My husband and I stayed six nights this past March and cannot wait to book our next Iberostar vacation. Kellie Davis at Go Iberostar Vacations (http://www.goiberostar.com/) made booking the trip easy. Go Iberostar is friendly, knowledgeable and has the best prices. This is our second Iberostar vacation having stayed at Iberostar Paraiso Maya in Mexico a few years ago.
CHECK IN - fast, friendly, and upgraded upon arrival - it doesn't get better than that!
ROOM - HUGE! Pillow menu, his and her vanity, rain shower and jacuzzi tub. Ask the butler to draw a bath (you'll be glad you did)! Large balcony with love seat, swing and ceiling fan. The room has free internet but you need an ethernet cable. We brought our own, but your buttler can get you one.
ROOM SERVICE: Arrived within 45 mins every time.
BREAKFAST: My favorite meal of the day - featured an omelet station. Be sure to try the fresh fruit juices.
DINNER: Make reservations via email before you arrive, or right when you get to the hotel. The dining room is never more than half full, but they limit the number of reservations. Service is a bit slow at all the resturants. Italian was the great. The buffet was delightful since you could try a little bit of everything. The best dessert was the fried ice cream at the Surf and Turf. The Japanese restaurant was my least favorite. The show was entertaining, but the meat just didn't look right. We brought Imodium AD but didn't need it once. Ask for a wine list at dinner. There is a nice selection of wines that are included, but the waiters always push the house wine.
DRESS CODE: Men long pants, collared shirt. Women anything goes, but most wore dresses.
ENTERTAINMENT: Hotel lobby bar features local musicians every night. For a more lively night life, walk next door to the Suites. Be sure to catch the Beach Party night at the Suites - fantastic live music and dancing right on the beach!
SPA: The hotel includes free access to the the co-ed wellness pool and separate men's and woman's areas each with hot tubs, roman bath, sauna and steam room. I booked a massage (additional charge) with Juliet and it was so fantastic I booked another later in the week!
BEACH: Yes there is seaweed, but the hotel does a nice job of cleaning it up. The Grand beach is much nicer (cleaner with smoother sand) than the other beaches.
BEACH BATHROOM: The ladies bathroom sparkled it was so clean. The staff was constantly mopping up the floor and wiping the counters. According to my husband, the men's bathroom was dirty. There was a plumbing problem that needed attention.
WATER SPORTS: The kayaking was easy since the ocean waves were small. Catamaran sailing is also included (+$10 if you need a captian). For an additional fee you can try para-sailing or snorkeling.
BEACH SPORTS: The star friends organized activities all day long - ping pong, boccie ball, dance, aerobics and volleyball. Winners of the events receive t-shirts/hats.
POOLS: Sport pool (basketball), Infinity pool and swim up bar pool. Rarely more than a few people in each. Unlimited towels (instead of one per guest). We brought two small rafts from home which they inflated for us at the pool concierge.
My husband and I vacation about three times a year and this is by far our favorite hotel. If you are looking for a clean hotel with friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere you can't go wrong with Iberostar.
