“Great vacation”
Reviewed 15 October 2011

We had a great time at the Iberostar Grand. We have stayed at a number of high rated hotels in the Caribbean and were looking for a luxury all inclusive for a quick getaway with friends. We found what we were looking for at the Grand! The hotel is very close to the airport, so you don't have to waste a long time in the car getting there. You can walk to the other Iberostar properties - we did that and took a ride around the lazy river at the Suites. The property is not too large but not too small. The rooms are fantastic. The grounds are immaculate. The food was very good. We ate at the Japanese, Italian and Surf and Turf restaurants. The staff is great and they make you feel very special. We really liked Mr. Kool, Sassy, Crazy Lucky, Frosted Flakes, T.O. and G. Money. The bartenders were great at all of the bars. The liquor is really top shelf - drinks were great. The beach was very clean, and so was the pool. They have great beds around the beach and pool area for relaxing. We will be back!!

The Vibe:
What a beautiful place! We spent a week there to celebrate my 40th bday and it was definitely worth the time! The grounds were kept beautiful with daily manicures and the pools, towels and chairs always had a fresh appearance to them. Everyone was very laid back and friendly.

The Food:
Really nice restaurants! Tried something new for breakfast each day, and at night we wanted less of a formal feel so we ate each time at the buffet-styled restaurants -- great selections and we were never bored with the choice of foods -- more spice would've been nice, but it was fine...room service is great and timely if you decide to stay in!

The Staff: these folks went out of their way everyday, all day to get people involved in activities -- sometimes a bit over the top, but it was with all good intention. If you are in the pool areas or beach, you will be met with a flurry of greetings and hand shakes from the 'team'...multiple times during the day....the only 'safety zones' seemed to be where people were eating -- and all these places had great wine selections so it was a nice place to hide :)

The Night Life:
The Piano Bar was a great place to catch up and/or meet new people and the bar staff will keep you entertained with stories and special drinks -- stay hydrated! There were a variety of dance and music shows during the week each evening, but we passed on most of them -- really wanted to just take advantage of quiet moments when possible.

The Room:
The room was beautiful! Fully-stocked mini-bar with top-shelf goodies re-filled daily, Jacuzzi bath tub, over-sized shower head and more fluffy towels than I could use -- I couldn't ask for anything more. The Ocean Front view was nice, but we spent most of the day looking at the ocean from the pool....but thank you!

Overall:
We will definitely be re-visiting...hope to see some our new friends again :-)

- Ray

We stayed at Iberostar Grand Rose Hall from 4 to 11 Oct 2011.

The Grands have become our favorite resort having now been to Iberostar Grand Paraiso and IG Bavaro. We try to visit adult only resorts. We tend to prefer larger resorts so we can get some walking in and we prefer to spend our days on the beach so we try to find resorts with nicer beaches beyond that we are pretty easy going. Some resorts we have been to recently outside Jamaica are Excellence Punta Cana (EPC) and Zoetry in Punta Cana; Excellence Playa Mujeres (EPM), Secrets Maroma and Le Blanc in Mexico.

So for those of you that want the summary without detail comparing this resort to the others we have visited in Jamaica: Sandals Whitehouse, Couples Swept Away, Jewell Dunns River and Grand Lido this is definitely the one we enjoyed the most. We thought the food and service was best at the Grand. Obviously the resorts in Negril have a better beach but this beach served the purpose for the week.

Room: We arrived around 2 and were told they were looking for an upgraded room since we were repeat customers. We grabbed some lunch and when we went back an hour later we were escorted to our room. 5331 ocean front and very nice. The bath is similar to Paraiso with his and her sinks. In the middle is a jetted tub and on one side of the bath a shower the other a toilet. Very nice large bathroom. There is also his and her closet space and ample shelves and drawers. The room was equally spacious and nice. IGB rooms are much smaller. At the far end of the room, down one step is a sitting area with a table/desk and couch. Beyond that sliding doors to a large deck area furnished with a couch, basket chair, couple of tables and ceiling fan. The room is well lit if you can find all the switches. Chips and nachos are the only snacks provided. Both red and white wine, beer, juices, shot size alcohol and water are provided in the fridge. There is a pillow menu. Slippers and housecoats are also in the room. The air conditioner worked well, and there was plenty of pressure in the shower and hot water. The internet in the room is wired and a password is required which we got from the concierge.

