If, like me you are very wary of vegetarian food being a bland, tokenistic afterthought on many menus, with the usual, 'nut loaf and veggie tart' offerings, then try the Cheerful Chilli.
We celebrated with our family, a wedding anniversary and birthday, last night and enjoyed the 'banquet' for six (and a half with our 4 year old granddaughter).
We have eaten at the Cheerful Chilli a number of timers before and have always accepted the offer of a 'doggy bag' to finish the delicious food the next day.
Last nights banquet came at a nice pace, with each course as delicious as the previous one and just as I felt that I couldn't eat any more, after a good pause, the sweets arrived. The homemade selection couldn't be ignored and finished off a lovely evening. The old, stone farmhouse setting and the service and staff's relaxed friendliness always makes the experience of eating at the Cheerful Chilli exceptional.
Oh bye the way, I'm not a vegetarian. I enjoy meat and fish and vegetables when they are served up as good as they are here.
Thank you.

This was our third visit to the Cheerful Chilli and the food was as good as ever. Hearty portions and a relaxed atmosphere made for a good evening. I tried some of the ales on the menu this time and they too were very good. Well worth a visit!

We went with friends here for lunch and the setting is really lovely. We sat outside and it felt very relaxed. I was disappointed there was no option of gluten free food, so I initially planned to do without lunch whilst everyone else ordered. However, we then asked if they could make me up a salad so I could eat too. Luckily they could, but it's a shame there is not an option of a salad on the menu.
The cakes looked delicious although we didn't try them.

We dined here for the special one off Indian buffet evening in the new chilli barn. The barn conversion is lovely, no expense spared, lovely bright and airey atmosphere. Our complimentary drinks were served and we sat and waited for our starters, they took some time so we ordered more drinks that were forgotten. When prompted they did arrive but we're not what we asked for. After our starters we waited almost an hour for our next course, in the end we asked the waitress how long it would be and we were served immediately (I think we had been forgotten again) the food was nice, but we all agreed we preferred the traditional cheerful chilli menu. We didn't enjoy the dessert platter, the donuts just tasted of deep fried oil so we left them. We asked for the bill and after a further half hour of waiting a member of staff came back to us and asked how many drinks and what we had drunk all night as none of our drinks had been added to the bill. I understand the new chilli barn is separate from the original building and effectively they are running 2 separate businesses now which is of course going to have teething problems, the waiting staff however didn't really seem interested in their jobs.

Hi there. Thanks for trying out our special evening and glad you liked the food apart from your deserts. It was our first Indian Banquet so the timing will be refined and it's kind of you to say that.

We just want to reassure you that the staff were super enthused about the evening, really buzzing about the good feedback and really looking forward to the next one. So sorry if it didn't appear that way to you but look forward to seeing you again soon we hope.

This is a lovely little place. During the day it is a cafe serving devious mains (aubergine parmagiano was lovely) and the most amazing cakes. Don't delay in getting you home made cake or scone otherwise they will be gone. The prices were really reasonable too. Oh yes it's also vegetarian so don't expect any meat but the menu is varied and caters for all tastes.
