This is one of the nicer places we stayed in NZ, and not just because it's right on the beach. Rooms are nice and clean (we stayed in a triple), and the kitchen is great. It overlooks the ocean and really helps you unwind. It's got a cool vibe to it, and the owners/staff are very nice.

I love this hostel - I was here 8 years ago and stopped by again as I remembered how lovely it was the first time. It's so cosy and welcoming, with lots of space and right on the beach. It's a place to properly relax and a great way to break up the long journey down the west coast. Definitely stop a night here if you're passing through.

Location Location Location, right on the beach front close to everything. The owners of the Beach Hostel have done so well not having an tv at this hostel. They were lots of board games and soft easy listerning music. The bed was so big and comfortable and the sound of the waves crashing magically. OMG the home baking that you can buy for a small price worth it. If you go to Punakaiki stay at the Beach Hostel AAAA

This place is an absolute credit to the owners who have filled the place with warmth and charm. A superb location to lap up the scenery and sunsets, kick back and relax. Punakaiki has so much more to offer than the pancake rocks... walks, horse treks, kayaking, caves, bird-watching. Stay for a couple of nights to make the most of this great beach location and beautiful, calm, inviting atmosphere. Thanks for putting your hearts into the place Joe, Patrick, Toby and Martina... we came away feeling energised, inspired and hoping to be back soon!

Room Tip: The private room with beach outlook would be first preference!

Great location for us mid trip, stopping at Punakaiki and checking out the West Coast scenery in transit between Lewis Pass and Arthurs Pass, we were pleased to go that little bit further to make it possible. The deck is a great spot for an evening wine and a nibble while the waves crash. The beach is wonderfully deserted fr a stroll and perfectly positioned for watching the sunset. The only thing that disappointed about this hostel was that the front building blocks views of the main beach and it was a bit of a pain to traipse downstairs every time we wanted to use the bathroom. Otherwise very lovely place to stay. Good value.

Despite this being my first time staying at a hostel, this place feels very cosy and well-equipped. Upon arrival, I was pleasantly upgraded from single room to double, along with a Seaview glimpse. Kitchen, toilets and shower place were all clean and well-maintained. The room was lovely with a very comfortable bed. The beach is just infront of the hostel.:) recommended for couples/groups/solo travellers. :)

Distance between the hostel and bus stop is 400km. I was lugging my huge luggage going down the slope (it was raining!), which was challenging. However, on return - one of the owner, Joe, was very kind to send me to the bus stop. :)

Run by a very friendly German who was most accomodating and laidback. The place is right on the beach so naturally it comes with a great view. Facilities were all spotless! Had a nice meal at the local pub just up the road with friendly locals. Worth a stay this place!

Room Tip: You're right on the beach so you can't go wrong!