Butler: Once escorted to our room we were informed our butler would come shortly so we decided to start unpacking while we waited. We were finished unpacking and probably more than 45 minutes later and still no butler so we went in search of the concierge to make reservations for dinner. The next day the person giving out towels asked if our butler was filling our needs and we informed her we had not seen a butler. She asked if we had any requests and we told her we would appreciate a bottle of white wine in the room around 4PM. This did not happen so we requested a bottle by room service. Fri morning (arrived on Tues) as we were leaving our room our butler arrived. He introduced himself and asked if we got the bottle of wine on Wed, we told him no. He also asked if we needed him to do anything for us suggesting ironing, polishing shoes etc. we asked for a bottle of wine again and this time received it. We really are easy going and self sufficient so the whole butler thing was not a big deal for us. We were pleasantly surprised to return to our room on our anniversary and have a rose petal bath and champagne awaiting us.

Dinner reservations: Our date of arrival the only time available for dinner reservations were 9. Since we had traveled all day and were tired we didn’t think we could last till nine so opted for the buffet. This was disappointing as we HATE buffet dinners. We did manage to make reservations for the four a la cartes on upcoming nights. The timings are 6:30, 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00. We usually make our reservations for 7:30 but this was not one of the scheduled timings. On both Thurs and Sat the only a la carte available was the Italian and the Italian was only available on Thurs at 6:30 or 8:30, too early and too late for us. This was probably the one big irritant we had the whole week. We understand closing restaurants when occupancy is low but if you than cannot get a decent time to eat it should be adjusted by the resort. There are still a ton a tables available so maybe more staff could be put on to accommodate the obviously most popular 7:00 timing. We went for one meal at the Suites to get out of a 6:30 reservation here and tried to get out of another but the Suites only had one restaurant open and the only times were 6:30 and 8:30. We don’t remember reservations ever being as difficult as they were here this trip. If this is going to be an issue for you I suggest emailing ahead for advance reservations.

Grounds: The resort is quite compact as are the other two attached resorts we are given access to. Since all three of these resorts are horseshoe shaped there is not much walking throughout the resort areas. We missed the beautiful, spacious walking the other two Grands offered. Even the beach did not offer more than a 10 min walk from end to end.

Beach: The beach was surprising nice. Watershoes were not required. The seaweed areas are very visible and easy to avoid. There is enough clear water to splash and play around in and cool off. Throughout the day we were asked regularly if we required anything. The chairs at the beach lay flat and both shade and sun were easy to find.

Occupancy: The first couple days we were told there were 150 guests. As we walked around the other resorts the employees were begging for customers as they were also very low occupancy. Chairs and service were not a problem with such few guests. But the a la cartes timings were still a problem so I can’t imagine how it would be at prime time.

Pools: We didn’t spend anytime at the pool but again with the low occupancy chairs sun or shade were not a problem. We did not see floats provided.

Bugs: There were wasps around the pool area and quite a few ants but we were never bothered by any kind of bug.

Housekeeping: Our room was thoroughly cleaned everyday. Fresh towels were provided daily including face cloths. All of the amenities and drinks were refilled daily if required. We had turn down every night with chocolates being provided. We never received a schedule of events in our room but there were boards throughout announcing events.

Bar Staff: We found the service was quick at all the bars and the drinks were good. Grey Goose and other top brand alcohol are served when requested.

Smoking: All of the enclosed areas are smoke free but we inhaled second hand smoke on the beach.

Weather: The days were very hot and humid with thunderstorms and rain moving in the late afternoon. To get to most of the nighttime restaurants and shows it is not required to go outside this was a good time to have rain. We had one full day of sprinkling but it was still possible to stay out under a hut and not get wet.

Gym and Spa: Did not visit either.

Breakfast: The breakfast buffet had most everything one could want. There was a large selection of donuts, cakes, cookies and other dessert type foods. We found the service very good every morning. We never had to wait for coffee, which was a little thermos with a smaller thermos of milk. OJ and water were brought quickly and refilled. There is also a menu available on the tables but we did not order anything from it.

Lunch: We ate mainly at the buffet. We did not see any lobster the first two days and found the buffet up until that point a little boring as the options were limited. From that point on the options seemed to get a little better and we could find something to eat for lunch.

Dinners: All of our dinners were above average. The restaurants offer lots of lobster, shrimp, scallops and steak. The service was very good and wine was poured as required. Each course was served in a timely manner. Some portions were small but adequate.

Entertainment: We managed to get to a few of the shows and were impressed with what we saw. A couple nights the entertainment in the lobby bar was below par and a couple nights quite good.

Star Friends: At first we found them bothersome. We like to be by ourselves during the day quietly reading and splashing. We found it intrusive to constantly have someone asking us how things were going and trying to strum up idle chatter. As the week went on they seemed to leave us alone more and we found we did enjoy chatting with them in the evenings at the lobby bar prior to the show. Two Star Friends we especially enjoyed were Samantha and Davida.

