We have stayed here a number of times before the last time nearly 8 years ago. Much has changed but much is still the same. We again chose to stay in the main building and the rooms are furnished in the classic style - a sort of faded elegance. The bathrooms and particularly the toilet area does not meet modern expectations and is the same as 8 years ago. The mattress really needs upgrading it is solid to say the least. but the room is airy and had a wonderful view over the grounds at the back. The curtains are a nightmare to close and basically don't well not very well. The moat still lacks water due to a sink hole problem - will it ever be fixed? Walk down the stairs of the Chateau and you can forgive all the short comings of the bedroom - almost. The restaurant has now moved to the Orangerie which is outside the main house and there are some new rooms above the Orangerie. Why wasn't some of the money spent on upgrading the existing bedrooms?
The meal in the Orangerie was truly amazing - a lot better than the food the last time we stayed. It was imaginative and beautifully presented by charming staff. The wine list was as extensive as you would expect.
Breakfast was in the main building and very pleasant.
The location is good, the building is beautiful and we enjoyed the stay - but it was overpriced - by a long way. But you pay for staying in a Chateau. Lovely but not value for money. Maybe we will be back in another eight years - maybe.

A two-night stay in this old, but charming hotel is a perfect location to start exploring the Champagne vineyards, since it's close to Epernay.
The room was spacious and renewed, with all comfort. Breakfast is served with Champagne for those who like to start the day "couleur locale". The restaurant is in the orangerie; the food served is not too sophisticated, which is an advantage!!
A good idea would be to have Champagne tastings in the hotel, to help "foreigners" to find their way in their choice.

Room Tip: Depending if you want to stay in the chateau itself or the orangerie.

Dear TravellingMallet,

Thank you very much for choosing our chateau for your recent visit in Champagne and for taking the time to share your kind comment

I would like to inform you that we serve by the glass, 5 different champagnes, it is not really a "champagne tasting" as you suggest, but we hope that it start to help our guests to find their own champagne choice... you can also ask piece of advice to our wine-waiter Christophe.

We are now looking forward to welcome you again at Le Chateau d'Etoges.

Yours faithfully

We wanted to try out the 'stay at the chateau' - thing. The price was acceptable, so we booked a 2 night stay at Chateau d'Etoges. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The room, inside the main building, was huge. The bathroom was renovated and new. The bed could've done with a new mattress and maybe a proper comforter instead this european "sheet and blanket thing". We enjoyed the nice and tasty breakfast. The hotel staff even managed to book a last minute visit at one of the Champagne houses in Reims for us and gave us proper directions along with a city map for Reims. Overall a good stay.

I'd looked at the Chateau d'Etoges a few times as a possibility for an overnight stop in France, but never been sure, maybe because of some of the negative reviews, but on the basis of one night here in early June we've been missing out as a consequence of my caution. Our room in the Orangerie was good; bright, pleasant and above all quiet (we worried about noise from below but needn't have). Like others, I noticed the aroma from the smokers on the terrace below, but that was a small negative. We both had a very good night's sleep. The meal was excellent. Michelin star quality on the basis of my experiences; imaginatively presented and with good flavours. I enjoyed, in turn, my langoustines, turbot and beef (great oxtail). Not cheap, compared say to eating well in London, but reasonable for these (rather more than once was the case) expensive days in France. A good wine list, with some excellent champagne. Staff were friendly, good humoured, and even funny. The maitre d' left a great impression. Parking is easy. The grounds of the chateau are attractive, with an interesting garden tucked away. We'll be back quite quickly.

Dear Montrachet J ,

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Le Chateau d'Etoges.

We are pleased to know that you were pleased by your orangery bedroom as well as your dinner in our restaurant; and that you are planning to stay again in your new stopover in France.

I shall pass your lovely comments to our staff and especially to Jérome, our "good humoured and funny" maitre d'hotel.

We hope to welcome you again soon in Champagne.

Kind regards,

Eric Himmesoete

We have been to this hotel before and its a lovely experience, good service and English spoken. Ideal for a stopover as not too far from the main motorways or a weekend retreat just to chill out. This time we had a room in the Orangery which was large with a decent bathroom and comfortable king bed which I actually preferred to the very large and older Chateau rooms fine as they are .Plenty of free car parking space close to rooms. The restaurant is exceptional for dinner and a real experience with high quality food, wines and service with a lovely terrace for pre dinner drinks in summer.Breakfast taken in the Chateau is average quality and charged 18 euros extra with champagne included.Breakfast is the only thing I do not like at the hotel as I think a cheaper option should be offered for those not wanting to drink champagne. Overall though Highly Recommended shall definitely visit again

Room Tip: orangery rooms are more modern and close to the restaurant

This Chateau is simply stunning! Staff were welcoming and attentive, and speak English. Our room was beautifully decorated, with a very authentic and decadent French feel, and the bathroom very spacious. The best thing was a having a long hot bath after a day of travel in the summer heat. The large picture windows opened to reveal the maot and gardens, and we could listen to the play of the fountains on water. Very soothing and restful. Well priced, and gives an insite into how the gentry must have lived.Wonderful

Room Tip: We booked an attic room, but were given a slighly larger one on the ground floor - La Chambre Mirabe...

A truly wonderful Chateau, restored at great expense. Well trained and friendly staff, multi-lingual, and happy to help. Bedrooms with high ceilings and "old world" furnishings, quaint but comfortable. Pleasant grounds to explore or relax or laze on a lawn with a glass of Champagne. Within an adjoining stone building the restaurant is situated, again traditional furnishing, attentive table service. The kitchen is serving an interesting menu and the quality and presentation of the food was excellent. Breakfast is served in the main Chateau and ,by French standards, represents good value. Private and secure parking is plentiful and free. Well worth a visit, we will return.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room in the main Chateau.
