This place is really bautiful. Nice little lodges, very clean, good service and delicious meals - really good place to relax. The owners of the ressort, Peter & Bettina are very friendly and helpful. The beach is 10 minute walk away and looks like paradise.
My recommendation: if you go to Watamu dont miss to check in at Tembo Village.

Our family just had a two week visit to Tembo Village and were 100% satisfied with everything! The food was superb, just fantastic, the staff was friendly and kind (imazing with our kids!) and the owners became like friends to us. Tembo village is a real diamond when it comes to small get-a-ways. It's nicely decorated, the rooms are big and the pool area is really cozy and nicely planned. Our kids loved to swim at the pool non-stop, except the times we were snorkling, on the safari or at the beach. The atmosphere was the best of it all; you never wanted to go anywhere else in the evenings. "The safari-bar" was all we needed after a four-course fantastic dinner! We recommend both the hotel and the restaurant with all our hearts. Thank you Bettina, Peter, Dennis and all of you who made our vacation unforgetable! We will be back!

Best wishes, the Berman family

A wonderful small hotel owned by the Ngunje family, a "home away from home". It will fit everyone who are looking for a friendly and more personal atmosphere than traditional hotels can offer. It does´nt matter if you travel alone, with children/teens or as a couple. We stayed for 12 days and had an all inclusive package - it was fantastic value for money. The hotel serves great food and you will allways have someone to chat with at the bar - we met some great people from Kenya, France and the UK.
The owners can help you out with most of your needs - arranging safaris, boat trips/snorkeling, transfers, shoppingtrips - just ask!
When it comes to the beach - you will find the nearest some 15 min walk from the hotel - it´s a nice beach but some might find it a bit stressful the first time cause of all the "beach boys" who wants to sell all kinds of things. But if you dont want to by anything they will find new visitors to try with! There are other nice beaches - a tuk-tuk can take you.

Important to know: this was not the first encounter with Kenya. Big resorts can have their charm, but in the end, when one ventures out, the question to ask is, what is one looking for? To have a little "fake paradise" which reproduces as close as can be the comfort of home? Or to discover the "real" paradise in a new, undiscovered territory? Almost by coincidence, we found the perfect common denominator. The Tembo Village, ran by Bettina and Peter (Bettina being German and Peter being Kenyan) offers the best of both worlds. A wonderfully cosy mini-resort, delightfully shaped and most tastefully decorated makes you feel like being part of the beauty of Kenya. The rooms are spacious and luxurious, the village has all extras you can hope for, the staff is friendly and discrete and you're in the immediate vicinity of all the beauty Watamu has to offer. A major plus is the great restaurant. Especially here (but not only), they distinguish themselves from the "standard" major resorts, where you're offered a very European oriented kitchen. On the contrary. All meals at the Tembo Village are a delight. No "all you can eat but endlessly boring buffets". Home made dishes of an exceptional quality. Some of them really East African, others exotic or fusion. So, in the end, we can only full heartedly, recommend this little gem in Watamu. More, we would like to convey a big THANK YOU to Peter, Bettina, Dennis, Patrick and Tessa for having given us a real warm African home and welcome at the Tembo Village.

The place was recommended to me by a local and it was beyond my expectations. It is a safe, clean, graciously-arranged accommodation for all those who would like to enjoy a comfortable, carefree and relaxing holiday in beautiful Watamu. The owner family is really delicious, kind, helpful and attentive to the guests' needs. I enjoyed their company as well as the pristine swimming-pool, the wonderful garden and the surronding landscape (beach and village are within walking distance - 10 min). Really felt like I was home. Had a wonderful time and I look forward to my next visit there.
