If your pallet extends to Iceland frozen specials and microwaved vegetables then this is the place for you! The hotel cafe sorry restaurant (and I use the word very loosely) has no atmosphere and is absolute chaos. Lots of staff who spend most of their time walking backwards and forwards to the till to get u to sign a bit of paper to say you have ordered your food or drink. Can't imagine if we decided to pay by cash how many trips we would have to make to the bar. Order a bottle of wine after you have had to ask ( for those that hate upsell you will love this place) then expect to wait and wait and wait. This place is 3663 heaven!! Such a pity as the place has a lot of charm.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I would like to state that we never have or will use Iceland as a provider for our restaurant diners. We do have a policy that if you charge something to your room that we require a signature as do nearly all hotels. If you were paying by cash however you would be directed to the bar at the end of your meal to pay.
I would like to ask future guests to read the other comments regarding the restaurant staff before you take this one into consideration.
Once again thank you for your review.

It is such a shame that the room was in dire need of refurbishment as were some of the public areas because the location was perfect. The door from the garden to the leisure facilities was hanging on one hinge and needed painting, our room had marked and damaged decor and furniture, the curtains were mouldy. Even the towels were ancient with fraying edges.
On a positive note the breakfast choice was great and the hot food was hot! The reception staff were helpful and even helped us with our cases.
Apparently some of the rooms have been refurbished but ours wasn't! I hope that the refurbishment will continue swiftly so it can match its location! Hadrian's Wall is only a short drive / walk from the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has been refurbished!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am sorry that your accomodation was not up to your expectations. I have Housekeeping looking for the mouldy curtains as we speak and they will be replaced immediately when found. I have passed your comments regarding the towels on to the laundry supplier that we use and have passed the maintenance comments to the Maintenance Manager. We are in the process of refurbishing rooms and they should hopefully be completed by the end of next year. Once again thank you for your review.

This hotel is on the Hadrian's Wall walk itself. It is in an idyllic location too, very quaint, perfect riverside location, gorgeous garden and our favourite along the walk overall. Staff were lovely too and very helpful.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are glad you enjoyed our hotel. We are indeed a perfect stop over for walkers of the wall and we are just a few minutes walk from Chesters Roman Fort too. Once again thank you for your review.

Start with the pros- lovely position, willing, friendly Eastern European staff
The cons- poor cooking, poor management, disorganised, more suited to dealing with organised bus tours than the individual traveller. We were overcharged a nights accommodation twice a month ago and 3 phone calls and 2 emails later we are still waiting for a refund although they admitted they had overcharged us by £180. Money was deducted from our credit card with no bill to justify it. Rude dismissive receptionist on our arrival when we could find her!

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, we are sorry that you had issues with your bill. This was down to the fact that the check out procedures were not followed properly. This issue was resolved before your review so you are aware of the compensation that we also gave you.
We would like to ask all guests to please check out reception on departure even if you are certain there is not anything on your bill we still like to take the key and check that everything was okay with your stay.

We checked the trip advisor reviews before setting out they did not give a good impression. When we arrived we were greeted by a very polite receptionist (Vikki) who had helped us when I had phoned about the the above reviews. Our room had been fully refurbished and decorated and was one of the best we have had over many years with this holiday group throughout the years. The overall decor of the hotel was good especially the dining room with its marvelous views over the the garden and North Tyne River. Usually a hotel is only as good as its staff and the staff could not do enough for us especially the waiters etc who were excellent as was the food. If you wished anything of anyone you simply asked and nothing was too much bother. It is evident that a lot of work has been done at this hotel to improve it and certainly is very apparent. We hope this gives a fairer impression of the hotel as we would certainly return.

Room Tip: Choose one with view over river and garden

wow, thank you so much for such a honest and positive review. The management team and all of the department teams will be thrilled to hear your kind words and it is a nice reward for the hard work they have been putting in. We do not have a Vicki at the hotel but I believe you may mean Niki who is indeed very polite and helpful. For any future visitors who wish to know some information about the local area Niki is the one! Once again thank you for your review and we hope to see you in the future back at the George.

We stayed here for two nights. Had a room with an amazing view of bridge, river and garden. Comfortable and clean. Yes a little bit dated but good size and well equipped. Staff at breakfast were lovely and full of enthusiasm about our attempt to walk Hadrians wall . Estzer was a lovely waitress. We used the pool, sauna, steam and Jacuzzi. All lovely and hot. We didn't use the changing rooms or showers as we went back to our rooms so can't comment about them. Breakfast was good. Top ups of tea and toast repeatedly offered. Garden was not like described below. It was neat and well tended. We even saw some Bunny Rabbits early in the morning.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking bridge and river.

When I arrived , I waiting around 20 mins for someone, anyone to appear at the desk. Eventually , I was served by someone who had a rather abusive tone. I decided to use the swim and gym area.

The gym area lacks any air conditioning, a sauna in itself, with dated equipment however, you can still use it all.

The swimming pool, my wife, described the ladies as horrendous. Toilet paper thrown all over the floor, heaps of it, where it looked as if someone had tried to clean up some urine. The ladies changing rooms were dated, and needed fixing, the lights, cubicles, lockers that had holes in or you could not lock. The showers, one door was broken and the other dribbled much like a Hose! I do say, the mens were in a better state however, we decided to take a shower in at home instead of in this dirty area. The jacuzzi was bliss, well done, however, the whole area is so dated and the bar to climb into the jacuzzi is dangerously wobbly. Such a hazard.

Thank you for your review as a leisure club non staying guest. We are sorry that there was no one at the reception when you arrived to use the facilities. 20 minutes is an extremely long time and something that should never happen so I shall investigate this.
We do regular spot checks and cleaning in the leisure facilities through out the day, as the facilities are unmanned it can be hard to control what people get up to in the changing rooms. This problem was cleaned up as soon as we were aware. The handrail for the jacuzzi has been tightened and the issues in the changing rooms have been addressed. once again thank you for your review
