We spent a week in July at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beaches resort in Montego Bay. We had a wonderful holiday with the exceptions of our 21 year old daughter experiencing her 1st allergic reaction to peanuts since identifying the allergy at 1 year old and how the resort management handled this incident. Although the resort staff appeared to be accustomed to accommodating guests with food allergies; this proved to be untrue in our case. The Guest Services department provided us with a letter for the à la carte restaurants and we met with a chef our first evening at the main buffet. This chef advised us where peanuts/ peanut butter (as well as her other allergens) may be present and told us clearly that no desserts contained peanuts when we asked. He was incorrect; the resort does serve peanut butter cookies. Fortunately our daughter was treated before experiencing an anaphylactic reaction (she experienced gastro and skin system symptoms); after several hours at the local hospital with a proficient physician, our daughter was fine. The next day we discovered another chef who did not know the ingredients of the resort's cookies. Only the executive chef appeared to be knowledgeable about the ingredients in the food served. The resort has not taken any responsibility for the incident. Their stand is that we were advised that our daughter should always show the letter before ingesting any food, which was not what the four of us, present during the discussion, heard. We were extremely disappointed to have received erroneous information, to have our daughter experience a reaction due to trusting the information provided and in the response of the resort management. Our advice to guests with food allergies is be aware you are taking risks if you visit this resort, as the information with which you are provided may be inaccurate.

Stayed: 12/21-12/24 for my honeymoon

Summary: Most of the staff is not very friendly, inattentive and disorganized. I will never stay here again and regret booking it for my honeymoon.

GOOD

Summary: the entertainment staff is energetic and friendly, bar staff was quick with the drinks.

BAD

Summary: Guest services and front desk staff were completely unhelpful.

Booking free excursions. Nearly impossible. The staff is uninformed and/or disorganized when it comes to providing information on how to book the free excursions included with your stay. Multiple trips to the front desk and guest services desk resulting in a long wait line multiple times, only to be told that *FREE* excursions must be *PAID* for at some other desk. They didn’t mention the free excursions/sports/things at all, and when asked, they indicated that the things mentioned on their website aren’t free (even though the website says it is). All-inclusive and free do not mean the same thing to this hotel as it does in a dictionary.
http://www.iberostar.com/en/hotels/montego-bay/iberostar-rose-hall-beach/eat-relax-enjoy

Making dinner reservations. You cannot call up days prior to your arrival to book dinner reservations - only after you have arrived. I called up to confirm that we would be arriving at the hotel at about 5pm, but wanted to book all of our dinner reservations upon arrival, including a reservation for our arrival night, and I was assured that we can do so. When we arrived, we discovered that the hotel was at capacity and that if we wanted to book our dinner reservations (after flying all day and driving from the airport, we were starving), we could stand in line with the excursions and reservations desk (just one person working) for over an hour to book our dinner reservations. We opted to eat the buffet, instead, and book everything the next day. The next day, we waited in line for 30 minutes in the morning, only to find out that all of the restaurants were booked for our entire trip.

Broken A/C. Our A/C was broken for 2 of the 3 days we stayed there. We called repeatedly to have them come fix it, and all the guy did was change out the filter. It mysteriously started working in the middle of the night on our 2nd night.

Broken refrigerator. Our mini-fridge was broken the entire time we were there, and there were ants in the fridge. We called EVERY DAY and asked the front desk staff to repair or replace it, but it never happened.

Restock room with water. We called each day to the front desk and spoke to the cleaning staff to ask that our water in our room be re-stocked. We never received additional water, even after being told “the guy is on his way now” multiple times.

Dear Guest,

The management and staff of Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Resort would like to thank you for choosing our hotel. The time taken to share your experience is also appreciated. We are remorseful to hear that you did not enjoy your vacation to the fullest. In regards to booking of non-motorized water sports which is included in the all-inclusive package, this is done at the Dive Center; Guest Service and Front Desk are well aware of this. Based on records this was explained to you by a Guest Service agent therefore my humble apologies are extended if you did not understand completely. The activities that you pointed out from our website, are the activities that our entertainment team organizes daily; but in no way excursion are included or mentioned in our website or services, as those are organized by external companies.
For excursions we have representatives on site that will assist with this. The Guest Service Desk handles dinner reservations booking and will also assist in contacting the Dive Center if a guest wish to make contact however direct booking of excursion is handle by the desk located next to the Guest Service Desk as well as by the tour room.

