“Great Stay at Margaree Lodge Resort!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2010

I have stayed at the Lodge on 3 different occasions while Werner was operating the resort. He has always been a gracious host and provides his guests with clean, warm rooms for reasonable rates. On years where is kitchen is open, he serves a great variety of local dishes that are very welcome after a long day of fishing on the river. As I recall there are not an abundance places to eat in the local area, so the restaurant was a plus.
We have used Werner's guiding service as well and enjoyed great company and gained the experience and knowledge of local anglers. This is a big plus when trying to catch the elusive salmon.

We chose this accommodation as it was so well located for exploring Cape Breton - we even saw an elk breaking thorough the woods, We found the owner very friendly and helpful, the rooms were well furnished, airy and clean, the kitchenette was excellent as we as a family having come from England appreciated the homely feel and being able to cook our own food when and as we wanted. The internet access was vital for my son. We used the accommodation as a base for exploring the area which we thought absolutely wonderful. We appreciated that the owners had restored the old original farm house from the 1800s. This gave the area a special feel of continuity.

I stayed here in late August/September 2009, and from talking to the owner realized the amount of turmoil that the Lodge has been through. The previous owners ran the place into the ground trying to make a buck, and bankrupted the place, the orginal owner got the place back in very rough shape and has been working very hard ever since early 2009 to try to keep the place afloat. Having said that I would stay here again, and again....it was clean, quiet and comfortable and having a kitchenette I was able to do my own thing at my own schedule. Room service was spot on, the staff and owner very friendly, and since he is on site very quick to solve any problem or answer any questions. I would recommend staying here for any one travelling to Cape Breton and wanting a central place to stay at.

This place is run down, Over priced, and full of Mold. 5 of us set out for our vacation of Cape Breton. Our first stop was Margaree Lodge. After looking at its glory on the internet, We were left with our jaws open. The room Stank as if it were the first time the doors were opened for the season, with no washing of the bedding or room. The bedding Smelled of Mold, it was bad. There were 4 of us in the room, with 3 towels, and 2 wash clothes. The Bathroom had a LARGE amount of Mushrooms growing behind the sink and toilet. Other friends that were staying there had been booked into a room and it was full of mold, the next room they were assigned wasn't as bad. Will not go back again.
These places should make sure there web sites are updated, Margaree is a beautiful area, to bad the Margaree lodge wasn't.

Have no Idea what this person is talking about. For whatever reason she is making up this story. Don't ever received a complaint like that and I am running this business since more than 11 years. Why did she not complain at the time of her stay, if I had such a bad experience I would have left the place. Of course something can happen, because nobody is perfect and I can't control every room myself every day. I have asked my chambermaid and she was not aware of this. Cleanness is my first priority. Talking about overpriced, where can you get a room with all amenities, private bathroom, 2 double beds or 1 queen bed in a motel room, TV, telephone, in room coffee, free WIFI, outdoor swimming pool for $ 59.- + Tax for 2 people, even in high season, you pay maybe the same in a Hostel, or $ 35.- for a tent place. In eleven years of operating this business we have had thousands of satisfied guest staying at our place and many people stayed for one or two weeks, many guests coming back every year.
