Returned on Friday from a 5 day coach holiday with Shearings and what a great time all had..its hard to say bad things about a Hotel when you have had 4 nights bed breakfast and evening meal, all of which i honestly can say where very enjoyable, superb service and organised in time delayed shifts so the restauraunt was never heaving and noisey...quality coach transport through out, excursions to Newcastle,Hexam and Hadrians wall...free use of a nice size pool that was clean and warm,a Jaccuzi, steam room and sauna that where all working, for £99 !!!!! oh and i forgot to mention we also had £25 in hotel spend..so £74....amazing...although after i had been discussing this with someone i walked past the reception and heard a conversation where the receptionist was taking a booking and he said to the person booking it was £90 A NIGHT !!! and £40 extra for something, possibly an upgraded room maybe, not sure what...so for the price i paid via Shearings i would have to me deranged to say anything poor....now if i had paid £90 a night i would say that the Hot water in the bathroom was possibly dangerous it became so hot so quick...as you sat on the toilet the two floor tiles where your left foot was positioned was cracked/smashed into possibly 50 pieces and a possible danger, the whole left side of the toilet was badly layed and needed something as little as an extra layer of vinal to lift it up...we where in Room 101which was at the back of the Hotel and perfect for anyone who couldnt manage steps as there was none, through the main door and straight to our front door, while it was a maze of corridors to get to reception, which did take a while to get it right we found it twice as quick and twice as short to go out the back main door and walk round the hotel to the front entrance...im serious and not kidding....it was a twin bedded room and the beds firm but very comfortable,no river view out of window but no noise from the hotel either which was better... im not sure what the reviewers one or two back meant about not near bus stops as they are no more then 250 yards from the car park entrance...one direction to Hexam where buses to many destinations went, hexam being less then 5 miles away...and buses in the other direction to some sleepy village every two hours...buses to Hexam where not much more frequent but easy enough if you planned...accross the road from the Hotel was a cafe, very clean, probably ten or twelve tables, superb food and good portions at a decent price...the hotel did food at luchtimes too but i liked the cafe as felt open and a good feel to it...as mentioned by a previous reviewer the walk to the Spa from the Hotel while being under cover was very cold but dry...the Spa did have its faults if i had been a paying customer,in the mens changeing room half the lockers didnt work and in the Ladies apparently it was even worse...one thing we found was it was adviseable to get advanced info when it was mothers and baby mornings in the pool as although you was allowed in it did hamper things a bit but we didnt mind as good to see you ones leaning to swim and laughing out loud and having fun...is is Winter time so the gardens where as you would expect but still better then none, and as you was next to the river there was beautiful river views and picturesque views of the triple arched road bridge...all in all we had a wonderful stay,we went for a much needed rest so didnt go on any of the free excursions although we did catch the service bus to Hexam which is a lovely place..we go on Shearings and others coach holidays as they are cheap and could never afford £90 a night so hard for me to say if £90 a night is good or bad .....But £99 and £25 free booze at the bar was Bloody Marvelous Value...i would definatly recommend others to go on the coach trip there as the best all round experience we have had yet...if you want to hear the most polite Geordie you ever heard he serves in the restauraunt,at a distance we thought it sounded like an experienced middle aged waiter from Downton Abbey with his "please can i" "thank you sir" "is everything all right sir" ect ect...and then when he came close he cant be more then 20..it was so funny...all the staff where brilliant and helpful at all times...ive just been reminded while looking sideways at someone saying how noisey their bathroom fan was....we didnt have a bathroom fan !! and the window in the bathroom or in the bedroom couldn't be opened,we tried all manner of ways but they gave no impression of opening,i should have asked but never...but definatly no bathroom fan which is odd...lastly the internet...this was only available around reception area and it was "cloud" and it was awfully slow...for business purposes it would be very frustrating....