In regards to making dinner reservations we are truly sorry if you waited an extended amount of time, as the wait time is normally minimal. We make reservations in advance however this is only for large groups. In order to ensure that all our valued customers have the opportunity to dine at the a la carte restaurants reservations are booked based on the amount of nights you will be at the hotel; extra reservations can be done however this is based on availability. You were booked for 3 nights therefore it is possible that the early seats were taken as such our humble apologies are extended if your preferred seating time was not available; on the contrary as per our system there was a reservation booked at 7pm for you on December 23rd at our Steakhouse Restaurant. Our maintenance team works assiduously and each time an error is reported they work relentlessly to correct. The A/C will only function properly when all the doors are closed and the mini-bar is a cooler not a refrigerator. The mini bar is stocked every other day and also based on request therefore if you called multiple times and still you were not assisted; this is not acceptable and it is definitely not the service that we offer.

Iberostar is committed to offering excellent services and we hope your perception of our hotel was not tarnished. We are truly sorry that your vacation was hindered in such a way and we hope your past visit will not be the last one. Once again kindly accept our humble apologies and we hope we will have the opportunity to extend welcome to you again thereby allowing you to rediscover Iberostar and the excellent services that we truly offer.

I will keep this short and to the point. I am a frequent traveler and I would not recommend this place to ANYONE!
Main complaints included:
* Safety: Early on in the trip we questioned the demographics...not your typical vacationers and a lot of locals. We later found out from an employee that if you know someone at the hotel you can stay at the resort for five dollars a night and even if you don’t know anyone at the resort but you live in Jamaica you can stay for $49.00/night. We witnessed "guests" with no bracelets all around the resort. Further safety concerns included staff members drinking on the job and a constant aroma of marijuana along with staff that will offer to sell it to you.
* Staff: Overall not friendly and even the staff members who were friendly were inattentive at best. Plan on waiting an extended time for anything you ask for AND plan on them ASKING you for a tip regardless of the quality of service
* Constant infestation of bugs in room
* Rooms not available at time of arrival or for hours after
* TERRIBLE practically absent management
In addition to not recommending this resort I would also consider looking into other travel destinations. We didn't feel safe during the entire trip and couldn't wait to get back on American soil. It was a large group and we all felt the same.

Went to Iberostar Rose Hall Beach from Dec 19-24, 2013. Our party was our family, my husband and I and our four kids-17, 12, 8, and 6. My parents and my mother in law also came as well as my brother in law and sister in law and their 2 kids- 5 and 2 years old. We were 13 in all. Overall we had a lot of fun but if we go back it will be to the Iberostar Suites because the pool got deep gradually (better for our little kids) and the beach was nicer.
I will give you a summary of the good and the not so good of the Iberostar rose hall beach.

GOOD
-its close to the airport (30 minute drive). But the airport lines in Jamaica were LONG so be prepared for that.
-Entertainment staff were great, lots of fun! The kids club staff were especially great and our 6 and 5 year old spend an hour or two there each day.
-chairs by the pool and beach were not to hard to get although they say you are not allowed to save them first thing in the morning, we usually did and had no problem
-washrooms in the rooms are pretty good, I liked the shower a lot as it was easy to help my youngest shower
-the pools were not busy usually but I didn't like that my 6 and 8 year old could not stand in the pool at all because it is 4ft 4 inches deep everywhere except a little small circular area near the back of the pool. So it was too deep for kids and my 6 and 8 year old always needed an adult to carry them around the pool.
-Swim up bar was good and the bartender (esp. Andrew-he's the best) Are always friendly and willing to make whatever you want.
-most of the shows were pretty good but it was very hard to get a drink at the bar during show time. Not enough bartenders or wait staff and as it was very busy.

NOT SO GOOD
-the rooms smell of mold which they try to cover up with a very strong bleach smell. The rooms are also not very big especially if you need to pull out the couch bed.
- We requested one of our rooms to have 2 beds (they are doubles) and did not ever get it we only had a king in each room which is hard when you have 3 people in each room. They say a room can hold 4 people but unless that includes a baby I don't think that is comfortable. THis was a problem for us and eventually had to buy an extra room for a few nights as we were too cramped
-pull out sofa beds (in every KIng room)-are very uncomfortable. Ok for my 6 and 8 year old but not good for my 12 and 17 year old.
-wifi, you have to pay for it and it doesn't work well or everywhere in the hotel.
-I like that the beach was very close -just a few steps down from the pool and it was nice but had lots of leaves on the sand because the trees have not been cleared like the beach at the suites next door. The water was nice and warm by the afternoon.
-Front desk staff were not very helpful and generally just told you to come back tomorrow or speak to guest services
-trying to book for the restaurants was not easy. You usually had to wait in long line ups and you can't book more than 2 days in advance so you have to keep coming back.

The food was pretty good but after a few days you get sick of the same thing over and over again. Last time we went to Jamaica we stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe and the buffet was larger and had more variety.

