My partner and I, along with 23 of our friends and family stayed at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach for our wedding at the end of Feb, what a wonderful vacation! The resort was the perfect size for this sort of thing- large enough to have variety in restaurants to eat and and plenty of activites to do, but small enough to still run into everyone in the group without having to track them down.

The staff were all very plesant, and the place was kept very clean. Tips are not necessary but seem to be very much appreciated, a little tip goes a long way. There is plenty to do around the resort, the Star friends go out of their way to try to get people to participate and everyone in our group had a blast.

The A La Carte restaurants were great, I didn't get a chance to go to the Cajun one, but others in our group enjoyed it. The Japanese is wonderful, teppanyaki style- which is entertaining. I am a vegetarain and there were very good about accomodating me, they made me some tofu with my veggies and rice, and everything was delicious! The steakhouse is nice, this is where we had our wedding dinner. Food is very good and service is top notch. Every time you take a sip of wine or water they are there to refill it! The main buffets were great too. The most delicious fresh made doughnuts every day at breakfast, and also a omelette station and pasta station, freshly made just how you want it! There was a crepe station one evening at dinner, so delicious! I was dissapointed they didn't have it again during our stay.

We didn't take in too much of the evening entertainment, but from what we saw it was pretty average. Some shows better than others of course. The resort offers a free bus into Margeritaville in the evenings, which will also bring you back at the end of the night. We didn't take advantage of this but did check out the disco (located in the Grand 2 doors down), and it was alot of fun, seemed to be pretty busy both nights we were there.

We did many excursions while down there- spent a day in Negril, checked out the world famous Rick's Cafe, went to Ocho Rios- climed the Dunn's River Falls, Ziplined, did the Black River Safari, Lumionous Lagoon, it was wonderful! Most of these tours we did with Ken Gracey of Doctorbird tours, he really made our trip so memorable. His prices are lower than the tours through the resort, and he does many little side trips and shows you lots of Jamaica's little "hidden gems". In addition he takes photos of your tour and burns and disc and delivers it to your hotel at no extra charge. We have hundreds of wonderful candid photos of ourselves and jamaican life thanks to Ken.

There were a few minor problems that occured during our stay- such as our room was not ready at check in... a little dissapointing after a long travel day. However, my husband and I got upgraded to an oceanview room so were happy with it in the end. Also we had asked our wedding coordinator if we could cut off our wristbands for the wedding, she told us no problem. Then when we went to get our new ones the next morning the front desk agent was telling us unless we had our old ones we would be charged $5 for each one. This infuriated me, as I was not told to save my old one, and we spent thousands of dollars at the resort between our wedding package and 10 day trip, not to mention that we brought 23 guests along with us. In the end we dealt with another girl who was much more helpful and didn't have to pay for the replacement wristbands.

As far as the wedding goes, everything was perfect. We used the terrace for the ceremony which was very beautiful and much more private than the beach location. The photos turned out great. The wedding coordinator Latoya, was very good and made sure everything was taken care of as I had requested. The steel pans band provided cheerful island music that really made it feel like a fun event. We seemed to get really good treatment our entire stay at the resort, we felt like celebrities!

Overall I would say this is a great resort, one of my favorite so far. We hope to be back some day to celebrate an anniversary!

