Absolutely terrific stay. Staff and management were all very attentive and friendly. From the moment you check in, the resort greats you with friendly faces, a cool towel, and delicious mimosa to drink! Everyone we met seemed to take a personal interest in ensuring we were having a great stay and many staff members learned our names while we were staying there -- some even remembered our names the second time we met them!

The rooms are great. They are large and furnished very comfortably. They are not extravagantly decorated or anything crazy, but that is by no means a bad thing -- it's a good thing. The entire time you are here (in your room, at the bar, at the buffet, at a restaurant) you feel like you're home -- not like you're a guest in someone else's house.

The entire trip, I don't believe we had a single staff member tell us the word "no" (except for the frequent "No problem, mon!") nor did we encounter any staff that were less than enthusiastic every time we spoke with them. Again, the level of personalization that this resort provides is simply unmatched by any location I have ever visited.

For my wife and I, the most important aspect of an all-inclusive stay is the food and let me assure you that food is one area this resort excels in! Everything we ate was delicious regardless of whether it was at one of the buffets or one of the theme restaurants. The buffet has a wide array of well-cooked, gourmet food (smoked salmon, caviar, kobe beef burgers, steaks, the list goes on) and much of this same food is available for 24/7 room service that is also included in your stay. The resort also offers the ability to pre-order room service breakfast the night before by filling out a card in the room and placing it on your door. We did this one morning and the food arrived exactly as ordered! Also, make sure you dine at least once at the Japanese Restaurant and request Jason as your chef. He put on the best "show cooking" experience I've ever taken part in. Though tipping is not required ANYWHERE here, all the staff appreciates it and an extra $5-$10 may lead to some extra raps from Jason.

Bars are all stocked well w/ strong, top shelf drinks. At the pool bar, Wesley is amazing and will keep the good times coming all day. Be sure to ask him to make you his famous "Jamaican Smile" -- this was my wife's absolute favorite.

Bottom line: This is a great resort and we had a great honeymoon. We couldn't have asked for anything more and will be back soon!

Reviewed 13 June 2014

My husband and I traveled to Montego Bay and stayed at Iberostar Grand Rose Hall at the end of March/beginning of April 2014 for one week. The trip was put together by Mitch from TripGuy.com and he responded quickly, got a great price and was an excellent resource only an e-mail away. He helped arrange Reggae Tours for our transfer service and I would recommend them, too! This trip was aimed at re-charging our batteries and trying to just relax so we didn't leave the resort. We had a great trip, although some things were below my expectations. This is still a fabulous hotel- however, I think it may be better suited for long weekends than for longer stays.

I've broken down my review into pros and cons--I'll start with the cons so you'll finish with all of the pros:

CONS
-We had to get up early to get a chair with shade by the pool; but you could get chairs on the beach with shade most of the time. My husband had recently had skin cancer removed so we NEEDED shade. I wish I could say that we were able to sleep late, walk out and choose from an array of chairs that would provide shade. But this was not the case.
-Lack of chairs with shade - They should get umbrellas for every couple of chairs that you could open or close throughout the day, that way everyone would have the opportunity for shade or none according to their preference.
-There were multiple instances of a single person reserving 12 chairs by the pool for members of their corporate group who didn't show up for hours.
-There were too many corporate groups - I think there were 4 over our weeklong stay. Corporate groups change the dynamic of an adults-only hotel. You think "adults-only" and you think there will be mainly couples and honeymooners. Then you realize adults-only means you have to be over the age of 18 to stay there. Iberostar is aiming for those corporate groups to help pay the bills in this economy. There were many instances of the groups getting preferential treatment, not having to follow the rules, closing down restaurants, etc.
-Lobby bar, shops, game room and theater didn't have good air-conditioning and were HOT!
-Pool bar area wasn't tidy behind the bar, didn't always have top-shelf liquors and mixers were sugary, pre-made syrups
-None of the bars had limes! No ginger ale or ginger beer!
-Pool bar offers no snacks. It would be nice if they offered chips and salsa, guacamole, chicken satay, fruit, cold sandwiches/wraps, and other snacks that could be delivered to chairs by the pool and on the beach.
-Our oceanfront room needed deep clean and the paint needed to be touched up in several places.
-Wi-Fi only worked by pool, not in rooms and only occasionally in the lobby
-Pool bar closes promptly at 6pm - it would be an awesome addition to add a Beach Shack bar for snacks/coffee/drinks that was open from 8am-midnight.
-Iberostar staff not enforcing dress code (Men were eating at the Surf and Turf in t-shirts, shorts and flip flops. When I asked staff if the dress code had changed, they simply said that some people refuse to follow the rules. ???)
-Lack of a manager presence-- at other Iberostar properties, managers would come and introduce themselves early into the trip and ask that you let them know if they can better serve you. They will greet you by name when they see you again and are really welcoming. We didn't see any of this at this hotel.
-Iberostar doesn't treat their loyal customers any differently than first timers. This was our 4th stay at a Caribbean Iberostar Grand Hotel and when we arrived there was no mention of this. We did get a kind, "Welcome back" at the front desk but there wasn't any letter or anything in our room. I mentioned this to the butler at noon and that evening at 10 pm, while we were asleep, they brought some dessert and a bottle of wine (even though the DO NOT DISTURB sign was on the door.) There should be some sort of loyalty program or at least acknowledgement on Iberostar's part for customers like us who have spent TENS of THOUSANDS of dollars at their hotels over the last few years.