Conclusion: This has confirmed The Grands meet more of our needs than any other chain we have visited with Excellence and Secrets tying for second place. We are already booked for our first repeat trip ever to Iberostar Grand Bavaro in Punta Cana in Jan and looking forward to visiting another Grand on the beautiful Bavaro Beach.

My wife and I just got back from the Grand Rose Hall after spending our honeymoon October 2nd-9th. I had very high expectations for this hotel based off of previous reviews, and I must say that it did not disappoint, and actually exceeded those expectations! Upon arrival, we were met with cool towels and a welcome drink, and were upgraded to on ocean front suite. Our view was incredible. The amenities in the room were fantastic, and our mini-bar was restocked every day. Our butlers, Stanley and Marvin, took tremendous care of us and catered to every need and want. Room service was fantastic as well. The pools were very nice, and we enjoyed some great times at the swim up bar. The bartenders in there, Garfield, Kerry, and Maxwell were very friendly and entertaining and took great care of us. The restaurants were great as well, and we had an especially great meal at the Japanese restaurant thanks to our hibachi chef Damian who provided amazing food and plenty of entertainment. The star friends were great as well - shout out to Lucky, Samantha, T.O, Ryan, and Sas-O-Fras.

We also went on some excursions - the Black River Safari and Y.S. Falls were great, and the views were spectacular. We also went to Dunns River Falls, which is a MUST DO when travelling to Jamaica.

All in all - this is a five star resort with five star service, and I'd recommend Grand Rose Hall to anyone!

My husband and I stayed at the Grand in the middle of September for our honeymoon. From the minute we arrived we were so amazed at the beauty of the resort and the island itself. Then we were upgraded to a beautiful ocean view suite because it was our honeymoon. Our butler met us in our room and brought us wine and lunch. The butler brought us a pillow menu to pick out the pillows we wanted, so we picked one of each and we slept so well every night!! We loved the restaurants, especially the Japanese and Surf and Turf we literally ate like a 300$ meal at both , the food was just amazing! We also had room service many times and the food was also very good. Only bad thing no one told us there was a breakfast buffet just that you fill out this little card on your door for room service, well one day I didn't want room service and assumed the breakfast buffet was were the lunch buffet was, but no it was empty and there was like no one around to ask. Later in the day I find out its in a whole other area so I was a little irritated by that. The pools are gorgeous, the beach beautiful and so secluded when we were there, many time we were the only ones in the ocean. All of the staff are great but like everyone has said you have to be sure to have $$ for tipping. Garfield at the pool bar is great and the lobby bar has some of the greatest drinks around from the wonderful two bartenders there. All of the entertainment staff is very nice and genuinely try and get you to participate in their games. My husband and I loved that the suites hotel was connected and we frequented the casino, club and shops over there also. We booked a couple of excursions with the lady in the lobby and they were nice, if a bit over priced but we enjoyed the resort so much that we were happy to stay there and enjoy our room w/ its lovely porch and swing. Each night the lobby had some sort of entertainment or you could go and see the show. We loved every minute and cannot wait to go back!

We stayed at the Grand Palladium in Jamaica two years ago and it was mediocre at best. Hesitant about coming back to Jamaica, we were pleasantly surprised at the Iberostar Grand. I think the difference is the impeccable level of professionalism. The staff introduce themselves, educate you on the property and what's available and proactively offer help.

We have been too many 5 stars before we hadn't quite found the total package, but for us, this is it. We are not beach people however found ourselves taking long walks on the private beach at least twice a day. We rarely swim in the ocean yet found ourselves swimming 3 and 4 times a day. We would see people in the water all day. The beach is fine sand, well groomed and shallow. The first week of October 2011, the water must have been 90 degrees. The fish come right up to you and swim in and out of your legs. We often fed the fish and saw 2 sting rays, a star fish, baby gar (needle nose fish) and some other small fish as we stood knee deep in the water. Many people were snorkelling off the beach. There were reclining chairs as well as 5 wicker double sized beds out on the beach. The water was calm and clear, warm and sandy. You could walk out 40 feet and only be up to your chest. It was picture perfect.

The rooms were spacious and the balconies were a perfect place to relax on their own. The bathroom had lots of space with two vanities, his & hers robes, big Jacuzzi tub, glass shower. The rooms are spacious with modern decor. I loved the balcony - beautiful ocean view, big wicker chez lounger, swinging chair. A perfect spot to have coffee in the morning, read a book or in our case, watch the 30 minute afternoon rain shower. There were two big closets, lots of storage, a fully loaded fridge and our butler usually had ice waiting for us before our dinner reservations.

