A nice little motel which is very close to the sea. Great for watching the sun set and listening to the surf. Our room was clean, comfortable and well presented. We can recommend the pub just down the road for meals and very good atmosphere. The Pancake rocks are close by, just make sure that you aim to be there at high tide or you may be disappointed. WiFi internet access is via token that you need to purchase.

We stayed here one night as a halfway point on our drive from from Abel Tasman to Franz Josef. The cottages ARE right at the beach, but there is a rock wall that separates them, so you cannot see the ocean from your unit. However, there is a short, little side road you could easily follow to walk right on a long stretch of beach at low tide. The units are very spacious and comfortable if a bit dated. Quiet and conveniently located.

We had a one night stay here. The cottage is well located & within walking distance of the Pancake Rocks & to the local Tavern for a meal/drink. It is clean, comfortable, quiet & spacious though a little dated. Well equipped with everything needed for a short stay. Wifi for payment which we chose not to use. There are no fly screens on any windows or doors to keep the sandflies out.

We stayed in studio 2 which is absolute beachfront & has a little verandah. Even though it is beachfront, you can't see the beach from the studio as there is a rock wall/boundry between the beach & the cottages, you can however sit on the picnic tables on top of the wall if you want to watch the ocean.

Comfortable accommodation. Conveniently located for travellers without a car -- intercity bus stop is fairly close, as is the tavern, where one can get a meal. Bruce, the manager, could not have been more obliging.

We stayed two nights. As another reviewer mentioned there was a smell which the manager said was new linoleum (probably the glue). If you left the windows open you didn't notice it. We had a two bedroom cottage with a queen, and 3 twin beds. A big lounge. Kitchen. Toilet and shower. The queen bed was very comfortable. One night was very chilly and the small electric heater took a while to warm the place up. Walking distance to the tavern, the Pancake Rocks and the beach.

Room Tip: The Cottage would be good for a family of five.

Usually stay at the resort, but decided to try this little gem out and it certainly did not disappoint! You cant get any closer to the beach, the rooms are incredibly clean, spacious and the beds are exceptionally comfortable. The linen in soft and warm and of very high quality. You have the pub a 5 minute walk around the corner and the rocks just up the road. The owner was very welcoming and friendly and we had a great stay. Will be coming back to here over the resort next time for sure!

Room Tip: Unit 2 has a little shelter which is great (especially when theres a storm!) and both unit 1 and 2 a...

We selected this location because it was intermediate in price between a much more expensive property down the road and a backpackers stay. As some other reviewers have noted, the decor is dated, but the room comfortably served its purpose for us. We made our own dinners in the kitchenette and had room to spread out and organize our clothes (and wash them in the guest laundry). The beds had electric mattress pads which made it cozy in the evenings and early mornings, as it was a bit chilly. We ended up staying an additional night because we enjoyed the location so much.

We arrived late on the first day because it took us some extra time to drive in from our previous location. The next day we were very tired and did not do our planned activities; instead, we decided to see if we could stay an additional night so we could relax that day. The hosts were very accommodating and even helped us reschedule our bookings for the next two places we were scheduled to stay at. The hosts were very helpful in pointing us to activities they thought we would enjoy.

The beach in front of the motel is actually a rocky shore, not really a beach one would sit on and swim from. It is a wild West Coast beach with waves crashing on the rocks, and it is beautiful. The raised rocky walkway is a perfect place to watch and take pictures of the sun setting over the Tasman Sea, which we did all three nights of our stay.

Room Tip: Close the windows before dusk to reduce the amount of sandflies that come in!