PROS
-The front desk staff (Barrington) surprised us by putting us in the same room we stayed in on our last trip to IBGRH
-Star Friends are great. We enjoyed playing bocce and tie-dying t-shirts.
-There are games and books in the towel hut next to the pool; even more at the Suites next door.
-Sunscreen is provided - individual bottles of Hawaiian Tropic - from oils all the way up to 50 SPF
-Our butler, Kevin, going out of his way helping me decorate the room for my husband's birthday was a highlight. Kevin is a great butler and a true gentleman and outstanding member of the Iberostar staff.
-Smiling, friendly staff
-Making new friends with other guests... We made buddies with people from all over Canada to New York to Indiana to the UK!
-Prompt room service - ordered breakfast; bottles of Sauvignon Blanc with cheese tray and crackers
-The reggae band playing by the pool a couple of nights starting at 7pm was a nice touch. Great addition!
-Beach party was a lot of fun - There were games and a performance by a local dance troupe.
-The addition of the Jamaican Restaurant - its setting was in the open air on the beach and such delicious food was on offer. The halibut was awesome.
-Chefs grill most days by the pool for lunch. They'd offer things like chicken, shrimp, lobster tails and butter with salads... It's so much better than the buffet!
-Ice cream station by the pool bar was a treat. Coconut ice cream!
-Food was good for the most part in the restaurants-- Surf & Turf was our favorite. I appreciated the tasty salads and sides of asparagus.
-We enjoyed getting buckets of bottled water and morning drinks (Arnold Palmers) by the pool from the sweet pool waitresses.
-Taking walks to the other end of the property and looking at the fish at the end of the dock in front of the Beach hotel was a highlight.
-Spending one afternoon in the pool bar and watching the Magic Carpet Show... It's fun and light-hearted.
-Belvedere vodka was available at the pool bar. We just had to ask for it.
-One of my favorite things to do was to come in from the pool or beach, order a bottle of wine and a cheese tray, and hop into the shower. By the time I was dressed, the wine would have been delivered and my husband and I would take our iPhone onto the deck and turn on our favorite music, move the couch in front of the view, and watch the ocean as the sun went down while enjoying our wine and cheese. Moments like this made our trip..

What can one say - come and see it for yourself.Adults only - butlers are 5 star, room service is 24hr - and that is NY 24hr not Caribbean 24hr - pool concierge, front desk and entertainment.

Great rooms - gorgeous beaches and pools and plenty of time to spend with that special person in your life.

24-hour room service, gorgeous room, butler, day spa, and NO kids? This place is a definite must for couples looking to get away! Upon arrival we were given mimosas and wet towels! And they even have a "pillow menu" for the beds! Will definitely come back :-)!

What can one say after having the best trip ever. Well i will keep it short. Butlers are 5 star, pool concierge, front desk and entertainment. I was sick for the whole trip so i had to utilize room service more than i normally would. Let me just say i don't regret it one bit. The girl who answered the phone was very helpful she deserves a star Shantoi i think it was she couldn't be more professional in helping me with what ever. I was on the 63 floor and my butler was there right by me as well, he made some of my orders for me at one point. My hubbie just came and went i guess he knew i was in excellent hands. Hands down the place is excellent i would recommend all the way. Bit of advised tho the concierge service is really not needed. So just go through your butler or room service for anything that you need. The butlers are more than happy to help.. hope this helped

From start to finish, this is where to go if you're in need of pampering. At check-in they ask if you're there for a special occasion. If you are they will upgrade you, if possible, or take the time to search for the best possible room for you. They also deliver a surprise on the night you want to celebrate the event during your stay. We arrived hours before our room was to be ready, but had no wait, and instead of the single butler assigned to each room, we ended up with three, for around-the-clock attention — and Duran, Andre and Randy delivered. Each guest can order any one of 5 pillows to sleep on from their 'pillow menu," the in-room bar can be customized if you don't like the water, soft drinks or alcohol they stock it with initially, and room service is available 24/7. Avoid that if you can, because the variety of food at the 5 a la carte restaurants and the extensive buffets aren't to be missed. We tried all 5, but in the end, preferred the buffets for the ability to sample foods of so many cultures, including amazing tropical fruits at every meal. For atmosphere, the buffet on the beachfront is perfect for breakfast, and snack times, but the Cornwall, which is indoors, offers a more extensive spread — and some really helpful staff, including Annette and Kellisia. The pool area is beautiful, with a pool bar, a couple of infinity-edge sections, a towel bar that provides a variety of sunscreens and magazines, and lots of thatched umbrellas if you're a reader, or need to escape the tropical sun. No need to go to the bar, however, as servers constantly make the rounds, and a 'cake lady' comes every afternoon with some deletable sweet that she serves up around the entire pool area. The staff directs some afternoon pool games, but if that's not your style, you can choose from a host of other activities throughout the day, including bocce, yoga, darts, bingo, zumba, volleyball and others — and don't miss the nightly Vegas-style stage shows — they're great. The wicker swing on each room balcony is a great touch, as is the pull-out clothes hanger for wet suits. And you won't find nicer people than Jamaicans — we never passed a staff member in the hall, elevator, on the beach who didn't greet us. Overall, it was a great experience for our first all-inclusive — which, by the way, doesn't include tips, so be sure to keep your pockets stocked with $1s and $5s (American dollars are more than welcome, given the exchange rate.) We saw far too many guests not bothering to leave any at all. One last note: if you stay at the Grande, you have access to all the restaurants and activities at the other two adjoining Iberostar resorts, but those resorts, both of which allow kids, have no access to the Grande, which is adults only. But this is definitely a thumbs-up experience.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view facing the pool for the best of both worlds — the view and the fun!

My fiancé and I went on our honeymoon June 2-8. This resort met all of our expectations and then some. Food was great. The Japanese restaurant was our favorite though! The day activites were fun and the night shows were entertaining. Room was spacious and clean. Our butlers went above and beyond to make our honeymoon unforgettable. I would totally recommend this resort to anyone. Thanks Fayette from trip guy for hooking us up with a great resort! We will be returning!