Donovan was our butler and he was fantastic! He booked all our dinner reservations, the fridge wasn't cold, he called and had it fixed, he ran us a rose peddle bubble bath, offered to arrange breakfast in bed, he brought us ice, again excellent professionalism and first class service.

Around the pool are wicker double bed loungers with and without canopies. It is honestly like lying in bed all day but you are outside. They come around often offering drinks and bottled water so you never actually have to get up :) The pool is warm with an infinity pool closest to the ocean. The place is tranquil, peaceful and yet if you are looking for more excitement, the Beach and the Suites are only a short walk away. This is the perfect place to decompress and truly unwind.

Our favourite restaurant was the surf and turf. All in all, I would say the buffets were the best food. We love Jamaican food and they do this exceptionally well. Lots of curry's, jerk, fresh fish, fruit, veg, lots of variety - trust me when I say, you don't starve!

The evening entertainment was mixed. The Jamaican night was the best by far. They lip sinked Chicago which was disappointing. We didn’t check out the other hotels night life expect the Disco which was very fun!

A couple of mentions: Keveryn helped us with our bags, gave us a brief tour as he took us up to our room and his orientation and helped us on our way out which was greatly appreciated. He was professional, friendly and just an absolute doll!

Shevanie at the front desk took good care of us and was fast & efficient.

We did spend some time at the lobby bar where Jerry, Morris Day and Morrison always remembered our names, our drinks and kept us entertained. Every bar had top shelf liquor which was important to us. These 3 gentlemen exemplify service.

All in all, it was a fabulous trip and again, if you are a beach person, this is the best beach we have every been too. It was truly the perfect vacation.

Room Tip: Rooms ending in 26 thru 33 all face the ocean and would be th prime rooms

Me and my husband stayed here for the 2nd time for 1 week at this superb hotel.
The hotel interior is so beautiful and our whole holiday experience was just amazing and we shall indeed be returning next year because of such a great service and fabulous staff that work there.
We arrived at the hotel to be greated with a cold beverage as we checked in by Bar waitress 'jodene'who always has a beautiful smile- and the hotel reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We were escorted by bell boy 'Marvin' who was really lovely and helpful and he showed us around our beautiful room, which was very spacious, lovely decoration, large jacuzzi hot tub and a sink area each. There is a mini bar in your room which is stocked daily with red stripe, soft drinks, spirits, wines, and snacks. If you need anything more just ask, its not a problem. The rooms were very clean and i cannot fault anybody.
The pool is sepeared into 3 parts, one has a swim up bar. The fantastic staff working on the swim up bar- some to mention- 'Vaughn, Garfield, Kelly, Maxwell' and also waitresses 'jodene and kennesha' were always friendly, provided 100% service, and would make any cocktail you wished for- great selection of drinks. Such lovely people.
The beach was absolutley georgeous, spotlessly clean, and the sea lovely and warm to swim in. Good selection of activities to do, and the star friends were great fun.
The food was fantastic, excellent choice in buffet restaurants breakfast, lunch and evening. Again all staff provide excellent service. The restaurants were brilliant, they have a japenese which i would highly reccommend- you can choose either teppenyaki or gourmet dining for 2. They have Italian, Gourmet, or surf and turf which cook you lovely big steaks. Our waiter quite often was 'Sanjay' and he was always so friendly, and provided excellent service. All other staff are so lovely to- but i forget everybodys names. You also have the option of dining at other restaurants on 2 other resorts next door- the beaches and suites. There is a 24 hour room service if you want snacks- and the food quality is fantastic.
Having a drink around the lobby bar was so fun day time and evening.- with the great friendly attitude of the staff- nothing was a problem for them. 'Morrison was so fun in the evening- and we loved listening to him singing with his guitar. Other bar staff which i think certainly need to be mentioned for there fantastic service, and we loved to get to know and speak to are 'Clive, Vaughn, Morris, Morrison, Carina, Denita, Tamika, and Cassandra' and also in the cigar lounge- 'Christopher and Errol'. They are such great people and an asset to this hotel.
We used the gym twice during our trip- good modern equipment, an instructer there to assist at all times, and Tammika looked after us as there is a small bar in the gym providing juices, and bottles of water and fruit,
The theatre interior is beautiful and some great shows. In the lobby area which is where we spent most of our time enjoying the company of the staff listed above, they have pianoists, and singers- which we loved to listen to.
It is because of these friendly fantastic staff this hotel has and the service provided that we both will definately be returning for hopefully longer than 1 week next year.
We booked a chukka horse riding experience excursion whilst we were there which i would certainly reccommend to anybody- great fun day.
We miss everything about this hotel, and never wanted to come home. The best hotel we have ever stayed and hope to return very soon.
