We spent two nights at La Rena Rossa and were very satisfied. The building is newly renovated, the rooms are spacious, very clean and tastefully decorated. There was also some space outside for resting after climbing the Etna, for which Nicolosi is an excellent base. The owner was very helpful and provided good suggestions for eating and organizing various activities. The Italian-style breakfast (pastry & coffee) was good. We were also asked if we would like something more elaborate - hearty eaters might want to indicate this up front.

Located in the nearest village to visit the Etna it is a perfect location to visit it since it is only at 20 minutes drive), when done, it is possible to go to town walking. It is a family management whose family is kind and very helpful (helped us to get the car out of the street whithout any damage, gave us the name of two good and not expensive restaurants...). The room is situated in a house next to the family house, is is spacious, nice and clean. Howerver, sonce there are 2 rooms in the house, when the other one is occupated, the noise made by the other residents can be easily heard.

About five minutes to walk from the centre of the charming village Nicolosi, this b&b is still in a quiet neighbourhood. Our first room floor had a balcony with view over great parts of southern Sicily. A nice, tidy room in a relatively newish building, probably custom built as a guest house. We had access to a kitchen that we did not use (but we used the refrigerator for water).

There was a good, simple breakfast with excellent coffee, served when we wanted it, in the garden or indoors. The young host was most helpful and spoke fluent English.

It was very hot, and we missed air condition. But as Nicolosi is high up in the mountain, the nights were sufficiently cool to sleep comfortably with open windows (there were no mosquitoes).

The bathroom was nice, we got a lot of towels, there was enough hot water.

I still subtract one dot for the missing air condition and the weak wifi, that worked best on the balcony. The tv had about 200 channels, all (with the exception of one French) in Italian. BBC world or CNN or something would have been nice, but maybe it is expensive.

There was a town feast in Nicolosi while we were there, and it was both interesting and moving. All the old folks came out on the pavements and the young danced in the village square. The restaurants were superb and moderately priced.

Room Tip: I guess we had the best room, on the "view side" on the first floor.

If you are looking for a quality stay with reasonable price in Etna area, this place is ideal. We really loved the wall decoration (stencils/paintings by the owner's mother) and the atmosphere as if we were staying in friend's house. The young owner was very caring person and helped us in everything. Our navigator couldn't find the address of B&B but the owner called my cell and sent his brother to pick us up! My husband didn't have proper wear for Etna excursion, so the owner lent him his k-way :) Grazie di tutto e ci rivediamo al presto!!!

We stayed in Nicolosi for two nights, while visiting Etna. The friendly and helpful owners allowed us to combine two rooms with the adjoining kitchen for a self-catering apartment.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable in a quiet neighborhood. Nicolosi is a lovely town and restaurants are within easy walking distance. Recommended.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The B&B has a quiet and sunny position, it is sorrounded by a wide garden and is the ideal way to spend your holiday between mountain and sea. Nicolosi ( the B&B's town) represents in fact a strategic point that enables you to visit all the main East Sicily's wonders: Acitrezza's "Faraglioni", Catania's baroque, Taormina, Noto, Caltagirone, Piazza Armerina, Agrigento... The entire island will be in your hand!It is a beautiful and confortable villa, just built up, furnished in a lovely but at the same time practical way, with attention on details, and materials that are typical of here, such as lavic stone and ghiara ( Rena rossa ), that comes from the burning of melted sediments during volcanic eruptions. The two rooms, wide and homey, are personilized by handmade decora on walls and forniture, decora that we even find in the American kitchen. The owner is a young (but motivated indeed) man, really affectionate to his land. He is available to be your guide and then to share with his hosts the culture of the most important and interesting places you can visit. You will have also the chance to take part in half-day/full-day excursions, with the expert guides of Etna Experiece, who will lead you through the Etna's tracks showing you the volcano's wonders. ... more   less
