We spotted Adventure Tours Norway's booking tent when we left our cruise ship in Skjolden. It was a spur of the moment decision to join a RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) tour which turned out to be one of the highlights of the Norway Cruise.

Each RIB takes only 10 passengers and we were soon kitted kitted out in full dry suits (and goggles for those sitting at the front). The trip started quite sedately but very quickly our driver opened up the throttle and we were hurtling down the fjord.

I didn't get the driver's name but he was excellent - stopping at various points along the fjord to tell us about points of interest and making loops etc. to make the journey exciting. We spent around 45 minutes on the water.

Skjolden itself is a sleepy little town (absolutely nothing wrong with that) but it well worth seeking out Adventure Tours to inject some high octane fun into your visit. It was also considerably cheaper than booking a RIB trip on board the cruise ship (these had been offered at out previous port of call, Olden).

We just took the Zodiac tour of the Fjord with Karlis. We were two grandparents, two parents and two girls aged 6 and 7. After putting on jumpsuits that kept us warm and dry, we sped around the water with music accompaniment, stopping for close-ups of waterfalls and cliffs. Karlis answered all our questions about life on the fjord and it was a great way to enjoy the spectacular scenery. Our six yr. old said it was the highlight of her trip so far.

My family and I (from 12 to 72 years old) tried the “Fjord Adventure” tour with a hike to the waterfall. This was a super experience for both old and young with a lot of nice views from the boat and speed/action for the children that I can recommend. Because we had the guide with us it was possible to explore the waterfall much more than we would have done without him, giving my sons a great experience getting really close to the waterfall. If you are not use to do something like this on you own I will definitely recommend this tour as it made the entire family feel safe and you also got a lot of interesting information about the area during the tour from the guide.
