When we booked this hotel we weren't able to see more pictures of it online, but we booked it because of what we thought is a good price! The hotel seems nice from the outside, but the rooms are OLD & not very clean! We even found a cockroach one night! The bathroom had a very weird design & again wasn't very clean! There was only a fan in the room, which was not enough for hot nights, plus the noise!

The restaurant doesn't have good enough food variety, but the breakfast menu was fine .. The only good thing about the hotel was the free shuttle buses to the skywalk & the KL Sentral ..

Room Tip: The room we booked was not as we expected! Old wooden furniture, & not very clean!

Stayed 2 nights for a meeting. The cool weather was invigorating. Room was clean and comfortable. Lovely view of the golf course from the restaurant.

The resort used to be one of the best in Malaysia but now it seems a little rundown. Rooms are so expensive. One night for a deluxe room would cost you RM300++

I would opt for the hotels on the Genting Peak (Highland or Genting Hotel) if you went to genting for the weather, and fun at the casinos and theme parks

My clients checked in on 21 July, for a Deluxe room, and as per the hotel website, the deluxe rooms are air-conditioned. But, the guests were offered a Non AC room. Bad Service !

My 2nd visit. This time I chose to stay at the Tower block.
Pro: 1) The lift was quite fast. 2) The room has 2 Queen Size beds and was clean. 3)I love to open the balcony door and windows to let in the cooling air into the room.
Overall the room is fairly acceptable.
The buffet breakfast served the same varieties of food throughout our 3 nights stay - kind of boring.

The Sunrise morning walk at the golf course was good and refreshing. Tips: do not expect the service staff to be available at the counter, just called them during office hour 9am - 5pm for the Sunrise booking - is Free.
Actually, we tried to walk the golf course early in the morning by ourselves, but it would be dangerous to walk the golf course after 8.30am as the players begint o swarm in.
It is good to be guided by the Sports Staff.
As for the squash court, we wish that they could at least sweep the floor as it was very dusty.

Shuttle Bus
Mostly on time. But zero communication to the passengers during bad weather. No one, not even the driver informed the passengers that the cable cars were not in operation due to the weather. The driver simply sent us to another place to take a big cable car up to the Genting, but we had no clue on the changes. The tricky part was no cable car services after 7pm (during bad weather) and after 8pm to 10pm there was no direct bus service from Genting Highland to Awana. The next bus was 11pm. After seeking assistance, and we realised that there was a bus from First World to Awana at 9pm - phew! but they told us a wrong bus bay. Good thing that we find something amissed and decided to check further. By the time we found the correct bus bay, the bus was about to leave !!! Tips: ASK the operators (bus drivers, cable car) on the changes.
Free bus transport to the Goh Tong Jaya Town. We enjoyed the Bak Kut Teh (pork rib soup). Go to those restaurants that sell purely that cuisine ONLY. The strawberry farm was just a short walk from the town. We heard that it was a good time investment, but had no time to try it.

Despite the glitches on the transport, we still love to stay at Awana because Genting hotels were so crowded. You will like Awana because of the greenery, birds tweeting, the golf course walk, the sports facilities BUT do not expect service standard from the hotel staff, transport etc. Even the Hotel Recpetionist gave us wrong information on the room views that we would be having :( Each of the staff was just doing their minimum duties and were not interested in any other informations of the hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floor.

Very bad experience while staying in AWANA Genting Highlands.

Very bad shuttle bus service from the genting hub to AWANA. No system. No que. No first come, first board the bus system. My family and I have to wait for HOURS (missed the 0030hr, 0130hr, 0230hr shuttle bus service) as we could not PUSH & SQUEEZE up the bus. There were 3 other families experienced the same situation. No priority given to families with baby, elderly and toodler..

No action by driver. No action from the highland hotel security (the place where we board the bus), even though they are aware that guests from AWANA hotel are turning into animals. We have to take a taxi down to AWANA hotel (tout min amt of RM50 per taxi)after failing to board the shuttle bus.

We stayed at Awana in a 3 bedroom suite June 9-13 2011 with my extended family. The place is VERY dated, run down and old. I'm not sure when was the last time they did anything to upgrade the place. A few points here to help you see what you might be getting into if you choose to stay here:
1. The rooms are very musty and stuffy - airconditioning didn't work well and for people who have got sensitive respiratory systems, you'll be in for sneezing fits. You can literally feel the difference once you leave the suite - you stop sneezing and feel that you can breathe better!
2. The carpets are very worn - torn in many places and primarily why the rooms are musty and dirty.
3. Toilets are very old - as in previous reviews, there're no shower stalls, only tubs. But these tubs are so old and worn. Imagine this - you can see white marks (not sure what they are) against the maroon colour of the tub. I don't think you'll want to take baths in them.
4. Low quality of mattresses and pillows smell musty.
5. Extra bedding - you need to pay RM60 per piece.
6. Arm chairs are dirty - I found old food crumbs in between seat and arm rest.
Not sure the options up in Genting are any better - perhaps with the exception of Maxims (which is currently under renovations and we couldn't stay there).
Though a few reviews said that the service staff were non-responsive, I found that this was one of the two saving graces of this place. When we asked for housekeeping to clean the rooms at a specific time - they turned up at that time - on the minute. Most staff members were polite and helpful for most part. The other thing I was glad for was that they had Wi-Fi access point specific to the room - the signal was strong and broadband was pretty good.