The weather was beautiful everyday.

HOPE THIS HELPS

Dear Guest,

The management and staff of Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Resort would like to thank you for choosing our hotel for your last vacation. We are grateful to hear that you enjoyed the wonderful services provided by our entertainment team and we will commend Andrew for ensuring you were attended to perfection. We apologize if you were inconvenienced in any way due to your room smell. In these cases we use a dehumidifier to assist, as it is very humid in Jamaica which sometimes causes discomfort. Room assignments are not guaranteed however we always do our utmost to assist with each request and we are truly sorry if your requests were not met. Our staff is regarded very highly for being helpful therefore we are sincerely sorry if you experienced otherwise. In booking reservations on occasions we do have lines however the wait is usually minimal, therefore if your wait was extensive once again our humble apologies are extended.

Iberostar Rose Hall Beach & Spa Resort is committed to offer excellent services and as such we hope your perception was not tarnished. We appreciate your feedback and we will do our utmost to improve in areas where necessary. My wife and I stayed with nine other family members the from Dec 22-27, 2013. We had a really good time, but there were just a few little things that kept if from being great. While checking in, they touted the comp mini-bar in the room, but when we opened it we found that the beer and soda were actually being warmed instead of chilled. They fixed that the next day. The bathroom was really nice except that the low light made it difficult to put in contact lenses and the shower water occasionally went from cold to scalding and back again. Okay, no more complaints.

The beach is great. The trees give you the option of sun or shade. We spent about 6 hours there every day. The food was very good, the buffet being the best. They had broiled lobster on Christmas Eve, but that might not be typical. The steak restaurant was just okay, and the Japanese was Benihana-style and should be avoided unless you like that sort of thing. We didn't try the Cajun place. Avoid the hamburgers. The staff was great, but they seemed to be slightly understaffed on Christmas and Boxing Day. Would I recommend this to others? Yes. Would I return? Probably not.

Dear Guest,

The management and staff of Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Resort would like to thank you for choosing our Hotel. Thanks to you as well for taking the time to share your experience. We are thankful that you enjoyed the beach, the excellent Christmas Eve dinner and the great services provided by our dedicated staff. Our humble apologies are extended if your minibar was not working properly and if the light in the bathroom was not adequate enough. Please be reminded that the minibar is a cooler not a refrigerator, hence it keeps items cool but not ice cold. Thanks for your recommendation and we hope your perception of Iberostar was not tarnished in anyway. We wish you and family happy holidays and all the best for the new year.

My husband and I stayed at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach, along with our 21 yr old son, 19 yr old daughter and 17 yr old niece - Dec 16-23, 2013. We would definitely go back. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The resort was beautiful and the landscape was gorgeous. I know the Iberostar Beach isn't a superior resort with comfy robes, fancy amenities, etc. but we don't go on vacation to sit in our rooms. The employees made the Iberostar Beach a superior resort. The "Star Friends" (Tusziroll, Breezy, Smiley and others) were non stop fun and had such a high amount of energy all day and night long. They called us by name all week, ate with us and made us feel like we were the only people at the resort. The bartenders and wait staff are the best. They always are so happy, courteous and treat you like you have known them for years. The buffet food was good and the exclusive restaurants had excellent food. We can not say enough about the wonderful people in Jamaica. Don't miss Dunes River Falls, zip lining and tubing. So if you like having some serious fun, this is the place for you.

Just got back from the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach. First I wish they had some sort of loyalty program as this is our 4th visit to an Iberostar Resort.

Overall we had a nice time.

we enjoyed the small nature of the resort and had a very good location to the pool area. Rainbow and Tinkerbell from the Kids club were really great with the kids and did a really great job.

The rooms are old and mouldy smelling. My bags still smell. I wanted to change rooms but we were so close to the pool with two little kids that we decided to stay put but the smell is very noticeable.

The food was fine. We have two picky eaters and they were able to find things to eat. The Christmas Eve Buffet was really nice and well done and we enjoyed watching Santa arrive on parasail.

I agree and wish that there was an area that was shallow for the little kids. The kids club pool is in another area and is not much of a pool anyway, in fact that whole area needs an update.

Wifi should be included. Overall the staff was great. One bad apple at the front desk but other than that pretty good.

We had a big party of 13 and they couldn't accomodate us at the specialty restaurants so we stayed and went to the buffet each night.

The transfers to the airport were great.

I highly recommend Club MoBay as we had a four hour delay home.

Next time we will stay at the Suites. I hear things for the kids are better there. I hope they are working on a loyalty program.

Room Tip: get one that doesn't smell like mould.
