Stopping there while visiting Spain we stayed two nights. Quite an imposing building on the main plaza of a small town. Having initially booked a tower room we switched to avoid the three floors of steps. The room was quite spacious but with less view. Very quiet, excellent food for breakfast with a large buffet, or for diner in the tapas bar or in the restaurant. There is a secure parking with direct access by elevators to the various floors. While little known the city is quite interesting to visit. From there we also went to visit Burgos (30 km away by an highway) where the Cathedral is a must see. We also played a round of golf at a 18 Holes course nearby where we got a discount as a guest of the Parador of Lerma. I recommend this Parador.

We stayed for a night prior to catching the ferry at Santander. It's a lovely hotel in an interesting and historic setting. We asked for a tower room on check in so had an extra 32 stairs to climb but had a four aspect room overlooking the square.
There is secure parking available and it's very convenient to the A1 so I'd recommend to others looking for a stop along to Bilbao or Santander.

Room Tip: Overlooking the square gives a pleasant view, but we had an early alarm from the church bells before...

Just stayed for a night en route to Santiago de compostella . Lovely restored old palace , room at the top of the building , it was very hot, some rooms were too hot and it took a while to sort out air con. Good place for a stop over, but little to see apart from a pleasant plaza with few bars etc.

We often stay in this Parador, as it is very well located for reaching the port of Santander. The building is very imposing, located right on the main plaza, the rooms large and comfortable, and the staff always helpful.
The enclosed patio is a hub of local life in the early evening, which we always enjoy. The dining room can be a bit gloomy but this time was busy and the food very good.
There are often good deals to be had at Paradors, particularly if you become am 'amigo', so it can provide excellent value for money..

4th Parador this week, does not disappoint. Our room was upgraded upon arrival to a wonderful room at the top of one of the towers with dual aspect views, 1 over the town square & 1 across the countryside, stunning. Again great staff. My only criticism would be that the enclosed courtyard whilst well furnished proved to be quite hot & stuffy, some extra ventilation would be good.

This is the second time I have visited this Parador, as I was very impressed the first time. A second visit can be disappointing sometimes, but this one just confirmed my first impressions.
The building is charmingly situated at the top of the old Lerma town, and forms one side of a beautiful old plaza, surrounded on the other sides by picturesque buildings housing bars, shops and restaurants. On the approach to the town, the four towers of the Parador can be seen high over the countryside, making it very easy to locate.
The check in area is very modern and cool and the service was impeccable. We were shown to our rooms by a very polite and helpful young receptionist, and found ourselves in a high ceilinged, cool well equipped standard room, with a small balcony overlooking the plaza and the old town. The bathroom was equally nice, large, well stocked with a separate toilet area. The whole area was spotlessly clean and remained so for the duration of our stay.
The public areas of the Parador are beautiful, with quiet corners throughout the building and some very impressive rooms on the first floor. The highlight however, is the large covered quadrangle, with comfortable settees and easy chairs and also tables for use if eating off the bar menu.
Food was of the usual high Parador standard, especially the breakfast bar which had a huge selection of courses and choices ranging from the simple to the complicated. All hot choices were being constantly renewed, resulting in fresh dishes always being available.
We will be back for subsequent visits, I am sure. This is one of the best.

Room Tip: High rooms over the square or the northern side have the best view.

My husband and I had our third visit to this hotel. Started off rocky since our a/c was not working in room. After waiting for engineer, who could not fix it, we were sent to a beautiful suite. The rest of our stay was so enjoyable, and we are looking forward to another opportunity to visit this hotel again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The amazing ducal palace at Lerma, now a Parador, is located in the upper part of the city. The hotel features a central courtyard surrounded by lovely columned galleries. The elegant majesty of this palace from the era of the Hapsburgs and its lovely interiors, with beautifully designed lighting and decor, will make your stay an unforgettable experience. The Plaza Mayor (Main Square) is opposite the main facade of the palace. At night, the lights of the Parador make it look even more magnificent and stately. The medieval quarter, Arch, Carcel Bridge, San Blas Convent, Santo Domingo Monastery, Pasadizo del Duque (Duke's Passage) and former collegiate church of San Pedro are just some of the treasures you won't want to miss. The area around Lerma is well worth a visit. 22 Kilometers away is Covarrubias, a lovely village where San Cosme y San Damian Collegiate Church and Dona Sancha and Dona Urraca squares invite travelers to enjoy a leisurely visit, imagining that time has stood still in the Middle Ages and that little has changed since the year 987, when Count Fernan Gonzalez founded the town. About half an hour away by car is another treasure: the Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos, a Romanesque jewel which has become a place of spiritual and artistic pilgrimage. It is also not far to beautiful Aranda de Duero, city of wine, monuments, history and culinary expertise. ... more   less
