Attraction details
Owner description: Less than 200 kilometres south of Paris, nestling between the cities of Tours and Blois, is a haven of poetry. A natural oasis, a headland stretching out 40 metres above the wild Loire, Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, owned by the Centre Region, welcomes the public all year round to its chateau and park and, from April to the end of October, to the unmissable International Garden Festival. Whatever the season, the chateau - once the home of Catherine de Medici, Diane de Poitiers and Princess de Broglie - beckons you indoors to admire its welcoming and lavishly furnished interiors. The International Garden Festival has been providing a unique panorama of landscape design all over the world since 1992. At the same time a source of ideas and a nursery for talent, the Festival gives an extra boost to the art of gardens and gains the interest of both the public and those in the trade by displaying new flower arrangements, new materials, new ideas and new approaches. The diversity and the high quality of the projects have contributed to the Festival's international reputation, which has become an indisputable meeting place for displaying the work of a new generation of landscape gardeners, architects, designers or gardeners.

“One of the best chateau in Loire”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

I have to admit that Chaumont is one of the best chateau in Loire.
The exterior is so amazing and for photo hunting person, this is a heaven.
When I came there in weekend, it was quite crowded so it was quite difficult to find park space for parking.
From entrance to the chateau, it will take some effort since the chateau is quite high.
Once it is close to chateau, the scenery of Loire river and its bridge is quite stunning.
Inside the chateau, it is quite OK and big.
So it will take sometime before finishing the tour.
Outside of the chateau, there is beautiful garden that it is quite worthy to stroll around for a while.

In general, this chateau is obviously worth to be visited.

“Gardens, gardens, gardens”
Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

I visited the castle, the most beautiful there was the view to the river.
But what worth seeing is the garden festival. I ve already visited it twice and it was always wonderfull. Every year there is a special topic and about 20+ different small gardens following the theme.
For every year you can buy a brochure with plans for every garden.

“Garden exhibition”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

This year the gardens were about the 7 sins with a new them each year. It's almost like RHS Chelsea so it's a must for keen gardeners (and for those not so not so keen). The chateau is beautifully located overlooking le Loir. The audio-guide explains everything so well and adds to the enjoyment of the visit. After the visit one can enjoy a drink at the chateau cafe.

“Chaumont International Garden Festival”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

This is NOT a review of the Chateau, but just of the gardens which have the theme of 'Sin' this year. There are 24 gardens which are renewed each year on a different theme and I have to say this year is not the best. There are several very good gardens, but none has the wow factor. Nevertheless this is a good afternoon out and the facilities and other areas within the park, particularly the Prés du Goualoup, are well worth visiting. We didn't do the chateau because we ran out of steam as it was very hot! The views from the gardens across the Loire are stunning.