We just got back from a week at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach. The resort was average, but you can upgrade to the Suites, which I wish we would have done. The property is a bit nicer, as is the resort. Food is very average resort food and the specialty restaurants are below average, in my opinion. The problem we had was at the dive center to book water recreation. We booked a tour to go snorkeling and then to the luminous lagoon. The center should never have gone out that day for the snorkel part of the trip. There was a rip tide and they still had us in the water. My husband and myself were the oldest people on the boat and have had some experience snorkeling. I felt the current pulling and was swimming back to the boat. My husband had a very difficult time getting to me and them with my help was able to get to the boat. WE WERE THE ONLY ONES TO MAKE IT BACK TO THE BOAT without the boat going out and throwing out life rings. There were three groups spread out and going out to sea! After approximately 1 half hour we all were back on the boat. The captain of the boat was in a panic! He called for assistance and NO ONE came to help. We eventually made it back to the pier after some discussion by the crew as to where to go back to the other side of the reef. There were no buoys to mark where the craft should go through! When we returned we had our choice to either take the taxi or go by boat to the lagoon. We were told that the boat would stay on the inside of the reef, but not so. As we were motoring out beyond the reef the waves and swells were approximately 10 feet high. The captain pushed through with no warning to us. One woman, who also was out with the last group rescued and had never snorkeled before, was not aware of the waves coming and so was not braced and she flew up in the air to land on her tailbone. Screaming in pain we yelled to the captain to stop. They did not go back to shore at this point but laid her down and continued with the trip to the lagoon. We, the customers, had to tell them to at least cusion her ride with the life vests. The lagoon part of the trip was very nice and we did enjoy that! The next day we went to the center to talk to a manager to see about getting a partial refund, since we weren't able to snorkel. He said that the trip went bad because we, the customers, didn't stay with the guides. The people who stayed with the guides are the people that went out to sea! He would not offer us anything but another trip the next day. We were leaving that day. After making a complaint at the hotel guest services they contacted him and he offered us a 1 hour trip that day. Of course we refused as I have no faith in someone who blamed his customers as to why the trip went so bad. I was not willing to gamble my life to recoup $50. The name of the company is Dressel Divers and they have locations in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Mallorca. BEWARE, this is your life!

Just returned from 1 week at the IB Rose Hall Beach in Montego Bay. Overall it is fantastic, good food, clean rooms, service is a little slower than what we have received at other IB hotels (but that may be the Jamaican way). More detail...

Room
Our gardenview room was on the fifth floor on the side of the resort, so we actually still had an ocean view. Room was excellent, king size bed, large bathroom, very clean. Mini bar was re-stocked every other day, left a tip in the fridge and received a couple extra beer and waters. Free in-room safe (which the front desk recommends you use). Clothes rack on the balcony to hang bathing suits to dry. Air conditioning in the room was great. Hair dryer not so good (if you have long hair that takes more than 5 minutes to dry, bring your own!). Daily supply of shampoo, lotion and body wash.

Restaurants
The main buffet was excellent. Omelette station at breakfast, always lots of fresh fruit. Lunch and supper selection was very good, lots of salads, always jerk chicken and/or pork, grilled fish, rice, pasta, etc. Outdoor buffet for lunch was good - salads, jerk chicken/pork, fish, hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta and great nachos. We booked our a la carte restaurants the morning after we arrived and had no problem getting into all three. Japanese restaurant is excellent - great show and food. Steakhouse (outdoor buffet during the day) was also very good. The Cajun restaurant was good, but no better than the buffet.

Activities
Lots of activities around the beach and pool - horseshoes, darts, volleyball, soccer, aerobics, etc. Free use of kayaks and catamarans (one hour limit). Must have sailing experience to take the catamarans out on your own, otherwise they will give you a lesson (for a fee) or take you out (for a smaller fee). The pool is rather chilly (seemed cooler than the ocean some days), but that did not stop lots of people from spending the entire afternoon at the pool bar!

We did not take in the evening shows because the theatre is inside and we prefer to sit outside at night to smoke a cigar and have a few cocktails. However, the hotel was extremely accomodating to all of the Olympic hockey fans and showed the men's final between Canada and US in the theatre - awesome!

Beach
Always lots of chairs available at the beach, with or without shade. The beach is rather short - only the length of the 3 Iberostar hotels. Seaweed does wash ashore, but the staff rake it up once or twice a day. Drink service at the beach can be a little slow or sporadic, so if you don't want to walk to the beach bar, order two at a time (highly recommend the dirty banana daiquiri).

Other
The fitness centre was very good - very modern equipment (2 treadmills, 1 eliptical, a few bikes, numerous strength machines and free weights) and well air-conditioned. There is a cigar lounge where you can purchase cigars (much more expensive than off the resort), games room (pool tables), a few shops (also expensive) and the Jammin Music Bar (more of a Sports Bar) in the evening. Upstairs lobby bar is very relaxing (service is pretty slow) in the evening. There are tables outside the theatre which are great in the evening (with better service).

