hotel is nicely located on the mall road, a little before the noisy part of the mall road begins. We loved this location. Breakfast that they gave us was very good and neatly prepared and presented.

There were several terraces which were nicely done up with flowers etc where we could sit for a meal or just relax in the cool weather of Nainital. Great Experience!!

Room Tip: Room N0 51 is big and has a great view.

Everytime I have been to Nainital I have stayed in this particular hotel just because of its location and terrace view of the lake which is better than Alka! The rooms on the 2nd floor onwards are better choice as the view from terrace and verandah is awesome. It was so peaceful to sit with a cup of tea and just enjoy the scenery. As far as the food is concerned you don't get everything on the menu however whatever is available tastes good so no complains there!I have been to Nainital 4 times and everytime it was this Hotel I chose to stay and will be doing so in future too.

Room Tip: Higher floors rooms are the best.

stayed at hotel evelyn in March, 2013, we took suit room which is on the ground floor. very gloomy interiors. but I couldn't find any hotel with respect to location , bang on mall road. best thing i liked about is that i could sit in the outside verandah of my room and gaze at lake and the road. In naintal having a hotel at altitude is a problem and that's where this hotel scores.
They have a open air resturant on the roof and that is also amazing, view from there, you can sit for hours in the roof. THe aaloo parnatha i ate along with yellow dal was out of the world. go for it if you want location otherwise the interior of hotel is third class.

Room Tip: groud floor suits are costly can go for Ist or IInd floor rooms

We stayed there fr 2 nights..The rooms we were given was spacious,, with beautiful wooden work n sofas. Just that the maintenance was not very good. Washrooms were just OK, could have been better. The service was ok, but the manager i guess did not believe in hospitality. Didnot order food from the hotel,, as there were many good options on the mall road nearby..

Room Tip: Pick the room adjacent to the dining area.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Evelyn is among one of the oldest hotels in Nainital and has a rich history of hospitality. It has been serving guests even before the town became a retreat for city-weary souls and saw a burgeoning hotel industry. Before 1947, Mrs Page, a British lady ran a guesthouse of the same name, where the hotel stands today. Since Indian Independence, it has been owned and run by Mr S.L Sah's family. It was his will power and dynamism that metamorphosed a small guesthouse into a 60-room hotel.Today Hotel Evelyn offers the height of convenience and comfort to guests. From the Mall Road you can get a glimpse of the impressive facade of the hotel and as you explore further a visual treat awaits you. It has a magnificent view of the Naini lake, the weeping willows arched delicately over the resplendent waters and the Holy 'Pashan Devi' temple right across. The flower be-decked terrace will simply take your breath away. The hotel rooms are elegant and equipped with modern amenities to make your stay a memorable one.Choosing from a myriad of hotels in Nainital can be quite a task, but if you want to experience the old world chalet-like charm of wooden paneled walls coupled with the luxury of all modern amenities, then ours is the hotel that you need to head to. ... more   less
