Four different cottages set on a hillside overlooking the sea on the Wild West coast. Quaint but comfortable with bags of character. We were in Rimu which was a good size, clean and a great place to relax after a long drive. Two hobs and a microwave, fridge, etc.. Slept really well. Didn't use the outside bath! Could have stayed longer. Ten minute walk along the main road to the Pancake Rocks.

I booked this accommodation after reading excellent reports on Tripadvisor. Arrived on a very rainy afternoon, found the accommodation beautifully appointed & thankfully Karen had the heater on. We stayed in the Miro Cottage. Beautiful comfy bed, everything you could want & need there limited cooking facilities in this particular but booked knowing that. But still had bar fridge & toaster, with plates cutlery etc. So ample for an overnight stop. Suited us perfectly. Waking in the morning watching the surf pounding from our bed was pretty special. What a shame we only had one night there on our way to Christchurch. Property has a guest laundry. No tea bags real tea with teapot & strainer. Walked the pancake rocks in the rain what a great experience & able to hang our coats in little alcove in foyer outside cottage. Had dinner at the Tavern had a nice meal & wine, very handy to cottage. Breakfast in the morning was at the cafe so all very handy for a one night stay or longer. A beautiful warm & inviting cottage. Thank you Karen

The Hydrangea Cottages have heaps of character. They are beautifully furnished and Karen was really helpful and she and my Mum struck up a happy acquaintanceship quite quickly. Even though there was not much that we were going to be doing at Punakaiki the property induced us to extend our stay by another night - it is that good. If you're doing a fairly hectic driving holiday like we were (pretty much covered the entire South Island except for the southern edge comprising Dunedin, Invercargill and Stewart island) a stop at the lovely location - Punakaiki, walks along the beach nearby, a visit to the Pancake Rocks and a walk along the river are a perfect way to catch your breath. And the Hydrangea Cottages with their really thoughtfully furnished cottages, is a perfect place to do it.

Room Tip: All the rooms overlook the sea but the ones on the first floor are more expensive. The sea is close...

We stayed in one of the cottages-super comfortable. The location is fantastic as they are right next to the pancake rocks. The cottages are tastefully done and they are equipped with all the things you could need. Moreover the hosts ,Neil and his wife are so warm and friendly.Neil took our 10 yr old to show him the horses and that was the highlight of our son's trip.Wished we could have stayed longer and done some horseriding!

Room Tip: The cottages on the first floor have a seaview.

We stayed at Nikau Cottage with friends for 2 nights. The 2 bedroom cottage has a rustic charm but with all the mod cons. The setting is tucked away so its nice & private with great views of the ocean. The beds were very comfortable & the bathroom spacious & very clean.
You can walk to the Pancake Rocks & there is a cafe near the rocks or a restaurant at a hotel across the road. A great selection of good magazines & books to read if you want to stay in & DVD's available from the office. We really enjoyed our stay & would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: There are only 4 cottages. Miro cottage was next door to us - a one bedroom - & that also had th...

We had a really comfortable night at Rimu Cottage. It's tucked away at the back of the property, so you're not bothered by the road traffic. It's very peaceful and sitting on. The verandah in the afternoon sun is so pleasant. The bathroom is perfect with a superb shower. The cottage is unique, individual and charming. Very friendly reception staff too.
