“WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT !”
Reviewed 13 August 2012

We decided to go to Etna Hut for 5 days following the great reviews on tripadvisor. Little did we know what to expect ! The past reviews all referred to Etna Hut and the 3 small huts just behind Etna Hut. We decided to go for what was thought to be a great option by renting out the Etna Villa located few metres away. We were welcomed by the owners who seemed very nice and were given the keys to go to the Villa .The villa exterior needed must doing however inside was like going into a 1940's hostel. Old furniture, horrible old fashioned curtains, not to mention the dust everywhere and filty kitchen full of insects plus plus. Thankfully there was a functional fridge and washing machine. The bedrooms and bathrooms were even worse. When one uses the bathrooms you feel that pipe works wanting to explode with the noise. Not once did we use the villa for dining considering the bad state of the kitchen, even the kids told us that everything was so disgusting.
The website said the villa was airconditioned but there are only 2 a/c in the whole house. We were two families and had to move the 5 kid's beds into our main bedrooms to cool off during the night. First night we were told that the hosts will be cooking pizza in their stove oven and so we decided to dine at the hut, foolishly without asking the price per person. Whilst sitting in the terrace the host suddently took off with her car and came back 20 minutes after when we realised that she came back with pizza boxes ( conveniently bought from a bakery shop close by) and presented same to us (half cold and nothing special ) which at the end of our holiday we were charged €120 excluding drinks for 4 adults and 4 kids. We were therefore taken for a ride once again ! The host were so unwelcoming and never even asked us if we needed anything during the 5 days that we did not even bother to dine or use the facilities (always with additonal charge) there again. At the end of the holiday we paid our bill and thankfully left the place! A piece of advise is not to be impressed with the website....look carefully at the photos of the villa before booking ( which conveniently were only loaded on their website the week before we arrived). Despite all this it did not ruin our holiday at all..... !!!

Room Tip: No advise to rent our the Villa.

Dear guest,
we are very disappointed about the above lines you wrote. Something you wrote is right, something not. It is true that the Villa and its furnitures is not new, but everything works without problems and above all is a good cheap solution for holiday of people that don't want spend too much money like you. You were 8 people and you spent 170 € per night, which is a little bit more than 20 euro per person. Same price you pay in a hostel with common bathroom and 6 beds in a room....Villa has got 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, beside a kitchen, a spacious lounge, terrace and a wide garden. And if the furniture's stile is not modern, because it is a mountain house, it doesn't matter if you have to stay just 4 nights and not living there forever.
About pizza we said that we serve pizza on the terrace, cooked in the stone oven. This is absolutely true, we never said that we cook pizza, because we work with a very good bakery for that. The price is 15 € per person and it is a fair price because includes beverage (wine, beer, soft drinks), ice cream, service...and location! You wrote that the beverage was not included and this is not true. Nobody has taken you for a ride, just write correctly please.
We are normally welcoming with people who ask us info or whatever, if you have never come to ask how can we know that you need something? If the Villa guests don't call us, we of course think that everything is going all right for them. We are always available for any need of our guests, in B&B as well as in Villa.
The Villa photos on our web site are correct, nothing is fake. We are honest in managing Etna Hut and especially we are honest with our guests. Villa is the cheapest option we have, but is not the only one: we also offer rooms in B&B all included (swimming pool, tennis court etc.) which cost more than Villa, of course. Anyway thank you to be with us.

This charming and delicate B&B is perfectly located 20 km from the cable-car station, taking you to Etna.
We stayed 2 nights, in one of the three cozy and modern Huts, behind the main house, situated in a beautiful garden. The Huts are quite small, but for us it was no problem. I know that it is very subjectively how to defined a good bed, but the "memory foam like" mattresses on this bed, was very comfortable.
From the large terrace in front of the main house, you got a stunning view to Catania and the coastline 700 meters below. The glass covered breakfast and dining room in the end of the house, offers the same view, plus the view to Mount Etna.
It showed up that it was possible to have a four course dinner with wine for 25 euro, so gladly we decided to try this. The food was excellent, freshly made by local growing's and commodities. The red wine we had was excellent too, produced from grapes, from the fields beside the house. We ate here both evening's, enjoyed atmosphere, the food, plenty of wine and the very short trip back to the Hut :-)
The couple that runs this place is so nice, friendly and service minded. They made us feel at home from the first moment. It was almost sad to leave this little paradise. We will be back another time :-)

Kind Regards
Anders and Kirsten

Located on the slopes of Mt Etna, it's got great views to the sea from the terrace and swimming pool area. Mimmo welcomed us upon arrival and gave us heaps of tips and information about things to do, and going up Mt Etna.
The actual accommodation is in chalets at the back of the main building, so don't have those great views. However there is a nice grassy area in front of the chalets, and the chalets themselves have a little terrace with table and chairs. Every chalet is decorated individually and we stayed in "America". It felt cosy, was functional, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was ok with the usual Italian fair, cereal and yoghurt. It would have been great to have some fruit, I am sure Mimmo and Alissa would have been able to provide it, but our mistake that we didn't ask for it.
We also had a 4 course dinner here which we really enjoyed, all home cooked by the Alessia with local produce/products.
Thanks Mimmo and Alessia for a most pleasant and comfortable stay!

We only booked up here after we had a last minute cancellation as we hadn't seen many reviews of it. We are so glad with the way things worked out, what a find.
The B&B is a little walk (10 - 15mins) uphill from Nicolosi but the situation and the views are definitely worth it. Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful and even drove us to the start of a walk that they recommended on the first day.
The pool is lovey with great views down the mountain. We stayed in a chalet style hut in the back garden which had just the right amount of room and had everything we needed. It felt very nice and private. We ate in the B&B in the evening and were treated to 5 courses of homecooked food in the breakfast/ dining room which has windows on 3 sides looking out to the views. We had a really lovely stay and its a shame it was only for one night.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the chalet huts in the back garden, lovely setting.

A very nice place, clean and with lots of green around. The owners, young and friendly, speak a fluent english. The rooms are very comfortable, rich of details and service is absolutely the height of a five-star hotel, there is also a free tennis court for guests and we play in the sunshine! Breakfast also is great with some typical Sicilian homemade (Alessia is an excellent cook…) cakes. We hope to be back in summertime for a swim in the beautiful pool! Cecilija (Slovenia)
