We spent one night here on the way along the west coast with our campervan. The setting was superb being right next to a beautiful beach and a five minute walk from pancake rocks. A walk along the beach at sunset was beautiful and there were not too many sand flies! Facilities were good, if a little cramped but what really made it for us were the wonderful owners. We locked our keys in our campervan in the torrential morning rain and the owner (we never got his name!!!) came out and helped us get in. He was a real superstar!! We would definitely come back.

Hi Kate.

We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay here at the Punakaiki Beach Camp. 'Craig' the name of the Superstar would like to mention it was no problem at all to rescue you from an expensive insurance call out, on what was quite the rainy morning.

Enjoy your trip.
Jed

I loved staying here. I camped under the big pine tree just yards from the beach, and was lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waves on the shore. The camp hosts were friendly and informative, the facilities clean and well maintained. In fact I would find it hard to fault this campsite. I am SO coming back!
The famous pancake rocks are within easy walking distance of the campsite, and there are other activities in the local area...horse riding, tramps, caving and kayaking to name a few.

Punakaiki Beach camp boasts a phenomenal location- right by the ocean and the stunning Pororari River. You just can't beat this place for beauty. Surfboards and lessons for hire just sweetens the deal, or a dip or kayak in the river to cool off in the sun. Family run, friendly, awesome service- just make sure you give yourself a few days to stay and enjoy it!

We stopped on a powered site for one night and I wished we could have stayed longer. This is one of only a few campsites I will remember for its individuality and unique quirkiness. Lovely spacious sites. So close to be beach you can hear the waves a you go to sleep. The beach is superb, really beautiful and we went just before it went dark and got some amazing photos of the sunset. The amenities are very clean and well maintained as was the kitchen area, that had everything you needed. This is a wonderful location, some super walks with lovely scenery. Just go and stop here and enjoy. One of my favourites in NZ.

We live less than 2 hours drive from here but this has to be one of our favourite caravan spots. The limestone cliffs and valleys and the beach only a short walk from the camp are all amazing.

There are many short walks within a few minutes walk or drive from the campground.

The facilities are typical camping ground standard and well used by the many campers but are cleaned daily.

This place is a gem. I almost don't want to share it. Nifty cabins with fully stocked kitchenettes, very clean, and a quick walk to a fantastic beach. Friendly staff and a staggeringly gorgeous location. Sweet as!

We arrived at the park and met with the lovely new owner, he informed us that he had taken over the site 4 days ago. and told us of his exciting new plans to move the office to a new building with a shop in a more suitable location for all who stay.

Showers and toilets were nice, clean and warm - no complaints there. The grounds are lovely with great views over the coast and mountains

We stayed in a "budget" cabin - $42 for 2 people. Lovely for the night that we stayed with nice views and grounds.

The kitchens needs some equipment installed - possibly some pans, toaster, cooking utensils etc and basic washing up liquid, cloths so that we can help keep the kitchen clean for all who use it....

This is already a lovely place to stay and with a few little tweaks and personal touches by its new owners will be perfect! :-)

Will recommend to all to stay here as they travel along the West Coast of NZ as it is has some lovely walks and is near to the "Pancake rocks".

Good luck to the new owners!

Hi Tom. Thanks for your review! Yes we are very excited about our new venture! Just to let you know the new office is on the way and we are getting the site ready.
Thanks for your comments on the washing up equipment.
We now have washing liquid and cloths available in the kitchen, and for those in need of utensils we have a selection in the office to borrow.
Have a good holiday !
