We came across the Rocks Homestay by accident. This is a fabulous B&B that offers a couple of lovely rooms - one with a beautiful conservatory. The views of the sunset are wonderful and breakfast was great. Make sure you get the instructions to find it from the website.

Room Tip: Get the room with the conservatory!!

This is a pretty basic B&B. The location is OK and the views are pleasant but the facilities are below par given the cost. The en-suite bathroom for our room (the 'Art Room') was woeful - not much bigger than a broom cupboard with inadequate water pressure, insufficient hot water for 2 decent showers and nothing by way of shampoo or conditioner. The bedroom was small but adequate but there was nowhere two hang or store clothes apart from a few hooks. The hosts were pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was continental but of a good quality. All in all, not a disaster but less than could be reasonably expected at the cost. The limitations of the property aside, the area has a lot to commend it and is well worth a visit.

Room Tip: I believe the 'Sea Room' is a bit larger.

A very special place right in the rainforest around the Pancake Rocks! The welcome was great and very easy going, so we felt at home from the start. Joe and Patrick are nice hosts! The room had a very convenient conservatory with magnificent view on the forest and the sea. The breakfast has been the cherry on top (self-baked bread and rolls!!!). We loved it there very much and were pretty sad that we had to leave so soon (only our fault, now we know better;-)). Thank you, Joe and Patrick, see you next time!

What a lovely location for views of the rainforest and sea all in one. The sunsets can be amazing from your room. Huge windows let you feel like you are right outdoors. Patrick and Joe were very helpful and provided great information about the pancake rocks and trails in the area. And Patrick's homemade warm bread at breakfast was superb! Very comfortable stay for two nights in November. We were so glad to find The Rocks. Keep on keepin' on, Patrick and Joe. You have a very special place!

We had a very enjoyable stay in this unique tree house
the views were spectacular surrounded with mountains and trees one side
and a view of the ocean on the other
Patrick made us very welcome with home made cake and home baked bread to accompany
new laid eggs from their hens for breakfast
The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable
Thank you Patrick for making us so comfortable
Kind regards Peter and Margaret Clarke

We had a lovely nights stay at this B&B in Nov 2013. The room was well decorated with a clean bathroom and amazing views out onto the ocean. The enclosed balcony off our room was great also as it meant even in the rain we could sit and read and look at the view. The hosts were very friendly and gave us some tips on what to do in Punakaiki such as walk the nearby Truman track to the beach. The B&B is not in the centre of town however the town isnt big at all so this didnt matter, and it was only a 5min drive to restaurants and 10mins to the blowholes. The only very small negative was perhaps the breakfast. The food was great but just a bit healthy and small : ) The website had mentioned a cooked breakfast so we had hoped for maybe some eggs with bacon and mushrooms and tomatoes like we had had at our other B&Bs but instead got cereal, fruit, natural yoghurt, home made seeded bread and jam. We did ask for some eggs and got a small amount of scrambled eggs (laid by the hosts chickens) in a bowl to share which were still very lovely but not quite the cooked breakfast we were expecting. So really not a big negative but that would be the one area I think they could maybe expand on a little bit.

We were welcomed by Roli with tea and cakes, Eva and Roli were very friendly with lots of helpful tips for Punakaiki and ideas for our next stop in Nelson. The Rocks was in a stunning position with great views, a lovely home, which we enjoyed sharing with the family. The breakfast was delicious, home-made bread, preserves, with eggs cooked to your liking, great tasting coffee and muffins.

Room Tip: Try and get an upstairs room for a great view of the ocean.
