The climate in Genting Highlands is comparable to Baguio City (Philippines). The view from our room is not that spectacular. The amenities are old and not updated. If you are a golfer and do not mind that you are far from tourist attractions, then i recommend you to stay here. But if you are a first-timer in MAlaysia, i suggest to book a hotel in KL.
We just spent a couple of days at the hotel, and to be honest it's looking old and un-loved. We first visited 10 years ago, and in total have been here about 5 times over the years. But, we hadn't been back since 2007, until this week. It hasn't changed at all, and that is not really a compliment.
We paid for the Club Suite, which is towards the top end of their range. Sadly, it is not an apt name. The rooms smell, the carpet is stained, the furniture is old, and uncomfortable, and the bed gave me the worst back-ache for many years. The aircon is noisy, and not very efficient. Just as well the climate in Genting is cool, because they seem to use that as en excuse not to service the aircon.
Oh, there is one item that is new in the room : the TV. Sadly Genting pays for very few TV channels, so apart from the usual local Malaysian TV free channels, don't expect much from a tiny selection of satellite channels.
Shower, basins and bath are old.
Buffet breakfast is average. Lots of local fare, as you would expect, but nothing inspirational, exciting or dynamic. Just bog standard.
The Good : Easy parking; half way up Genting, so away from the crowds; handy location for the golf course (condition of greens and fairway not very good)
The Bad : old; smells; very average food.
Awana used to be a cheap option, and so you could forgive it's poor condition. That's not the case now... which leaves it as rundown and not particularly cheap.
Location - The Hotel is located close to First World and the Skyway (cable car) and the good thing is that it has scheduled shuttle buses every half an hour to those locations.
For those traveling from Singapore with a coach bus, from the mushroom bus terminal you can get a shuttle to the first world, and then shuttle buses take you anywhere you want.
It's very calm though, couple of restaurants nearby and a mini mart
Rooms - Hotel rooms are big, quite ok but a bit old.Get high floors for nice views. There was a problem that Sat evening the voice of the band was reaching the room... Not all amenities are there,,only the basics in the toilet (no toothrbush, etc .. only shampoo and shower gel)
Staff - Reception very friendly and helpful.
Internet - No Internet. You need to pay 10 RM for an hour and 25 RM for a day and even after that you might face difficulties.
Food - average or less. Very Asian and local and no varieties.
Overall, the location,view and the weather is making it nice, but the hotel is not that good.

But its breakfast not that much ,, also make sure you stay at the tower rooms in high floors
And bring youre snaks
Cause there is no room service

Also have another shuttle bus to the genting mounten

Would love to come back and stay there again and again and again, loved it that much, been in much higher rated hotels but the peace calmness and beauty of Awana was always fresh in my mind, they had buses and cycles inside for inner access which was very comfortable, we went strawberry picking it was very near to the hotel, probably the bus driver can help out with the route, buses from the hotel take you to Genting highlands which was very very comfortable as you don't have to find your own transport system, the place around the hotel is huge and you can spend 1 good day at the hotel itself, they have internet access outside for free which was comfortable to surf more places around the hotel, the swimming pool was amazing the hotel is surrounded by mountains and a lovely golf course, we stayed in the top floor room, the view from the balcony was just mind blowing, i can go on and on about Awana it was that good experience, lunch was pretty expensive but the spread was amazing worth the money, so if your hungry then yes worth it, breakfast was on the house with the stay and was again awesome very wide spread. worth the stay completely
I am a regular traveller and ive stayed in many hotels over the course of my travels. This is the first time in my life that ive reported to the ministry of tourism and tourism authority.
I will start with the reception staff,who are always ready to start a fight with you.
And then with the terrible two bedroom apartment given to me the first night. All the furniture felt like it came from the 70s. Also many insects everywhere,including big ones. Along with smelly carpets.
Then they gave us the rooms we originally booked. They have poor ammenities and no safe box. Which is a concern because they constantly warn of crime. Dont open the windows, ATMs are always flashing warnings.
The major problem was internet because of the nature of my work. They sold us internet access even though there is no wireless available in the building. They then told us to use it in the lobby, which they didnt mention earlier. When we tried to contact the maintainance several times for an hour, we were thrown around between different numbers to no avail. What careless, non-responsive staff.
The food is not varied at all, and bland but it seems like a blessing compared with the rest of the hotel.
Ive never done this before, but I do NOT recommend staying at this hotel if you are middle-eastern (speaking for myself)
