Mida Creek can be visited as part of a sundowner cruise on a Dhow. Alternatively it is just a few minutes’ drive from Watamu.
We took the excellent Dabaso Conservation Group's boardwalk through the mangrove swamp and loved watching the Herons and Pied Kingfishers as we enjoyed the sundowners and fresh crab samosas. Other simple dishes (fresh fish or chicken) are also available at this relaxed and unpretentious setting. This short excursion is a lovely way to end the day / start the evening.
This area is well known for its birding - apparently you can see 7 endemic species nearby - I will definitely be revisiting!

The 30 min. boat ride up Mida Creek was beautiful, but not spectacular. Then you need more time.
We saw 2 of the small crab species that live there, which was fun. But depending of the time of the year you can see many more.
It's an enjoyable boat trip up the stream but don't expect much more than beautiful scenery. :)

This was a trip organised for about 30 people through contacts at Ocean Sports. A brilliant sunset complemented the trip against the back drop of the Mangroves. Good food on board with bar organised by Remy.

Having called and ordered food over the phone we were extremely disappointed to arrive and find nothing prepared. The table cloths were dirty and the kitchen looked chaotic. In the end we gave up on the expected ginger crab and settled for 2 crab samosas each which were fried in a very dodgy tasting oil and cost us 400/-. I would not recommend the crab shack to anyone. Sorry to have to post such a bad review but it was a long way for us to drive for such an awful lunch.
