“The best B & B in England?”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

Quite simply the best B & B I have ever stayed at. Sue and Ken have not only a magnificent thatched cottage but an immaculate place to stay - it is right up there with the best. Don't be put off by the very narrow lanes that you have to use to get there! They are all part of the charm of being in a very secluded and beautiful part of Devon.

Room Tip: Unless you have a dog then ask to stay in the main cottage.

I just wanted to express what a wonderful experience it was staying at Frogmill B&B. Our daughter was graduating from the University of Exeter and we wanted something a bit different from the run of the mill hotels in Exeter - we were not disappointed. Sue and Ken were the perfect hosts, the room was extremely comfortable with quality linen and furnishings. Gourmet breakfasts just complemented the stay. We just need to find an excuse to come back - which we will!

Room Tip: Fingle Suite

What a wonderful B&B. Ken and Sue are the perfect hosts who provide their guests not only with a beautiful place to stay, a wonderfully decorated room and an excellent breakfast but also with a bunch of information about local places and even a little, perfectly planned out itinerary for a day out in the moor. The place itself is so beautiful with it's thatched roofs and impressive gardens. Everything is spotlessly clean with so much attention to detail. Wonderful retreat. Truly a 5 star experience.

From the moment we arrived in the car park to the moment we left two days later we were treated to the utmost help, and best welcome you could imagine. Before we opened the car door Ken was there to help with our cases. We had a heartfelt welcome from Sue and Ken who showed us to our fabulous room in their truly superb house. The large and tastefully furnished and spotlessly clean room with its beautiful en suite bathroom was perfect in every way, nothing had been forgotton to enhance the experience of two very grateful travellers.
After visiting a nearby pub restuarant for an evening meal (recommended by Sue and Ken and most enjoyable) we slept in one of the most comfotable beds we have ever experienced.
The following morning we enjoyed a superb breakfast followed by a pleasant walk in the 10 acres of lovely gardens. The breakfast had a wide choice of food available all of excellent quality from local suppliers and cooked to perfection.
We stayed only two nights, but made our minds up that our next visit will be for at least a week

Room Tip: We had a room looking over the back garden which was a delight, especially if you enjoy watching the...

Sue and Ken are such welcoming and friendly hosts, they really have thought of everything. Our room and the breakfast were both of the highest quality and the garden is beautiful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Having stayed in a variety of Hotels and B&B's both here and in many other countries, I can honestly say that this particular B&B is indeed all that has been said of it. Fantastic hosts, Ken abd Sue, make you feel very welcome and their attention to detail is fantastic.

If you like a quiet country setting this is the one for you. Set in beautiful Devonshire countryside all you hear are the birds. The surrounding area is also very quiet and if you enjoy walks then there are plenty to chose from.

Breakfast was superb and meant you did not have to worry about a lunch.

I would certainly recommend this B&B to anyone wanting to go to Devon and although not the cheapest, you do get what you pay for and with no complaints at all. A 5 star establishment by any criteria and we would go back.

We found this beautiful B&B purely by chance - as they were one of only a handufl of nice looking B&B's that accepted a dog. This one is tucked away off the beaten track not far from Exeter and on the fringe of Dartmoor. We were so glad we found it as it's absolutely delightful. Both Ken and Sue came to show us to our room and tell us about the place. They are both so enthusiastic, friendly and helpful - they made us feel really at home from the minute we arrived and nothing was too much trouble for them. After we'd had a chance to unpack Sue arranged for a welcome pot of tea and a piece of delicious lemon drizzle cake in a little "snug" sitting room full of interesting family photos. We were celebrating Paul's Birthday so had Dinner there the first evening and we thought it was excellent. You can choose to have either a 2 or 3 course dinner - (my only slight disappointment was that as we were having a 2 course dinner - we both had to have to have either a starter and main course OR a main course and dessert - but I guess that's totally understandable as it's not a restaurant) Sue's cooking is excellent and we had a delightful starter of fresh asparagus with stilton and walnuts followed by Rack of Lamb with Pea and Leek Stuffing. Absolutely delicious. We were able to take our own bottle of wine too. The 5' bed was very comfortable and the room itself has been tastefully and thoughtfully furnished with an experienced, co-ordinated touch. Very restful and comfortable. There is a TV and a small sofa for cosy evenings in and they even have an alarm clock with speakers for an iPod connection. (In case you are not wanting totally tranquility be aware that in our room the WiFi connection was intermittent at best and the Mobile Signal from our room was non-existent - not that we minded particularly as we were there to escape all that!) The bathroom is modern and stylish with an overhead shower and the attention to detail is wonderful yet again with bubblebath and fluffy white towels provided. The Breakfasts are fabulous .... a choice of fruit juices, cereals and fresh fruit followed by a Full English - which Ken cooks really well. You can even watch the birds and squirrels on the bird table and feeders while breakfasting! The garden is pretty and exceptionally well cared for (I think Sue is out there gardening nearly every day) and they also have a further 10 acres of more natural grounds which was great for walking Megan (our dog) before breakfast! They have their own chickens and ducks so the breakfast eggs were really fresh! The attention to detail everywhere is exceptional ... all the tableware is matching and pristine - and the tables are always thoughtfully laid out for each meal. The furniture and furnishings are immaculate and quite frankly the house could easily be an advert for one of the upmarket Homes and Gardens magazines. On the day we had a little sunshine there was even a parasol and seat cushions provided outside on our little patio area! All in all - a great stay and I'm sure we will be going back. One small word of caution though - if you are a nervous driver it isn't an easy place to get to as the country lanes are quite narrow and twisty! But if you are looking for a bit of heaven in a place of peace and tranquility - then this is the place for you. We HIGHLY recommend it.

Room Tip: If you have a small well behaved dog then you'll be in the room above the garage which is deligh...

Your comprehensive review of out Bed and Breakfast details all the little extras we take pleasure in providing and we are grateful to you for taking the time and effort to share your findings.
Like you, other guests have also remarked that Fingle suite is ideal if accompanied by a pet as it is adjacent to the main cottage but has its own gated entrance and is quite private.
