Went there Sunday lunch time, whilst ordering our drinks from a good selection of reasonably priced wines and beers, a lady was having a talk to the staff members at the other side of the bar explaining how to do their jobs properly etc when dealing with customers, a pity she spend so much time doing this and not as much time putting into action. We went to the restaurant, only 2 others in at that time, we had to wait over 10 minutes before someone came to take our order. Ordered the salmon at 12 pounds, although it was lovely it only came with 3 new potatoes, 3 bits of asparagus and some hollandaise sauce, not very good value for money. The puddings were better though, the sticking (something) parkin pudding with ice cream and the ice cream sundae were definately value for money and plentiful.we might go again if passing but would not make a habit of it.

Living north of the river we have been waiting for a good pub in walking distance for quite a while. The Roebuck is unrecognisable from its previous incarnation, The Spite and this can only be a good thing. The interior is light and airy with a large bar area and a good sized reastaurant. The terrace is fantastic and will be a delight when we get some sun.
We ate dinner in the restaurant and we had a rare roast beef sandwich which was just as it said and very filling. I had the mushroom and goats cheese pancake which was delicious and my husband had the meat and potato pie which again was very tasty and very filling.
They have a good selection of wines and beers and all in all we had a very enjoyable evening.

My family and I visited the recently opened Roebuck (formerly The Spite) this week and had the most lovely enjoyable evening. The pub has had a full refurbishment and the interior is smart, well laid out and with a large bar area and restaurant adjacent.
We were warmly greeted by the owner, Chris Payne, for which this is his second establishment in the town, his first being the well known and successful Korks Wine Bar.
There are a good choice of draught lagers and local beers to be sampled, with an equally balanced wine selection. The menu is focused around simple pub food within an affordable budget. We tried the sharing platters of pork and seafood medleys, which were more than adequate for 5 of us. There are a some pub favourites for mains, but particular mention must go to the selection of pies on offer. The Roebuck pie was delicious, and thoroughly recommended. It is simply presented with a jug of gravy on the plate and we shared some side orders of beef fat chips and peas.
The staff are knowledgeable about the menu, friendly and attentive.

Overall, we all had a super evening out.