Other tips - we hired a car and driver (Conrad - hired him at the hotel) to take 6 of us into Negril for the day for US$150 - best way to see outside of the resort. Highly recommend it. We shopped at Jamaican Love Gift Shop in Montego Bay - clothes, cigars, jerk sauce (must buy), coffee, etc. Rum was cheaper at the airport than the shops in MoBay.

Also did the Flight of the White Witch zip line/canopy tour - fantastic. Many people we talked to highly recommend the Dunns River Falls excursion.

Room was great and bed really comfy. Room service was used once and it was great. Housekeeping not so good - never restocked our coffee supplies and had to ask the front desk twice for some toilet paper! Then we ran out of kleenexes and it took 2 days to get those replaced. We even left housekeeping's tip in the coffee tray to get them to restock it - they took the money but never restocked!

The beach was good and plenty of chairs. Lot's of seaweed that should be avoided due to sea urchins which we saw while snorkeling.

The buffet was very good and Andrew and Dean at the lobby bar were fantastic. Drinks are NOT watered down and very good. Not all were happy to serve you though on the beach. The pools looked nice but we are not pool people.

Won't be going back here.We have stayed at other resorts and had WAY better service elsewhere.

PROS: Beach, food, lobby bar, very quiet
CONS: Housekeeping, service, 1 hour time limit on water sports

Just returned from the Rose Hall Beach...I must admit, I was all around nervous going to Jamaica, as I have been to Mexico 4 times, and absolutely love it there. I have found my new love! My wife and I travelled with another couple, and had a blast.

Check in - About a 15-20 minute drive from the airport. A great time to have our first Red Stripe! Check in took no more than 10 minutes, and we were in our room and off to lunch.

Food - The buffet is huge, with great food! Of all the buffets I have been to in Mexico, this one was the best overall for food quality, quanity and a large amount of choices! The dessert portion sometimes lacked, but was still overall decent! There is also a beach buffet about 100 yards down the beach. We only ate their once at lunch, as the buffet near the pool had the same, and more options.
A La Cartes - All of them were great!!! The Japanese was the best...It was great for entertainment, and the food was superb. *Tip* Ask at guest services on a night when you arent booked if they have any openings, and if they do, they will book you in! We got the Japanesed twice, and could have had it a 3rd time if we chose. The steakhouse was great as well, and the Cajun not to bad!

Drinks, Pool, Entertainment - Lots going on...In the mornings, lots of beach activities, and mid afternoon some fun games around the pool! The drinks are as good as you want them to be! Just ask how you like it, and they great bartending staff will take care of you! Keep an eye on them if you dont want a strong drink, because they will give you a lot of booze!!! The entertainment staff was a blast, and if you take the time to get to know them, they will get to know you! The pool is large and spacious, but found it to be a bit chilly...It was nice when the sun was out and scorching hot, but we had a couple overcast days when it would have been nice if the water was a bit warmer!

The rooms were very nice. Our "gardenview" was a great pool/ocean view on the 5th floor. Loved it! The beds were great, and lots of TV channels to choose from while winding down at night or before going out for dinner.

Overall, just the perfect trip for us, and cant wait to return to Jamaica, and all of the great people that live there! They do go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable!

This hotel is very clean and nice and all, but there is absolutely nothing to do.
Pros:
The hotel is very clean.
The pools are nice but pretty cold most of the time.
The Chuca ziplining excursion is a wonderul experience.
Scuba diving is a must for beginners.(Try it out early so you can do it for the rest of the week.)
Bars were OK.
Service was amazing by the pool and in the restaurants.
Rooms are very nice.

Cons:
Beach is very murky and is infested with jellyfish, urchins, and seeweed.
A server at the lobby bar spilled all our drinks and popcorn on all of the things we bought at the shops of rose hall and ran away and never came back to see if we were okay.(She spilled champagne on a 20,000$ watch!)
NOTHING TO DO EXCEPT SWIM IN THE RESORT except at 3 when they do some random games.
Shows at night are NOT kid friendly.
Food is mediocre.

This is a nice hotel and i am willing to come back to relax.(CHECK WEATHER REPORTS,RAINED ALL WEEK AND IN THE ROOM HALF OF THE TIME.)
